Ortiz .... 2 blights on his record

Post by Wales »

What are the details of the DQ and the TD on his record. Presume the TD was the fight during whihc he suffered that terrible cut to the forehead, what about the DQ, anyone?

Joe Curley; wrote in the Ventura County Star on June 4, 2005
"Vicious" Victor Ortiz knocked down his opponent, Cory Alarcon, twice in the first round of
their lightweight bout, but the second fall came on a shot after referee ordered the fighters separated.
Alarcon stayed down and was awarded the fight via disqualification because of an illegal punch,
which angered Ortiz's corner.
"The ref never called a break," said Ortiz. "He was tongue-tied. He just tapped me on my arm."
Ortiz, who graduates from Pacifica High in two weeks, added the knockout blow didn't hit Alarcon
squarely.
"And I missed him," said Ortiz, who gestured a glancing blow. "Zoom. That's it. ... In my mind,
there's no doubt I won the fight. He was already weak. He didn't want to fight."
Dunkin said Alarcon's check should be held pending an investigation.
"He didn't want to fight," said Dunkin. "He got a win out of it and shouldn't be paid."
Complaining of blurred vision and neck pain, Alarcon was sent to St. John's Medical Center in Oxnard.
