No. But a piece of him will live in there, as I believe his robe and trunks from the first Castillo fight are on display there.
Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
I think he makes it... but on accomplishment alone, he's on the fringes IMO.
Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
I'd be surprised if he didn't make it at some point down the line. If it were based on only ring success I'd say he probably comes up a bit short but as a complete package I expect Chico to have done more than enough to make it.
Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
Corrales could possibly make it in with his current popularity and sympathy regarding his untimely death, but in all fairness, despite his having better credentials then a few HOF'ers, there are probably 50 fighters out there who haven't made it in, and who are more deserving.

I feel Chico would make it, he was a popular world champion and had plenty battles with big names like Castillo, Frietas, Casamayor, and Mayweather. Probably not a first ballot induction, but I'm sure he will get in there at some point.

I like Chico but its a pretty big longshot
Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
It's the Hall of FAME gentlemen he belongs there big time.
If it was the hall of skill, he would be a fringe candidate for sure. But he was bigger in boxing than just his skills, and of course not particularly in a good way I suppose. IMHO.

When you look at the man behind the ring accomplishments he was not exactly a role model. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he the one who beat his wife beyond recognition? Are we giving him extra points solely for his untimely death? Again correct me if I'm wrong, he got drunk, got on cycle, drove carelessly, died.JCS wrote:I think he makes it... but on accomplishment alone, he's on the fringes IMO.

In Boxing, that's an even more hotly-contested field.BoxBuzz wrote:Hall of Infamy then?

Mostly because he was a two time IBA champ
Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
Had Corrales lived, I wonder if we'd even be having this discussion. At the time of his last fight he was already finished as a serious contender at 29, and his no defense style was being exposed as he moved up in weight and got hit by harder punchers.
Personally, I don't have alot of sympathy for him, but that doesn't mean others won't.

No, Gatti shouldn't either. If entertainment value was viable for HOF entry put in Eddie Lopez.
As to boxbuzz's comment about it being a hall of FAME, even given that criteria, Corrales had a decent hardcore following but really was he that famous? Not really . . .

Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
Well like I say on skill he's fringe, however I know a lot of people who know a lot of details about his most famous fight....no not Corrales or Mayweather........but his bride..or was it g/f? ...... And of course for his Evil Kinevil finish. So for fame I think he's pretty well known. Just not for the right reasons.dempseyfire wrote:No, Gatti shouldn't either. Re: will diego corrales ever make the boxing HOF in new york?
I know what his record is, thanks. And it's not a comparison of the two fighter's skills that I'm making. The point is that if Monzon were a football player, or a baseball player, then he would not be allowed in those respective HOF's. My response was to that point. If Monzon was not kept out for what he did, it shouldn't be a factor for Chico.TerribleTim2 wrote:won 87 (KO 59) + lost 3 (KO 0) + drawn 9

I think it would be a real shame if he made it before Danny Lopez.

Fair enough. Personally I'm in favor of Pete Rose being in the Baseball HoF. That being said I think several ppl were making the point that Corrales was a questionable candidate based on ring accomplishment alone. Monzon's a solid HoF based on ring accomplishments.
