Dear oh dear oh dear!!!
The Sunderland man is letting the fame he is getting in the small town of sunderland go to his head and thinks he is a superstar - in my opinion if he carries on like this he will end up like his football team - sinking fast!!!
I simply cannot understand Jeffries thinking on this one - he is one fight into his professional career and already "it seems" he is demanding this that and the other - yes demand things once you have proved yourself as a professional but to do so after only one fight against a journeyman ?? - for f*ck sake - Gallachers gym is not exactly that big and the excuses given for leaving in my opinion are not adding up with regards to one on one training - because I honestly thought he gave this as one of the biggest reasons for going there in the first place.
When I met Jaffa - I honestly thought he was a nice person and extremely pleasant to talk to - he is however in my opinion setting himself up for an almighty fall!!!

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Maybe it is the opposite of arrogence if he feels he needs the one on one training
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Spud do not make remarks about anything you do not know about, Tony Jeffries is a very level headed person and sometime the trainers are not the right person for that boxer or the trainers want also to be the manager or get to big for there boots, trainer come and go, The boxer is the most important person and has to be look after right. Tony has made a very good desion. Any way Mr Spud i recall you saying when Tony came over to Maloneys we had to be careful of one oerson in that team and it was the trainer. If you need reminded of this just check your post on here Spud and stop trying to get in with everyone. Also before you made statements check your face re what goes on in gyms and how trainers behave as well,Spud wrote:Dear oh dear oh dear!!!

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
I don't see the problem with what he's done. Sure it's not ideal that he's changed trainers so quickly, but he wants more one on one time with the trainer and can't get it. I've always wondered myself how trainers with lot's of fighters manage to divide their time between each fighter fairly. Jeffries is a novice pro, albeit with a very good pedigree and he needs as much coaching as he can get. Joe Gallagher is in high demand and couldn't give it to him, so Jeffries has found someone who maybe can. That's the way i'm reading it.

Maloney TKO > Spud post 7
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
All sounds perfectly reasonable, rational and even amiable to me. Nothing wrong with having a difference of an opinion if it's handled in an adult manner, as it seems to have been done here. Don't see what the big deal is to be honest.
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
better for him to move now early on than to get established, both to get set in their ways and then switch, maybe after a loss and then everyone say he s only changing trainers because he lost.
I dont know jeffries but if he is level headed he'll know himself whats right for him and Gallagher would surely respect the fact that the fighter says this may work for some but not for me and go.
Gallagher is undoubtedly a good trainer and jeffries a great prospect but the blend has to be right between the two.
Lots of great fighters have not had the 'known' great trainers but the dynamics between the two have been right. So my advice to tony is take ur time, meet the trainers and keep winning

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Thank you for the kind advice - the british forum on boxrec has always been a place for people to come on here to express their opinions - I am always going to be here to express mine so please do not tell me what to do!!!FtmPress wrote: Spud do not make remarks about anything you do not know about, Tony Jeffries is a very level headed person and sometime the trainers are not the right person for that boxer or the trainers want also to be the manager or get to big for there boots, trainer come and go, The boxer is the most important person and has to be look after right. Now - using your points given in the post above - the thread where I expressed my concerns was "Jeffries signs with Maloney Promotions" - yep you are completely correct I expressed my concerns about everyone doing what they should be doing and the thread was then used to ridicule me and what I expressed on that particular thread - in addition I was told to mind my own business - now if you use rational thought here surely only after a mere 3 months or so - I have been proved correct in what I stated - just please look at your post above and then look at the "Jeffries signs with Maloney Promotions" and tell me that I have not been proved correct?
ftmpress or whoever you are I simply cannot be wrong on this thread and also wrong on the previous thread where you told me to mind my own business or am I being a tadge too simplistic here?

Hello Mate - how are things? - lets see if we can keep this thread to Jeffries - my comment which you have kindly highlighted was for "ftm press" not an excuse for others to have a pop at me.Deserter wrote:Well... apart from when you 'retire' every few months.... you've made more 'comebacks' than Muhammad Ali!Spud wrote:I am always going to be here to express mine so please do not tell me what to do!!!- Even if on 99.9% of the time I am in the minority I will refuse to be "bullied" to be part of the crowd and go with or agree with what everyone else is stating - I have a spine and even if my opinions are deemed as stupid or whatever - boxrec is a facility I will continue to use to express those opinions.
This thread could actually be a good one - I state that because ftm press on "Jeffries signs with Maloney Promotions" ridiculed me for expressing my opinion and indeed tells me to mind my own business - yet only a couple of months later - he comes onto this thread and his post is if nothing else is ambigious about what has gone on and actually hints that I could have been correct all along.
You and the other members of the forum need to get your "slagging spud" blinkers off and actually read both threads - I will not let this one go as I feel justified in my comments and opinions and my original concerns as I feel I have been proved correct.

Oh, and where have I ever actually slagged you off by the way? to the best of my mind I've gone in to bat for you a couple of times rather than condemned you?
Ah well, all in the game...

i got the impression from one of TJ first statements on going to Gallagers that it wasnt permenant
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Whatever the "ins" and "outs", I think what is certain is that Jeffries' career would benefit from some stability. He initially looked to be turning pro with Dennis Hobson, now he's with Frank Maloney who will keep him busy. He initially chose Joe Gallagher as his trainer, now he's gone to Bobby Rimmer who I'm not overly familiar with. Does anyone know how capable Rimmer is to develop Jeffries? Just because Tony will be getting "quality time" with Rimmer doesn't necessarily mean he'll be learning as he goes along.
Jeffries' decision to part company with Joe Gallagher is a big decision. Joe is arguably Britiain's leading young trainer who is well equally respected by the amateurs and the pros. He has a thriving but manageable stable in John & Joe Murray and Matthew Macklin.
Perhaps Jeffries' bone of contention was that Gallagher elected to go to Vegas to be in Joe Murray's corner on the Hatto-Pacman undercard instead of being in Jeffries' in Sunderland for his 2nd pro bout on the same night. Having trained Joe Murray from being a youngster though and taken him all the way through the amateurs into the pro ranks it's natural that Gallagher's loyalty will slightly be towards Joe instead of Tony Jeffries who has been with him 5 minutes in comparison.

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Cut Jeffires some slack - as someone else stated he never fully commited himself to Gallagher as a trainer, he always said he would wait and see how things went. He has waited and now he wants a change. Simple
As for Gallagher heading up a successful stable including Macklin, lets not forget that the well travelled Brummie British champion has made many changes to his back room team whilst searching for the perfect fit and it certainly hasn't stopped him from achieving his potential.
It is very early on in Jeffries career and if he feels things aren't as he would like he is right to switch them around until he is totally comfortable. Too many fighters wait for a defeat to be the catalyst for change; Jeffries has his whole career in front of him and wants to make the best 'fist' of it that he can.
Its hard to crticise him for that.

Amir Khan and Freddie Roach is a prime example - for all the things that I do not like about Khan the one thing he realises is that he will learn a great deal from the likes of Roach - and when required he will get that one on one coaching that is required for his progression in the professional ranks - in addition Roach has not always been in Khans corner since choosing him as a trainer and Khan accepts that is part of boxing.
In addition Khan also accepts to be with a decent trainer if that trainer is any good other boxers will be training in the same gym and as such he has to accept his turn when wanting one on one quality time with the trainer.
I remain resolute in my thoughts and opinions concerning my perceptions about Jaffa actually thinking he is a "superstar" when in reality he is still a 4/6 round fighter who has yet to prove himself in the professional ranks.
It is my opinion there is actually more to this than meets the eye:
I concede "Jaffa" initially was unfortunate in that his proposed contract with Fight Academy fell through due to a lack of TV - but by then he had already chose Joe Gallagher as his trainer - I also fully understand that "Jaffa" needed to find a promoter so he could earn some money to pay the bills - but in his new search for a promoter surely he would have taken into consideration where his trainers fighters were with in that Murray was with Hennessy - Joe Murray was about to sign for Hatton - and Matthew Macklin was fighting with Brian Peters and on a Hennessy card as well - and as such there would be a clash when Frank Maloney was to put on his shows - and as such this would cause problems in Jaffa's desire and wishes with regards having a one on one trainer.
I simply do not buy into the "one on one" scenario at all - Gallagher whilst a quality trainer hardly has any boxers in his gym and as such the qualtiy training Jaffa wanted was exactly what he was getting!!!

What is the need for the above post ftmpress ??FtmPress wrote:He done a great job with john murrays career lets hope his handles young joe better ?
Yet another ambigious post in my opinion!!!
If Gallagher has done a great job with John Murray what is the need to handle "Young Joe" even better?
My point is you are shouting me down for picking up on things yet it is okay for you to make ambigious statements like the one above?
