Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Has Carl Froch got enough quality to beat the likes of Jermain Taylor. This is a big fight for Carl, being his first defence of the title, in front of an American audience and fighting a named fighter, who has been in with some big names, Spinks, Joppy, Hopkins, Wright, Pavlik etc. Taylor's reputation has suffered since his losses to Pavlik and the points win over Jeff Lacy and because of this, many people think that Taylor has had his best days, is shell shocked after the first defeat to Pavlik and can't return to his pre-Pavlik form. Some people see an easy night's work for Froch, who is himself convinced that Taylor, moving up a weight, will not be able to take his power. I feel that this will be a difficult fight for Froch, who, whilst being a good fighter, is not an "elite" fighter IMO and has fundamental flaws in his style that could be dramatically exposed by a fighter with the calibre and quality of Jermain Taylor.....I think Taylor will win by a TKO
What do you guys think ?

I think Froch will win he has better staminia and a much better chin i think he'll win in by a late KO but he may be down on the cards
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
i am certain Taylor wont stop froch, but i do think he has a slight chance of out boxing him. Carl's left hand is always low, and an athletic fighter like taylor could get on his bike and use the jab. Couple that with fighting in the US, and its not an easy task.
That said I like Carl, and think he will slow taylor down after a few rounds and eventually break him around the 10th. Much stronger and naturally bigger frame, Froch isnt Kassim Ouma or Corey Spinks. Froch will probably surprise taylor and be quicker than he expects.

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
well mate i agree with some of what you say , i too pick taylor to win - why??? , its because he has fought world class fighters , froch hasnt
the only guy who was maybe near world class was pascal , that was a tough fight for froch.
though if froch wins then i think the uk has a top class fighter , taylor is proven world class and as mentioned froch hasnt fought a world class fighter so if he wins its a massive future for carl.
prediction??...the same as the one i choose on the boxrec league - taylor UD

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Taylor's hand speed will allow him to take advantage of the fact Froch is wide open, I think he'll take the decision.
Interesting fight tho, looking forward too it.

Not so fussed about the how/why of it, but i really want Taylor to get sparked out... his yankee fans annoy me, they were so certain he would destroy pavlik, and even after he lost TWICE they still went on about Taylor staggering him as if it counted for fornicate all... I hope Froch retires him.

For me Froch has to stop him to win the fight. I don`t think he has the skills to outpoint Taylor over 12 rounds.
He needs to get on him straight from the off, like he did with Pascal. If he puts him under that sort of pressure early on, I can see him stopping Taylor.

I hear ya, but Froch's not exactly short of annoying fans either.MatthewS wrote:Not so fussed about the how/why of it, but i really want Taylor to get sparked out... his yankee fans annoy me, they were so certain he would destroy pavlik, and even after he lost TWICE they still went on about Taylor staggering him as if it counted for eff all... It's getting to the point where I have to ignore almost all threads about either Froch or Haye because some of their fans are actually making me want them to lose.

Going to have to go with Taylor on this one, Froch's defense is none existent & this is a level above anyone he has faced. If Taylor fights the same fight he did against Pavlik in the rematch he wins this easily.

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Haven't seen the Lacy fight, though I hear Taylor was hurt a couple of times? Because I'd class his chin as good, those bombs Pavlik laid him out with would have put paid to most fighters I think.
I think Taylor wins, mainly because Carl's confidence is such that he doesn't seem to mind getting hit on the chin - like Naz, he's wide open. That'll do it to a certain level, but I think Taylor is a much bigger puncher than he's faced up to now: Pavlik has an excellent chin, and JT almost had him out of there...
Carl's chin & heart will keep him in the fight, but I can see him shipping a bit too much punishment unless he tightens things up ASAP.
It's going to be a great fight whatever. If it was Nottingham, I'd back Froch on points with the crowd roaring him home, but away I think Taylor gets it. Hope I'm wrong though.

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Carl Froch does have a good chin, but has he faced anyone who hits as hard as Kelly Pavlik?
Taylor has a decent chin, alright; and I think he is also probably the hardest hitter Froch has faced. Froch has relied on his chin for far too long, and one of these days, someone's going to smash it, because his defence is woeful.
I think that Taylor can negate Froch's better chin and stamina with a better technique. While Froch's power is good, I don't think it's exceptional at this level, as evidenced by his failure to finish Pascal on the numerous occassions he looked like toppling.
Froch's hope must be that he can set a high tempo, soak up the punishment and come on strong in the later rounds. This is possible, but I see the weight helping Taylor, and I see Taylor being able to keep Carl on the end of a long jab, and heavy right cross for a punishing night.
I'm tempted to say Taylor KO7, but I'll settle for a Taylor UD, with one or two moments for Froch.
One thing: We should admire Froch. I wish more fighters would grow a set and matchmake like him.
If he loses, so what? He's tried to take on the best since he turned pro; and he's willing to travel to the states to take on the best American. Kudos to him. I hope he does it.

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Some fighters always struggle with certain styles, hearns couldn't beat barkley, but is far superior to him in my eyes,so it is possible that pavlik will always beat taylor.I think that taylor will stop froch late in the fight, after a sound beating.
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
I can see two viable outcomes for this fight. Froch slowly softens Taylor up and stops him around the 8th or 9th, or Taylor just boxes rings around him with that jab. I hope Froch has worked on his defence - if not then I worry about him in this fight.
But come on, Frochy.
Froch KO9

Hang on, did i read that Jermain Taylor is going to stop Carl Froch ?
Is this a different Taylor to the one who aint stopped anyone for 4 years... not even a guy that Zab Judah knocked out..at Welter !!?

Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Well, Taylor's had 4 big bouts.
2 which he won which were almost robberies against and old weight drained Hopkins.
Other 2, which he lost to Pavlik.

So your equating Carl Froch with......G0mez wrote:Hang on, did i read that Jermain Taylor is going to stop Carl Froch ?

William Joppy, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Cory Spinks and Kelly Pavlik ?
Because that's who Taylor has fought in those "Barren" four years !!
Froch is'nt on that level, has no defence at all, keeps his left hand low all the time, hence the reasoning, quite realistically, that Taylor could stop him.
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Froch is going to smoke his boots. I can't believe how overrated Taylor is on current scene.

Who has Froch beaten, at world level, to make you so certain of this outcome ?glahn wrote:Froch is going to smoke his boots. I can't believe how overrated Taylor is on current scene.
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
froch will win cos he's much taller and has the longer arms
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
I agree. Taylor has this great resume, but when you watch the fight he isn't particularly impressive.glahn wrote:Froch is going to smoke his boots. I can't believe how overrated Taylor is on current scene.
If Froch breaks Taylor, then that would be an impressive thing to have on the resume.

But who does look impressive against Hopkins ? Or even Wright ? Not many........Autobarn wrote:I agree. Froch has'nt been in with the type of calibre opponents that Taylor has and lacks the experience at world level. Froch struggled to overcome an "over the hill" Robin Reid and the Jean Pascal fight was 50 - 50 at times and whilst they were both decent fighters, they don't compare to anyone on Taylor's resume. Froch's defence is almost non-existent and relies a lot on his power and chin resistance and i think this will prove to be a far tougher challenge for Froch and one in which he may come unstuck.
Re: Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor - Who will win and why ?
Dodson is good domestic level, Magee is good Euro level, so is Tatevosyan, so is Barney in a spoiler kind of way. Froch was coming off an operation in the Reid fight, where his balance looked bad. It was sloppy but fairly easy by the looks of it.
Inkin would have been a good bridge between Euro and world class, but Inkin chickened out. Pascal did nicely, got him the WBC belt, turned out to be a great fight. I don't see THAT much of a gulf in ability between Pascal and Taylor. Taylor is a logical step up. I think Froch is up to the challenge.
Taylor is "just" a guy who was briefly in the p4p top 10, held some belts. I belive those days are over now. Taylor was not going to be doing anything massive at super middle. He was looking at fights with Pascal and - ugh - Allan 'what have I just dropped' Green.

I personally would'nt dismiss Taylor as easily as "just a guy that was briefly in the p4p top ten"Autobarn wrote:Dodson is good domestic level, Magee is good Euro level, so is Tatevosyan, so is Barney in a spoiler kind of way. I agree, in the sense that, i don't think Taylor is at the level he was a few years back and the first Pavlik defeat has perhaps made him a little gun shy and he is less likely to be as successfull at super-middleweight, as he was at middleweight. But Froch has'nt had true world class experince and is still on a big learning curve and with all due respect, i don't think that the likes of Dobson, Reid, Magee etc, can fully prepare him for a fight with a guy who was mixed with top class fighters. Plus, Froch is fighting in America for the first time and is subject to their judges decisions, which will effect Froch to some degree and put more pressure on him to prevent the fight going the distance. I feel Froch will be vunerable because of this and because i feel that he lacks all round quality and is open to a good counter puncher and eventually Froch will pay big time for his sloppy defence.
