Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
One question Spud:
- when did Joe Gallagher go from being one of the biggest pariahs in all of British boxing (in your opionion) to one who is 'worthy' of your praise and defence?
The problem with your 'opinions' and posts is that they are all coloured and loaded towards whoever you are trying to impress or get in with that week.
New comers to British boxing forums probably can't see that but old hands who have trawled through your BS loaded posts year on year are all too well aware of the 'reasons' for your timely questions or stout defence of particular individuals.
*Yawn*

Spud you forget the phone call to frank maloney and steve woods telling them to be careful of this trainer, or have you got selected menory. we could post the call to one of the name people as certain peoples phone calls are recorded to protect us from people who intend to claim that they have inside knowledge, but normally get it wrong. spud you try to cause maloney prom. trouble at a certain ( which you were not at) show and you were proven to be lieing or was you just . telling the gospel according to SPUDSpud wrote:Thank you for the kind advice - the british forum on boxrec has always been a place for people to come on here to express their opinions - I am always going to be here to express mine so please do not tell me what to do!!!FtmPress wrote: Spud do not make remarks about anything you do not know about, Tony Jeffries is a very level headed person and sometime the trainers are not the right person for that boxer or the trainers want also to be the manager or get to big for there boots, trainer come and go, The boxer is the most important person and has to be look after right. Tony has made a very good desion. Any way Mr Spud i recall you saying when Tony came over to Maloneys we had to be careful of one oerson in that team and it was the trainer. If you need reminded of this just check your post on here Spud and stop trying to get in with everyone. Also before you made statements check your face re what goes on in gyms and how trainers behave as well,- Even if on 99.9% of the time I am in the minority I will refuse to be "bullied" to be part of the crowd and go with or agree with what everyone else is stating - I have a spine and even if my opinions are deemed as stupid or whatever - boxrec is a facility I will continue to use to express those opinions.
Now - using your points given in the post above - the thread where I expressed my concerns was "Jeffries signs with Maloney Promotions" - yep you are completely correct I expressed my concerns about everyone doing what they should be doing and the thread was then used to ridicule me and what I expressed on that particular thread - in addition I was told to mind my own business - now if you use rational thought here surely only after a mere 3 months or so - I have been proved correct in what I stated - just please look at your post above and then look at the "Jeffries signs with Maloney Promotions" and tell me that I have not been proved correct?
ftmpress or whoever you are I simply cannot be wrong on this thread and also wrong on the previous thread where you told me to mind my own business or am I being a tadge too simplistic here?

No he try to talk Tony Jeffries out of fighting and go to vegas to watch and support Joe Murray.Ben Carey wrote:Whatever the "ins" and "outs", I think what is certain is that Jeffries' career would benefit from some stability. He initially looked to be turning pro with Dennis Hobson, now he's with Frank Maloney who will keep him busy. He initially chose Joe Gallagher as his trainer, now he's gone to Bobby Rimmer who I'm not overly familiar with. Does anyone know how capable Rimmer is to develop Jeffries? Just because Tony will be getting "quality time" with Rimmer doesn't necessarily mean he'll be learning as he goes along.
Jeffries' decision to part company with Joe Gallagher is a big decision. Joe is arguably Britiain's leading young trainer who is well equally respected by the amateurs and the pros. He has a thriving but manageable stable in John & Joe Murray and Matthew Macklin.
Perhaps Jeffries' bone of contention was that Gallagher elected to go to Vegas to be in Joe Murray's corner on the Hatto-Pacman undercard instead of being in Jeffries' in Sunderland for his 2nd pro bout on the same night. Having trained Joe Murray from being a youngster though and taken him all the way through the amateurs into the pro ranks it's natural that Gallagher's loyalty will slightly be towards Joe instead of Tony Jeffries who has been with him 5 minutes in comparison.
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
What is all this arguing? Everyone knows arguing on the internet is stupid anyways!
For what my humble opinion is worth, I think it's a fair enough decision. It certainly doesn't come across as arrogant, more like sensible in realising that he needs a lot of one-to-one at this early stage of his career to make the transition to pro.
I like the lad he comes across well when you speak to him and good luck to him and good luck to the lads at Gallagher's gym also, as there are some good lads there.

Looks as though Spud is gonna get a beating taking on little Frank again, last time they had a duel Maloney won with ease scoring 2 falls and a submision taking down a boxing website with him.
Some people never learn.

Hi Terry,
How's it going mate? I understand your point about we should respect Jeffries' thinking behind finding the right fit for him. I'm not as convinced by your point about how changing trainers as not hindered Macklin in fulfilling his potential though. It's taken a long time to get his career going.
It could even be argued that under Gallagher he produced the performance of his career that was finally befitting of all this potential we've been hearing about since Macklin turned pro further putting into doubt Jeffries' wisdom in leaving Gallagher's upwardly mobile camp.
As of yet though, other than receiving one-on-one time, no one has put forward any persuasive argument as to why Rimmer's qualities as a trainer are better than Gallagher's. What is Rimmer like? Terry? Anyone from the North West care to comment? I'd be interested to know.
I do agree though that if a fighter isn't settled, for whatever reason, this will eventually impact his performances in the ring. At least Jeffries has made his decision early instead of leaving Gallagher 10 fights in or after a lacklustre performance which is invariably blamed on the trainer.

Well that is pretty shocking news tbh, sounds like 'come over to Vegas for a piss-up with us lot' rather than encouraging him to fight on a really good card in a big event.FtmPress wrote:No he try to talk Tony Jeffries out of fighting and go to vegas to watch and support Joe Murray.Ben Carey wrote:Whatever the "ins" and "outs", I think what is certain is that Jeffries' career would benefit from some stability. If I have been completely wrong in what I have stated as my opinions on this thread and if everything was amicable - what on earth is your reply to Ben Carey all about? - I apologise if I have got that wrong to.FtmPress wrote:No he try to talk Tony Jeffries out of fighting and go to vegas to watch and support Joe Murray.Ben Carey wrote:Whatever the "ins" and "outs", I think what is certain is that Jeffries' career would benefit from some stability. And I also apologise if I have got another point wrong too and that is surely you have to warn people their phone calls are being taped and in addition that clear warning has to be contained within the tape??
Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Spud obviously there is no grey matter between your ears It is obvious that FTM Press are taking the Mick out of how he has handled Murray's career. They turned down the biggest payday of his career against Khan he has still not boxed for a European Title and Joe is the only Olympian to turn pro without any tv coverage and no media interested at all. Only the trade paper and some sites reported on it. That is great career handling. The rumour is he even chose the shorts and entrance music. He is obviously intent on controling every aspect of a fighters life and not getting on with the task he is paid for.Spud wrote:What is the need for the above post ftmpress ??FtmPress wrote:He done a great job with john murrays career lets hope his handles young joe better ?
Yet another ambigious post in my opinion!!!
If Gallagher has done a great job with John Murray what is the need to handle "Young Joe" even better?
My point is you are shouting me down for picking up on things yet it is okay for you to make ambigious statements like the one above?
It was Mickey Duff who said that it was right that trainers had no BBBofC contract with a boxer as they cannot stop meddling and more trainers had ruined good fighters than managers or promoters have.
Before anyone gets carried away with the job Gallagher has done with Macklin, please remember Macklin is a seasoned pro and Ellcock was on is last legs and has always been chinny.

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Tony is his own man, so its up to him. Going by recent results for Murray and Macklin , i would of thought that Jeffries would of liked being part of that gym, but sometimes it takes a while to find the right one.
Quick question for people, when a guy is pro, he obviously signs a contract with a manager and promoter usually, would he have a contract with a trainer?
just wondered

Rimmer is part of the VIP group in a sense, cause aint he the head coach at the proposed VIP Gym ??
VIP co-promote with FM so makes sense he go with them on a business perspective
i dont know anything about rimmer as a trainor, Brian Rose & Jack Arnfield train there dont they ??
Re Gallagher, nver met him but he reminds of a religous cult type person for some reason, i think he should stick to training the lads and leave the policitics to the Management/Promotors or set his own Promo up

Have I missed something? - is Spud a troublemaker
Whats the problem with a guy changing trainer if the chemistry is not right??
Better to do it now than regret that you didn't do it if you know what I mean.
TBF to Jeffreis he comes accross as anything but a prima donna

Wrists - as for being a troublemaker - maybe so in the past - but on this particular story - I can assure you I am "on the money" and have been extremely thoughtful on my approach before even writing a letter on here - it is ftmpress who needs to take a good look at himself - whenever something controversial comes out in my view he can only resort to slagging me off.

Maloney and Spud's little "micro dramas". I think they do this for the benefit of this forum. IMO it is all artificial, made up to make us laugh. It can be humorous reading.

Re: BBN Exclusive - Tony Jeffries splits with trainer
Personally i think that if Joe Murray is boxing on the Hatton vs Pacquiao undercard in Las Vegas, in just his second outing, then that is terrific experience.
The online stream that Hatton promotions did the other week was good too, with G.B.P themselves online watching it.
Just because Joe aint turned pro in a blaze of publicity against some hand-picked BUM from Belarus, does not mean he will not reach his peak as a professional (wherever that may be).
He boxed well against Sid Razak, a tough cookie, in just his first fight.
Anyway, back to the topic !

I like the look of Jeffries, you can't always gauge a boxer on thier debut, its usually a time when they rush the work and look a bit awkward trying to hard.

Spud wrote:Dear oh dear oh dear!!!
The Sunderland man is letting the fame he is getting in the small town of sunderland go to his head and thinks he is a superstar - in my opinion if he carries on like this he will end up like his football team - sinking fast!!!
I simply cannot understand Jeffries thinking on this one - he is one fight into his professional career and already "it seems" he is demanding this that and the other - yes demand things once you have proved yourself as a professional but to do so after only one fight against a journeyman ?? - for f*ck sake - Gallachers gym is not exactly that big and the excuses given for leaving in my opinion are not adding up with regards to one on one training - because I honestly thought he gave this as one of the biggest reasons for going there in the first place.
When I met Jaffa - I honestly thought he was a nice person and extremely pleasant to talk to - he is however in my opinion setting himself up for an almighty fall!!!
This is Tony Jeffries on my dads account .
Spud i can't believe you are saying this !!
you said "i simply can't understand jeffries thinking on this one" so if you dont understand then why don't you ask me rather then saying them nasty things about me,
you really out of order coming on here slagging me off , i have never done or said anything bad to you or anyone you know!!
and
FAME ???? ha what fame ? i'm far from famous i might be well know in sunderland but my god not Famous !!!
orrr ..... but with you saying that you must think i am famous , that explains why every time i have seen you or you have rang me u really trying to lick my bum
infact your more 'famous' than me , i have heard loads of people speak about you and you know what not 1 of them has said anything nice about you!!
i'd like to thank everyone on here who has backed me , as for the move of gyms , me and joe are still friends , and i learned from him , joe has got a brilliant stable probly up there with the best of them in england ,
but i needed more one on one work with me being a novice to the pro game and joe tryed but he has a job and a young family too so was hard for him , and like i said on the interview i wish him and all he's boxers all the succsess in the world

Your reply is nothing that I did not expect.
Read my posts and if you view them as "nasty" then I will admit to one thing and that is I have gone "barking mad" in this politcally correct gone mad world - in addition I dont give a flying f*ck who likes and who hates me - I will continue to say it how it is - if people wish to slag me off then thats up to them - and as far as people not having a good word to say about me - oh dear I will not lose any sleep - "what the eye doesn't see, the heart won't grieve over" - in other words Tony its what people say to my face is what counts!! in all the shows I have been to - the only 2 people who have spoken to me directly about what has been stated on these forums is Arnie Farnell and I now regard him as a pal and also Enzo Maccarinelli - both of whom I shook their hands and they allowed me my say and in addition both of them realised I was entitled to my opinions - boxers and boxing personalities know that these forums are about banter and the majority takes things and criticisms on here accordingly.
So your comment of "everytime I have seen you" - please be accurate Tony - I have seen you face to face once that was at the charity concert in sheffield when Peter Kay and Bryan Adams performed - We had a photo - and in front of your lass we had a conversation concerning who you were going to choose as a trainer - you stated you had already been to a couple of gyms and in fact I think you were going to Olly Harrisons gym the next day - if I remember correctly I highly recommended Olly to you but in my opinion word was already out that you were probably going to choose Joe Gallagher as your trainer and despite my dislike for Joe I was big enough to state to you "you must choose who suits you not what or who other people think".
As far as when I have phoned you and licking your arse - again when I read that comment I actually laughed out loud - if you say the "sunderland & newcastle" banter and me threatening to wear my footie shirt to your first fight in sunderland then fine okay - the very first time I spoke to you on the phone was on the day Dennis signed you at Sunderland and your team hilarously lost 5-0 - I think I took the piss out of you for that and in addition if memory serves me right I think I called you "ugly" and that you would fit in well at Fight Academy as even the promoter is an ugly **** - I then proceeded to have some banter with Dennis and finally wished you all the best - if you view that as arse licking then fine you are entitled to your opinion - In addition the other times I have phoned you which incidentally you were more than happy to give me your number to ask you how you were doing and how training was going is licking your arse again you are entitled to your opinion - you will find in boxing Tony there is going to be a whole lot more people a lot worse than me - you say I was licking your arse - I say I was being pleasant and having some banter with you.
Tony - boxing is full of 2 faced ****s who say one thing to your face - or say what you want to hear and something completely different when your back is turned - so your comment of not one person has a good word to say about me does not phase me one little bit - I havn't done so bad - as a boxing fan I consider myself as the luckiest one alive and what I have been fortunate to get up to in the sport is something no one can take away!!
The worst thing I have said about you is that "Jefferies in my opinion thinks he is a Superstar when in reality he is a 4/6 round fighter who has yet to prove himself in the professional ranks." - if you view that as slagging you off then unfortunately I am concerned about you because there will be a lot of people who will say a lot worse than that as you progress through the professional ranks.
All the best Tony.
