Tyson The Movie
Tyson The Movie
I watched this a couple of nights ago and think it's a great film. I've never had a great deal of sympathy for Tyson but this did make me reconsider my view of him as it does help you to understand the reasons for his behaviour in the past (not that that condones it of course).
Following Tyson was such an integral part of my early love of boxing that I kind of find it sad to see him now. He had so much potential but didn't have the character to prevent his downfall. That isn't meant as a criticism, merely an observation. For somebody relatively young he looks pretty aged I think - particularly around the eyes - and his speech seems a little slurred to me.
Thoroughly recommend the film. And his comments about Don King are frank to say the least...

Re: Tyson The Movie
I liked it too, unfortunately the only people who seemed to care about him died and then the leeches took hold, again like you say it doesn't excuse his despicable actions in and out of the ring but an interesting insight into his life at that time.
Re: Tyson The Movie
Intresting to listen to his him and his interviews when he was with Cus and Rooney, and when he was released immedieatley after Prison. When he became a Muslim.
When he was level-headed, he was so intelligent, humble, well-spoken and a realy decent guy.
It's only after these periods in his life, when societies chaos got it;s clutches on Tyson, Tyson in a weird sort of way imploded, and let everything take advantage of him.

Re: Tyson The Movie
Saw this last week and I thought it was excellent. The death of Cus had a profound effect on him. Up to that point he lived for boxing and had turned his life around. He went off the rails once Cus wasn't there to guide him.
I thoroughly recommend this, there are some frightening insights to his attitude towards women, but also some humorous bits. Keep trying to write about parts of the film but have to stop myself - don't want to ruin it for anyone.
His revelation as to his physical condition leading up to the Berbick fight was a shocker

Re: Tyson The Movie
I haven't seen the film yet but I've heard its plainly obvious by his words about King that he has a lot of anger towards the promoter! King has a lot to answer for imo. I don't care what nobody else says, King & his cronies, John Horne & Rory Holloway, didn't give a fcuk about Tyson. They knew Mike was a cash machine & that's the only reason they got so close to him! King is a c**nt, without a shadow of a doubt!Matt W wrote:I watched this a couple of nights ago and think it's a great film. While I think Mike is smarter than people give the general view, his financial understanding is not good, it can't be! Those three little cronies robbed him blind! The only reason Tyson accepted King's out-of-court settlement was because his financial predicament dictated that he had to! If it would have gone all the way, I reckon King knew he would have been found out & the judge would have ordered King to pay back an obscene amount of money!

Who was the sparring partner that floored Tyson in preperation for the Buster Douglas fight?

Re: Tyson The Movie
It was a great insight I thought, with some pretty revealing stuff.
The gonorrhea during the Berbick fight was a shock; just imagine what he would have done if he was 100%!
The quote about his lung problems may go towards explaining why he appeared to have dodgy stamina.
I thought his quote about staredowns was odd as Tyson was often the one that looked away 1st & sometimes just kept his head down.
I actually also felt sorry for him at one point, which I cannot believe!
I was a bit disappointed to hear him still whingeing about Holyfield headbutting him! He conveniently forgot that HE tried to break Holyfield's arm in the 1st fight; he also forgot that HE initiated some of the headbutting; he also forgot about his previous fights where he followed through with his elbows & when he bit Tyrell Biggs in 1987!
He should just admit that he bit Holyfield's ear because he was terrified of getting whipped again (one could see how terrified he looked in the staredown before fight 2)!

I think you're right.
I think Oliver McCall also decked him in sparring; which fight was that for then or am I mistaken?

Is there any other links to this documentry? the first link has been removed
Re: Tyson The Movie
How does it compare to the endless documentaries already available? That's the only reason i haven't been to watch it yet. But after reading these posts I'm starting to think it might be worth a watch.

Indeed. Holyfield did get away with their bouts, although Tyson has noe excuses for what eh did, Holyfield's constant head butting resulted in head-butting the wrong guy, resulting into big gashes in two consecutive bouts!.

It's amazing how Mike Tyson cannot comprehend the severity of his actions in comparison to some headbutts from Holyfield.
It's also astonishing how he seemed to have forgotten about the headbutts he caused (7th round of fight 1, when he was trying to get out of the fight before he got battered again springs to mind) & all the other indiscretions he'd committed in previous fights (some against Holyfield himself).
It saddened me to hear him so bitter & unapologetic about this episode, especially as I remember him being so gracious in defeat after the 1st Holyfield fight.
Aside from that, it was rivetting viewing.
Mike Tyson was truly awesome in the 1st part of his career & he SHOULD have been the greatest HW that ever lived.
It's just a shame that he did not have the mindset to achieve that.

Re: Tyson The Movie
A Bernard Hopkins mindset in a Tyson body would have been a frightening thing
Re: Tyson The Movie
Tyson admitted he could be an idiot, and did not condone what he did. But in a way he has a point, Holyfield was as guilty as Tyson with his headbutting, and some of the footage showed was just blatant head butting from Holyfield.BO Selecta wrote:I think I have to agree with this.Syntax Error wrote:It was a great insight I thought, with some pretty revealing stuff.

I would say that would have equated to Tyson being the greatest HW ever! B-Hop's mindset, mentality & mantal approach towards things is something to admired!Cannibal wrote:A Bernard Hopkins mindset in a Tyson body would have been a frightening thing
Re: Tyson The Movie
Regarding this footage, they show the seventh round "butt" when Tyson ran in at 1000mph and got butted as if that was proof of Holy butting Tyson. That particular butt has always annoyed me cos Tyson clearly did it on purpose then tried to cry foul to get Holy thrown out of the fight. Watch it again. Tyson is leaning forward so far his upper torso is almost parallel with the floor while Holy is only leaning forward in the normal fighting stance way. I hate that clip as people seem blind and blame Holy for a blatant shi tty move by Mikeobserver1 wrote:Tyson admitted he could be an idiot, and did not condone what he did. As for this DVD, i really enjoyed it. Watching Tyson welling up and unable to talk about Cus was strangely moving. I did feel that they did a pretty good job on the stuff up to the Berbick fight then accelerated through the rest of his career and life too fast and missed some great stories and did not go deep enough to be informative. It all made sense to me because I know the Tyson story ridiculously well, almost like I am his damn stalker, my girlfriend however is new to boxing cos of me and was easily lost and confused as it was not explained well, almost like they presumed the viewer had pre-knowledge.
