Even if someone could hypothetically prove that Liston was stopped legitimately in the rematch, it would only demonstrate that he was old and shot and had lost everything over the course of that year; he looked like he had aged a lot in that one year. But I doubt that was it either, Leotis Martin had to hit him a hell of a lot harder to stop him. I am sure that Liston was not legitimately KO'd in the fight. He either took a dive or just didn't want to be there because of all the assassination rumors. Maybe he did what Walcott (who happened to be the referee, to his misfortune) supposedly did in the Marciano rematch; take the payday and get out of there ASAP with minimal damage.
