Great wins for Gatti and the 38-year-old Jesse James Leija last night. Leija took Panchito Bojado to school and deserves a crack at the remarkable Gatti, who blew out the previously unbeaten Dorin in two rounds and doesn't know the meaning of wear and tear.

Changed the thread title - given the style of the Gatti win, it is likely that both bouts may feature on tonights broadcast.

Completely agree with that statement I'm sure the posters who claimed Leijla wasn't good enough for Hatton are changing their thoughts. I still think he could win a geniune belt at Lightweight, although I think the Light Welter champions may be too strong - although if the Harries vs Hatton fight falls through (I pray not), then I'd give Leijla a geniune chance with him.

What a proffesional he is to still be near the top of the game after this long.

And I thought Dorin actualy stood a good chance, even put a bet on him, then I saw this picture & realised he was facing a light middle!! This is before Gatti bulked up overnight. Jesus....Terrific win for Gatti.

Umm, Kilburn is not the only one who got it right!

I would (and have since the first Micky Ward fight) tipped a healthy Gatti to beat all except for Mayweather and maybe Cotto. That includes Tszyu.

I thought about posting a thread yesterday titled "Gattigate 2?..." after I saw that picture, MW. Since it was the only picture I could find of them side by side I put the difference down to lighting, etc, but apparently that might not have been the case. Interestingly, HBO also, for once, didn't hold their unofficial weigh-in before the fight. Bit fishy.

Great win for McGirt and Gatti, though. And great to see Leija alive and kicking, looking forward to that one tonight at the abomnibale time of 12.15am (?) on BBC2. Congrats to Kilburn and others who predicted Gatti would blast him.

Yeah, 12.15am is a joke. BBC boxing is a joke. BBC sport is a joke. As for the size difference, I saw a pic of the weigh-in on maxboxing.com and thought Gatti looked really drawn.
And Dorin did much of his amateur boxing at light-welter. It's a really good win for "Thunder".

Gatti-Dorin was a dissapointment. I was all hyped up to see the fight of the year, but the body shot was sickening.

I've always said Leija is underated. I mean what has he done since he took 3 rounds against Tszyu? Nothing to suggest he's shot like some claim. The upset didn't surprise me that greatly, never been a fan of Bojado. In flashes he looks very good, in the 2nd round he looked real classy. He was punishing Leija with some lethal counter punches, and the hook that floored Leija was nice. Leija came back well, and Bojado was stunned a couple of times, he wasn't enjoying Leija's body attack either.

glad Gatti did the business last night. I expected him to win on points but not in this manner. Brilliant result and I hope he does get to shut Pretty boys mouth some time soon!!!

Leija = I had written off after the zoo fight. I didn't think his heart would be 110% in fighting guys like Bojado and he was only doing it for the £££. But boy did he prove me wrong

The BBCshould have this starting at no later than 10.30/11pm do they not realise we have to go to work on Mondays??!!

Does this Lejla "revival" actually mean that Camacho Jnr isn't so overated after all, I know it sounded that he quit - but he did have the skills to outbox Leijla (from what I have been told) for as long as it lasted.

Adam, I don't think many questioned Leijla's ability even at this age, just his heart - it looked like he quit vs Tszyu and he didn't put much of a protest vs Ward (who was getting on top, from reports).

This is his first non controversial decent win for a few years.

I think I have the Camacho/Leija fight on tape somewhere from boxing first (ITV 2).........from what I can remember he did look pretty decent until he wimped out with the injury. He could have fought on no problem (but he's never really recovered from the flak he took from fans and writers since then).

Leija after this win does deserve one big last payday and I'm sure Gatti wouldn't mind a tear up with him. I'm looking forward to seeing the body shot tonight

You are right about the doubts about his heart. But people were still picking Bojado to beat him comfortably. Who said Leija was going to break a bone or get a really bad cut? He was never required to show any real hard guts, and i dont know why people thought he would.

This was a big fight for Leija, win and he's in the mix, lose and he's as good as finished. He came to win, and it didn't surprise me that he did.

Bojado was dissapointing though, you'll see how impressive he looked in the 2nd round, but never really repeated that form.

I think that the Lleija revival means that Bojado was not as good as we thought, i suspected another Vargas in the making but Bojdao didn't even make it to the very top before being smacked back down. In the second round i heard that Bojado had Lleija down twice but the second KD was not counted? Apparently it would have effected the scores as well.

Over to the main event well whoever said Gatti would beat Tsyzu is wide of the mark IMO He is a decent boxer and a world class slugger, but i think Tszyu's power would find him out and probably via the cuts route. I think Gatti is slightly overrated, he is exciting and has bags of courage but is more of an entertainment value than a serious threat to any P4P lists. Call me an old cynic but that's how i see it

no it was the 2nd KD that was counted. The first was debatable, i personally think it wasn't a KD. A good punch lands, but it's a while before Leija loses his footing. No doubts about the 2nd KD, a couple of nice left hooks. Bojado looked quality in that round.
