If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
...... and confirms he is fighting JMM next at 140 lbs - what would your views be, given that Hatton has been a champion at 147 lbs, and only a couple of years ago Marquez, who is 37, was fighting 126 lbs.

That Hatton built the latter stages of his career on beating naturally smaller men.stujones wrote:...... and confirms he is fighting JMM next at 140 lbs - what would your views be, given that Hatton has been a champion at 147 lbs, and only a couple of years ago Marquez, who is 37, was fighting 126 lbs.
If Pacquaio wins, it will be because despite the size difference, he was technically too good, too quick, and too accurate a puncher for Hatton.
Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
my thoughts are all the little hatton trolls will come on here slating hatton off for taking on the two best p4p fighters in the world in pac and marquez and try and diminish any achievement.
those are my thoughts.
my other thoughts are how on earth did back to back grand slam potential winners Wales finish 4th in the 6 natiosn two places behind england.
Sorry Stu cheap shot... couldnt resist.

so by the same taken when Hagler at the end of his career beat Duran and Hearns then lost to SRL he also built his latter career in beating on smaller men.
good for the goose is good for the gander.
Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
You could throw Hopkins into that too J, beat Trinidad and DLH(fat welters) beat Winky(fat light middle) ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
If he beats Pacman, and then fights JMM, no one in their right mind should complain... Yes, JMM was 126 not so long back, but he's stopped Casa and Diaz at lightweight, and arguably beaten Pacman twice...
If he beats Pacman, and then fights JMM - he can really claim to be in a fight to see who's best P4P in the world... (as he seems to claim for all his fights these days ;) )
As has been mentioned here before... no-one berates the likes of Hagler, who's best wins came against blown up welters.

If Hatton beats Pac I dont think he would beat JMM I think JMM is better suited to Hatton style than Pac but i still think Pac will beat Hatton
Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
Would you be happy though or critical of the match up? James
J - I know don't talk to me about the Rugby - still think we are on the right curve.... I would like to be positive and say we were 2 yards away from a slam - 1 yard from the French try line and Jones' kick was about a yard short vs Ireland.
Its great though to see all the teams up their game against us. Even though we didn't back to back slam - I still feel we are generally the best side.
With regards to the topic - I am just generating a view, not stating an opinion. I would think this would be an easier fight for Ricky than Pacquiao.

I don't quite get this, James.jamesmcdonnell wrote:That Hatton built the latter stages of his career on beating naturally smaller men.stujones wrote:...... and confirms he is fighting JMM next at 140 lbs - what would your views be, given that Hatton has been a champion at 147 lbs, and only a couple of years ago Marquez, who is 37, was fighting 126 lbs.

Surely Hatton beating Pacquiao and Marquez back to back is him beating the best two fighters in the world, pound for pound, back to back. Not bad. Plus, they're only fighting five pounds below his weight. Hardly feasting on naturally smaller fighters, I would say.
More like the equivalent of Hagler beating Hearns and Leonard back to back.
Sure, they're smaller, but only one division, only five pounds, and they're both such exceptional operators that I think you can forgive that.
Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
They are not career Lightweights though, like the Diaz boys. Marquez seemed very comfortable at 126lbs. For me, Pacquiao is a different scenerio - cause he has actually scored a meaningful and impressive win at 147 lbs. I would love to see Hatton vs Marquez, but would love it more after Marquez has proven himself against someone like Bradley first (and got that 4 weight world champion record he is seeking).
Barrera got condemmed as a "bulked up Feather" and he was actually fighting at 135 before his fight with Khan.

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
Yeah, the Mayweather rematch may be more likely... but if Hatton has beaten Pacman then he's in a better position to call the shots - especially as Mayweather will only be coming for the money. He's likely to be able to have it at 140, and he'll be fighting a Mayweather who's had two years off..... I still think PBF would win, but that's a very different fight to their first one...

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
So how come it's Hatton who gets slated for getting KTFO off PBF? Too many Hatton haters. He's a joke for getting ko'd at welter but also a joke for fighting people coming up to LWW? Can he win?
Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
I don't think anyone should be critical of his performance against Mayweather - he gave it his best shot. I personally am not criticial of his fight with Pacquaio. I would like to see Marquez have one fight at 140 first, just to see what he is like at the weight.sharpei_louis wrote:So how come it's Hatton who gets slated for getting KTFO off PBF? It seems like "name" fighters who go for challengers will always have the criticisms. Like Khan stepping up in weight fighting a live, fresh, credible opponent. Fights a legendary Super Feather and he gets condemmed. If this was Clinton Woods, Junior Witter or Carl Froch fighting such a guy - there wouldn't be a "fault finding mission".

If my auntie had bollocks she'd be my uncle. Hatton isn't going to beat Manny anyway!

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
Who were the top 140lbers since Hatton beat Kostya Tyszu? Mayweather, Cotto, Witter, Bradley. How many did he face? 1 and he lost. Then there's other top contenders like Torres, Harris, Kotelnik and Holt. Urango and Mallignaggi are decent wins but below these at the weight. Now beating great LWs and FWs doesn't make a great reign, your supposed to fight the best at the weight. Hatton is the equivilent of a weight hopper who stays at his own weight.
Beating Pacquaio and Marquez would be mighty impressive but its clearly not part of dominating 140lbs. If he beats bradley and the WBA champ too it will be an impressive 140lb reign, at the moment its a very weak 1. Now there are top prospects like Ortiz, Khan and Petterson, which would make it an excellent reign.
Simply put Hatton hasn't been interested in facing the top 140lbers of his era and I don't see that changing. Pacquaio may or may not be 1 of the best 140lbers at the moment, we can't really tell because Pacman has only had 2fights above 130lbs.

I would say Malingaggi has done equal to Witter.

I hope Rick wins but he'll never beat Mayweather in a 100 goes..Styles make fights and Hatton is all wrong for Mayweather... :(

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
By getting a gift against Ngoudjo (and that 1 should have been 9-3 to the African) and a gift against Ndou back to back? That combined with a sum total of 5 career stoppage wins and a poor defense, frightening stuff.stujones wrote:I would say Malingaggi has done equal to Witter.

Few said that before Hatton battered him from pillar to post.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:By getting a gift against Ngoudjo (and that 1 should have been 9-3 to the African) and a gift against Ndou back to back? That seems like a judgement made with the benefit of hindsight. Mallingaggi, rightly or wrongly was seen as one of the leading lights in the division before he fought Hatton.
I see your point with regard to the other contenders, but beating two of the best pound for pound fighters in the world -- a big if, to be sure -- would be an exceptional achievement.

it doeasnt matter what you say carbo, all these fights were live prior to hatton taking them on and many on here tipped the other man to win.

Re: If Hatton beats Pacquiao......
im arguing everyone is wise after the event and ricky cant win. many of the fights he was too scared to take (zoo) cos he was just apadded record fraud...he then took em on and won. (pbf apart)
then it was someone else then someone else etc etc.
if he took vlad on he would be ducking somone at 140.
