Well, I was impressed.

Post by stujones »

I was impressed with Inchin Chi tonight (today). I thought that Sukayama fella was a very good fighter who I think was alot better than his record suggested. Anyway, even if Sukayama wasn't all that it was still an impressive performance in my eyes.

To come back from being as out as Chi was took heart and tremendous courage, even when fighting in a fog Chi was still putting on the pressure and putting himself at risk of being tagged - that shows tremendous confidence in his ability absorb punsihement.

I was a bit surprised at Nicky Cook's post fight comments, I think Chi is very much up there with the best in the devision, he's beaten Michael Brodie and now shown he can win even when rocked to the soles of his boots (something I have never seen before). I personally haven't got a clue of how you can beat this guy, sure Chi doesn't have the best footwork and that could be exploited but it is hard to conduct a jab and move tactics on Chi because he is so big and has good handspeed. Chi is not half the fighter on the back foot, but who is capable of out strengthen Chi - Harrison? Maybe, but somehow I'm not sure he can.

I would favour the top three in the devision to beat Chi as they can be so adaptive, I would also give Manuel Medina a shout, because his style might be able to frustrate Chi (and he has the chin to stay upright). However, I just don't think stylewise Harrison can beat this guy. When is the last time we have seen Scott Harrison the cute boxer, not since he is champion. Also, I still am not forgetting his performance against Estrada which was the first time since being a world champion that he fought a bigger man than himself. He will be doing that against the much faster, much quicker, much fitter and equally as unorthodox Chi - I can only see one winner.

Would also love to see Sukayama fight the up and coming brit boys Williams or Cook - that guy was very tough who might be too strong for the Brits.

Chi is a walkfoward type fighter, so was McCullough and look what happened to him. It would be an interesting fight, I'd favour Harrison though by UD.

I think Chi's punch resistance might be going. Can't believe Sukayama hits any harder than Morales does he? Eric landed full blast ( as did Brodie ) and he never blinked, but he looked there for the taking at one point - just his huge heart and fitness pulled him through.

And what was that tiny crowd all about? Don't they like boxing in South Korea? You'd have thought a home grown world beater like Chi would pull in more than what looked like a small dinner-show crowd.

They're very polite the Koreans - just because Sky was tuning in, they did the ring introductions in English, even when announcing Chi to his home crowd!

I'm hoping that Chi having to lose two pounds in such a short time before the fight is what affected his performance.Did Chi knock out the other fighter in spectacular fashion, how was the knockdown he suffered, was it from a barrage of punches or a single shot.Any details are appreciated.

I think you hit the nail on the head here, Chi is a good fighter, but he is only fifth best in an excelent division

I agree I think like most people I'd take Chi but I'd still love to see it[/quote]

It was a right uppercut that did the job, but he got up from this and was knocked down again almost immediatly after, then the fight was stopped.

I think Chi went down from a very solid left right if I recall - the right hand landed bang on and Chi dropped to the canvas, he recovered quickly though. Still, he looked in trouble for awhile, very tired and another big shot might've put him in even more trouble. But his fitness brought him the 2nd wind he needed.

I know the Sky team were disgusted that the ref didn't officially count the Chi KD, but to the refs credit it was exactly on the bell, I think Chi actually touched after the bell.

JC, while I think Chi should be ranked 5th, maybe 6th (Marquez, Pacquio, Barrera, Harrison and Medina) I would ultimately think he is in the top 4 fighter. I would favour him against Harrison and Medina but I do think Medina has the style to beat him, but at his age it is a hard ask. Still would write off Derrick Gainer yet though either.

I assume they showed it as they had a TV date to fill from a show that was cancelled. (Calzaghe?)

What about Estrada in the first couple of rounds? Also, Scott is a big, feather whoose strengths are similar to Chi - It would be an absolute cracker but I don't think Scott has faced a fighter bigger than him before (Robinson maybe, but he was shot). Chi has and nearly beat the exceptional Morales.

Taken from a report from Korea.

"Actually my condition was poor today, so I tried to end the fight as early as possible but it didn't work, Chi was quoted as saying by the Yonhap News Agency. "But I felt that Sugama was getting weak too so I held on."

Well I thought it was an entertaining fight last night. As others have said Chi is certainly up there with the best of a very tough division.

Chi Vs Pacman would be a great matchup.

Chi against Scott Harrison is also another facinating match, both big strong Featherweights with good chins who like to come forward. I think this is a 50/50 match, it's a match that Harrison may need to utilise his boxing skills a bit more, something he seems to have neglected since winning the WBO title. In Chi Harrison would be up against someone as big and as strong as himself, it would be very interesting to see how Scott copes with that.

Chi's biorhythm dips in the middle rounds. Brodie had success there and Sugama nearly won it. I believe him that he wasn't in the best of condition for the fight, but I think with his come-forward style and mentality he can be KO'd in the middle rounds (6-8 or so). If you don't get him by 10 though you're fucked, as he will gain his second wind and fight like he did at the start of the fight.

I suspect any weakening of CHI's chin is misguided, the weight issue clearly is proving harder and harder for the guy. But this fight did prove that perhaps there is enough there for Harrison to focus on.

I'd still back CHI to win but he looked a lot less sharp and slightly more vulnerbale than he did v Brodie.

Well I've really been hoping to see Chi v Pac Man but after seeing that I'd have to make Manny a strong favourite. In 23 rounds with Barrera & Marquez he was never really shaken up, while we saw definite cracks in Chi's armour on saturday.

If this toe-to-toe war ever happens then the WBC title looks certain to go to the Philippines.

Could Harrison beat Chi? Not sure. A stoppage win seems unlikely for either, could Scott match Chi's workrate?

I think Barrera, Marquez and Pacquiao would all have a good chance of beating Chi but i am undecided on Harrison. The Scott Harrison that used controlled aggression on McCullough, Santiago, Chacon etc probably would but the one dimensional brawler that turned up to fight Estrada and Abelyan probably would not. As for Medina well i think he could move as much as he liked but as soon as Chi caught up with him he would smash the old man to pieces.

Man!!!! I couldn't believe how he soaked up those shots. The guy's the fornicating Matt Saad Muhammad of his day. He's not going to last long fighting like that, but he's very tough and you're going to have to be a real tough sob to beat him.

Would love to see him in a fight with Manny Paceeeyoooww!! What an X-rated tear-up that would be. :o
