Re: is this the reason amir khan moved to 140???
It's all about the combination of the fighters, the match itself. I'm not saying it IS the best British match out there, but it certainly has the potential to be the biggest. Hatton alone would bring in six figures' worth of PPV regardless of the opponent, and more so when it's against a big name. Khan as you say is not a huge PPV star on his own, but against Hatton you can double or triple whatever he's pulled in so far. Both boxers have enormous and loyal fan bases. Put those together and then add on top a large number of people who wouldn't normally get a Hatton or Khan PPV but would undoubtedly get a Hatton versus Khan PPV. It's all about the star power.[/quote]
Hatton is at the level now where he needs to be matched against Elite level fighters, otherwise, what are they bringing to the party.
Khan is a boxing minnow compared to Hatton, and no way on gods earth would this fight sell anything like the figures you are imagining.
Khan does not have an enormous fanbase. Hatton has tens of thousands of fans who travel to the USA to watch him fight - Khan has people who sit on their arse and watch him fight for free on TV. Big difference.
How many PPV's has Khan sold thus far - I've not seen the figures, but I doubt very much that they are impressive.
Hatton v Pacman will be way bigger than Hatton v Khan, because both men are in the top 5 PFP fighters in the world (arguably).
People want to see Ricky taking on his best available challengers. Pacman is taking a step into the unknown fighting on Hatton's turf, but he is at the end of the day a proven multiple weight world champion with some stunning victories to his name.
Khan is a media star built on the back of an olympic silver medal, who has been chinned in less than a minute, and now gets a title shot off the back of being gifted a decision that should have been a no contest against old man Barrera.
To be of interest to Hatton, Khan would need to be bringing far more money to the table - why would Hatton face Khan, when he could face Marquez in Vegas?

Everything you say is true, but the bits I've put in bold support my argument.Hatton v Pacman will be way bigger than Hatton v Khan, because both men are in the top 5 PFP fighters in the world (arguably).

Hatton and Khan are both household names in the UK. The bloke down the pub is more likely to buy Hatton-Khan on PPV than, say, Hatton-Malignaggi, because he'll have heard of both names.
1. "b]because both men are in the top 5 PFP fighters in the world[/b] " - this does not mean anything to Joe Public. Tha casual fan's 15 quid is worth as much as the BoxRec poster's 15 quid, and while we will support the best quality fights, there's more of them than there are of us, and to them it's the "top 5 most recognisable" that is more alluring than the "top 5 best P4P".
2. "People want to see Ricky taking on his best available challengers" - yes, if those "people" are the likes of us. But again, to the general public, Khan may as well be a "best available challenger", simply because of his name. The tabloids will push the fight like crazy, again because of name value, and this in turn will build the hype yet further.
3. "Khan is a media star" - exactly, and media stars generate more hype, which generates more - you guessed it - money. How else can you explain how putting Michael Carroll in "celebrity boxing" pulls in more viewers than, say, Carl Froch? It certainly wasn't me who watched it, but it was the majority of the office who wouldn't normally give a shit about boxing.

Lol. It's like Prescott never happened with some people, but I guess my judgment is being clouded by my irrational hatred of Amir Khan. What I meant to say was, it'll be a close, hard to call distance fight which Khan can win because of his speed and youth.gobbles wrote:Riddick Blowe wrote:Of course it would be huge in the UK but no way would it be a US ppv, and I hardly think Hatton would get more than he is getting vs Pac. Hatton has all the tools and particularly the style to dispatch of Amir in one or two rounds.
Frank will want to wait until the last possible moment to make this IMO - not because he wants Hatton to have faded (although that would be ideal for him) but because he can milk a few more unsuspecting Brits in yet more carefully chosen ones. He's in for a rude awakening when Kotelnik spoils the party.
Anyway, i don't even see a point where Hatton would even want to take the fight unless he gets silly money. He's after big fights now, and Khan is not a respected or even hugely well known name in the US.
Problem is Riddick, your ridiculous hatred of Khan is clouding your judgement. The last time Hatton stopped an opponent inside two (or 3 for that matter) was 7 years ago. I think most people would believe that Khan was better than Stephen Smith.Hatton has all the tools and particularly the style to dispatch of Amir in one or two rounds

So they've tightened up their ratings, then?
Re: is this the reason amir khan moved to 140???
I don't expect you to say Khan would win, however the way you go on it is as if Prescott was the only thing that ever happened. Should Khan just give up? He's been stopped once and people whacked him hard before and he took it - for instance the Bulgarian (I think) guy he boxed at the Olympics. The punches Prescott landed would have knocked anyone out. He clearly has a problem with his chin, but he also clearly has the problems when boxing to orders to stay out of trouble for a bit.Riddick Blowe wrote:Lol. The punches Prescott landed would have knocked anyone out.
No they wouldn't. Care to explain why Humberto Toledo, a man who had been stopped in 4 of his 5 losses wasn't knocked out by them? Prescott hit him with shots virtually identical to those he landed against Khan all night long and he took them with out many problems, and at no time what so ever was he put on the back foot by a jab. What was so special about those punches? That is just an excuse

Khan just walked into Prescott with no defence at all. Their not "Excuses", bt actual problems Khan has/had.
If you notice whenever Khan has been knocked down, he has always made stupid and amateurish mistakes. I mean flailing away etc.
Re: is this the reason amir khan moved to 140???
Right on, but the point made was the punches wouldve knocked out anybody, and if you have seen other Prescott fights you would know thats not the case. The decent opponents he has faced have taken punches just as hard as Khan did over the duration of ten rounds and were fine. That is more of a chin issue than defensive issue. Toledo had shitty defense too, but he was never close to crumbling.observer1 wrote:He has a point.crusader wrote:The punches Prescott landed would have knocked anyone out.

its another pathetic move by Fwank Warren in attempt to make the world believe Khan is P4P material...He chose what he thinks is the weakest champ with the least punch, and a guy who's been in and beaten other british champions.

Exactly. It's convenient for Khan fans to label Prescott as this murderous puncher, but nothing he has done in his career actually suggests he is. That guy Prescott fought in his fight before Khan was a weak looking guy who was constantly on the back foot under pressure and he was never close to going down, plus Prescott then went the distance with some low-level guy the fight after!Right on, but the point made was the punches wouldve knocked out anybody, and if you have seen other Prescott fights you would know thats not the case. Regards Khan PPV - I read a small piece that stated SKY were still waiting for a return on Khan.
He's never going to be a big enough draw in my opinion, and I don't know how long the deal is for, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him off PVP once that deal expires.
Unless of course he fulfills the hype, which I don't believe he will.
Oh and i'll go one further and state now that any fight with Hatton will not happen while Khan is under the Warren banner - Maybe if he falls under the Hatton banner you might see it.
You read it here first ;)

Well i for one would'nt be suprised , especially if Fwank looks like he's losing control , help make himself one more big payday , Hatton goes out and sparkles him inside 2 rounds, and Hatton then carries on with another mega fight elswhere. Won't harm Hatton at all epecially if Hatton losses to Pacman .

yep true. also thaxton would have been good one to watch as well.

Merely quoting other times he didn't knock boxers out is completely irrelevent, as other boxers would have gone in with a more surviving mentality and not presented the open target Khan did.

KHAN HAS BEEN WOBBLED BY MICHAEL GOMEZ, WILLIE LIMOND AND DESTROYED BY PRESCOTT.
How is this forgotten? For all Khan's celebrity status, Gomez and Limond wobbled him, god a Barrera jab wobbled him. He's got a decent offence, but who has Khan himself blown away at LW?
I've never heard anything so crazy as this Khan-Hatton talk! It's utter nonsense, real schoolboy know nothing idiotic Sun reading Stella quaffing crap.

Re: Re:
Are you kidding? Toledo, who had been stopped on 4 other occasions, was an open target all night and took flush left hook after flush left hook (as opposed to getting badly hurt by the first one that landed), but guess what? He went 10 rounds. And mentioning other boxers fights with Prescott is complelty relevant. It shows that they can take the same punches that Khan couldn't, in great numbers as well.I was talking about the specific punches that Precott landed against a virtually defenceless Khan. Virtually defenseless Khan?
You can ask Richard Abril too and he'll tell you Prescott doesn't hit that hard, he should know. Prescott landed more than one left hook on him and he wasn't knocked out and at no time was he rocked by a jab
I guess those shots by Limond, Drilzane, and Gomez would've knocked down anybody as well lol

Virtually defenseless Khan?Dropping you hand slightly after a punch does not make you virtually defenseless, virtually defenseless would be if his hand were tied behind his back. Again watch Prescotts fight with Toledo and you'll see Toledo did that numerous times and was just as open of a target. But I guess you dont want to bring that fight up because its a testament to Prescotts overrated power and Khans glass chin and it thwarts the "Those punches would've knocked out anybody" arguement

Here we see the problem of this board, the mob mentality. The perceived wisdom is this, so anyone who says anything different must be belittled. And if you can put in a frew more smilies, it adds so much gravitas to those opinions!
First off, Khan clearly does have a suspect chin, I haven't denied that. 2 Against Drilzane, Khan tripped over the bottom rope, so the knockdown there obviously isn't an example of him being chinny.
He was defenceless against Prescott because he was hit by everything Prescott threw.
Toledo has been stopped by who? Humberto Soto and Lamont Peterson - no shame there. Didn't see the fights, don't know what sort or punches he was caught by. I did see the Prescott-Toledo fight and Prescott looked out of sorts and didn't put his punches together well. That's boxing, it feature people, not stats and machines - some times people look like world-beaters, other times they look terrible.
However, as I was sat yards from the punches that Prescott landed on Khan, I know how bloody hard he was hit. He was probably caught a bit cold, but Prescott finished him off in impressive style. And he wound some of those finishing punches from his boots. I didn't see the Abril fight, I don't particularly see it is relevant. But Precott has stopped 18 of his 21 opponents, so I reckon that be some sort of proof that he can punch.

Maybe we should agree to disagree because I have seen Prescott hit other men just as hard as he hit Khan without being able to topple them over. To me this suggests the blows he landed on Amir wouldn't have knocked out every body else.

Re: is this the reason amir khan moved to 140???
If Khan fought Prescott again. The same result would happen. Maybe not as fast as 54 seconds. Khan might be able to get into the second round. As soon as Prescotts first jab landed and Khans legs buckled. I was thinking "fcuking hell". Then 15 seconds later. The fight was pretty much over.
That jab told a bigger story than the actual knock out for me.
Has anyone who's been wobbled by the first jab of a boxing match. Gone on to become a Champion? There are so many belts and loop holes in boxing (which totally degrades the sport). I wouldn't be surprised if Amir Khan did become a world champion. Even though Kotelnik isn't great. I think he'll beat Khan.
