Ricky Hatton
Re: Ricky Hatton
I have never taken to Hatton and the main reason years ago was that I dont like his style of fighting, his holding and hitting and wrestling moves.
Not foul moves but just not clean work.
He mugged Kostya and won alright but it wasnt cosmeticly pleasing.
A lot of Hattons football following fans are there to see a fight dirty or not and they dont care how Hatton wins.
For me he is just a brawler who has done well with the right fighters against him chose wisely.
He may bully Pacman who knows but ive got a distinct feeling that pac is going to be to quick for him and cut him up.
well I hope so anyway

I'd probably liken him more to Dennis Preistley whose a bit better than George.DavidPayne wrote:Perhaps a darts analogy would be good here....he's Bobby George to Mayweather's Phil Taylor.
Not perfect...but.

Re: Ricky Hatton
I love the way all hatton fans are footie tossers who just want to start trouble.
Well ive followed Ricky for years since his first fight on sky, seen him live home and abroad several times, I cant stand football and Ive probaly bveen to more live boxing matches than 50% of this board.
Does that make me a fookin footbal based yob, get over yourselves you pompous arrogant judgemental c*nts.
Hatton class act, great buzzsaw of a fighter up to zoo, then stagnated a bit, but willing to throw his hat in against the best certinaly more so than Calzghe was. Probaly top 5 all time brit if he beats pac.
Given me a great deal of pleasure over the years both in travelling to watch him and on tv.
All the best Ricky undoubtedly a force for good for british boxing.

If he beats Pacman he has a sniff at the top spot for British fighters.
Pacman is comparable, if not better, than any other victory you could mention.

Still cannot see them as wind ups,. I dont put them silly yellow things at the end of a sentence, and just tell it straight, so have to disagree with your opinion. You been winding Spud up and other comments on other subjects.
Re: Ricky Hatton
I would be inclined to agree, still think it takes something very special to edge Jimmy Wilde - but definately would solidy a top #5 and probably close to #2 or maybe #3. My top 5 would be Wilde, Lewis (Ted Kid), Lewis (Lennox), Calzaghe and Hatton - not in that order.DavidPayne wrote:If he beats Pacman he has a sniff at the top spot for British fighters.

So in the modern era - lets go back 40 years that makes Hatton a "special" boxer in your view.stujones wrote:I would be inclined to agree, still think it takes something very special to edge Jimmy Wilde - but definately would solidy a top #5 and probably close to #2 or maybe #3. To have Calzaghe as high - don't want to make this a Calzaghe thread - but the endless years of nothing fights - has he seriously proved his worth as one of Britains finest ever? - don't get me wrong his last few fights proved how good he was in world class terms - but to put him in there as one of the very best ever? Hatton's genuinally taking on the best now and for that he gets credit - how long did that take Calzaghe? -
Re: Ricky Hatton
Name me another aside from Lennox who warrants it.... Naz? possibly but Calzaghe's longevity edges it - who else?
If Hatton has wins over Pacquaio, Tszyu, Castillo, Collazo, and Urango - yes its pretty damn special. So he got a little bit smashed by Mayweather, no more outclassed as Buchannon was against Duran.

Stu - I only got crazy about boxing from the 80's onwards - yeah okay I loved watching Ali and put some of the ITV/BBC fights on but you are the historian mate - to have Calzaghe higher than Hatton is in my view not on - and yes why not Naz.stujones wrote:Name me another aside from Lennox who warrants it.... Clearly Calzaghe deserves to be there - but we are getting desperate in my view when the word "longevity" is used to justify a boxers inclusion!!!
Re: Ricky Hatton
I didn't say he was higher.... I listed a five NOT in order. At the moment the only prime great fighter Hatton has faced he lost. It could be suggested that Joe is 0-0 against prime great fighters, but at the moment Hatton is 0-1.
I'm know Joe fan, and the lack of Svenny on his resume will always haunt him - but to go 12 years as a champion undefeated, unifying the title against some pretty dangerous foes is pretty impressive. Nobody has come close to doing that in the UK.
Ricky beats Pacquiao - in just a 4 year title reign he will surpass Joe.

Re: Ricky Hatton
I rate Hatton a better boxer than calzaghe, personally...
Hatton has had his fair share of Ducking, but he has taken alot more risks than Calzaghe.
He went Prime v Prime against an Elite guy: Mayweather, something Calzaghe never did, he got KTFO, but he is doing it again against Pac.
If it's money their after, fair enough, just don't play the stupid "Legacy"-thing card, it's ridiculous. Because Joe's Resume is a joke.

Re: Ricky Hatton
Yes and No... it is a joke for a man with over 20 title defences you can name over 10 BUMS of the month standard fighters... and another around 5 who were borderline worthy.... However he still had about 6 or so very good names on his resume, very worthy challengers. Most of the other fighters from the UK - not with standing those I have put above him... would have suffered burnout/worn if they would have crammed in 6 or so very worthy fighters and 5 or so pretty good fighters. So even if you say - "sod the records, I'm not counting the underderserving fighters" - how many Brits can you say fought 11 or so worthy challengers and beaten them all.observer1 wrote:I rate Hatton a better boxer than calzaghe, personally...

We've been blessed this passed generation with some true ATG's.... RJJ, Mayweather, DLH, Mosley, Trinidad, Lopez, Pacquiao, MAB, Holyfield, Lennox, Morales etc - who fought the best of the best. Joe will never hit these fighters in ATG rankings for my money - but then, neither will many other brits.

Re: Ricky Hatton
I think he's a good boxer he ruled the LWW division and only losted to PBF theres no disgrace in that
Re: Ricky Hatton
Say what you like about Hattons abilities as a boxer - personally I think he's a world class fighter who will always fall short against the elite(which is more than I used to think when I told everyone who would listen that Hatton would get bombed out in 3 against Tszyu
) - but you can't knock his abilities as a business man, I mean how many fighters in the world could sell out one of the biggest football stadiums in Britain and sell a PPV against a fighter like Juan Lazcano?
The likes of Froch and Witter could learn a lot from Hatton when it comes down to the hype side of boxing, for example Witter-Harris was on Friday Fight Night in Doncaster, now if it was Hatton-Harris it would have been at a major venue on a saturday night, hyped to death by Sky Sports and on PPV.

If Hatton gets beat by Manny (which I think he will). Hattons record will be pretty average.

He did not rule it.
He beat KT and after that he sat on this RING title and never fought the Cotto's - Holts - Witters - Corley' (when he was good) Mayweather - Mitchell ( remember how he ducked Mitchell when his latest superfeather pulled out and he chose Mike Stewart over Michell when MITCHELL was on the underca and beging for the fight?).
He fought Maussa and Urango - Lazcano.
How can you rule if the only guy you fought ws an older inactive KT?
Hatton is Britains answer to DLH in terms or return on their talent - but DLH as a fighter was better.
Hatton is a very good fighter but not elite...never elite.
Re: Ricky Hatton
What Undercard was this DG - re Mitchell..... Mitchell fought Stewart on a Hatton undercard.
