I have no problems with a couple of veterans having fun doing an exhibition.
They both have kept themselves in decent nick and are generating interest and enthusiasm for the sports in what looked like a cracking night

It wasn't an exhibition, it was a full-contact match, albeit unlicensed. Therefore it's just as dangerous - if not more so - than a BBBC-affiliated one.

Rafferty had his license pulled for medical reasons some years ago, and Witherspoon was refused one a year or two ago. I trust the BBBC's judgement and allowing them to fight - especially at this age - is irresponsible.

And quite apart from the danger, it is sad to see Witherspoon reduced to this. One of the better heavyweights of the 80s - a two-time champion, no less - who's been in with some of the biggest names in the most famous arenas, losing to a 41-year-old journeyman in front of 300 people in Wolverhampton. :(

Witherspoon was always garbage. All those pre-Tyson heavies were garbage.

What about the Larry Holmes fight? Okay Witherspoon was inconsistent and often out of shape but on his day he was a great fighter

I believe Ali, Louis, Marciano, Dempsey, Frazier, Liston, were all pre-Tyson.

IMO a fit witherspoon would give Tyson fits had everything you'd want to fight Tyson, reach and jab, punch, chin, skills, heart. just IMO of course

I don't think was a case of Witherspoon being past it, than Rafferty being too good for him on the night. Tim will learn from this defeat and come back stronger. He was just beaten by a quality fighter.

All said and done, it's great to see big Nige back in the ring. Perhaps an assault on the Midlands area title could be in on the cards? With a bit of quality sparring and good management, who knows? :TU:

'Big Nige' (or to be more accurate 'Fat Nige') cannot get his his BBBC license as it was revoked on medical grounds'

They are taking the piss mate :KO:

Besides Big nige has already been midlands champ so i expect hed be looking for a bigger title on the back of a win over a two time heavyweight champion.
