Re: Mickey Vann enjoying life away from the ring
Seems like a nice guy. I'm glad to see he's got lots outside of boxing.
Re: Mickey Vann enjoying life away from the ring
Top ref, good luck with everything you are doing Mickey
Re: Mickey Vann enjoying life away from the ring
I was in Liverpool a couple of weeks after Micky had thrown the towel out in the Earl-Katsidis fight. Micky was Lord of the Manor in Liverpool that night.
Every fan in the place was paying him due respect.

He is refereeing in Ireland now. He reffed the Hyland v Fagan fight

Yeah and doing a damn good job as well, They shouldn't have forced him to retire in the UK, his twinkle toes are still as majestic as ever.rf wrote:Mickey is refereeing in Ireland now. He reffed the Hyland v Fagan fight

For sure, if Earl had won that it would have been an amazing story. However, Earl didn't win the bout, and indeed hasn't been the same since.Dioufy wrote:I love Mickey - him throwing the towel out in the Earl fight was amazing.
In retrospect, what was gained by allowing him to fight on?

Great ref is he not still refing in Germany
I dont see why they have a retirment age on refs if they feel fit they should be allowed to carry on he is a great ref

perfect piece of refereeing. :)lefthook82 wrote:I'll never forget the 2nd round of Hatton v Magee.....
vann only got involved cos he thought hatton's head was gonna get trapped between the ropes.
it was an innocent mistake from mickey.
Re: Mickey Vann enjoying life away from the ring
No one has a crystal ball. For me, Vann didn't stop it because he thought Earl wasn't done. And that was justified about 10 seconds later.whicker wrote:For sure, if Earl had won that it would have been an amazing story. Wasn't Katsidis on proper Enzo Macc legs?
Re: Mickey Vann enjoying life away from the ring
Yeah but he gave Katsidis an 8 count without him actually touching down, had he not done Earl could have stopped him and made the decision of throwing the towel back out even more amazingDioufy wrote:No one has a crystal ball. No where near Enzo-like legs. A mini wobble that's all it was.
Vann was fitness conditioner at Leeds Rhinos ..don't know if he's still involved.
