To be fair , its the press that asks Froch these questions constantly which he answers.
Agree its old news now , looking forward to the Taylor fight.

there are some who believe that cal will return, i think he will stay retired, but if froch were to win against taylor would cal be able to resist

Joe should tell him...after the referee counts Froch out.
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
well froch does like to drag it on though. look forward to the fight.
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
Froch with Calzaghe and Witter with Hatton
How well would Froch and Witter be without using the Calzaghe and Hatton names

Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
I disagree Tony. Obviously we all have select memories and our own opinions on this. But when Froch was calling Joe out 4 years ago, he was still wrapped in cotton wool, taking rematches with guys he beat inside a round and fighting nobodies. Wheras Hatton was a golden goose by 2005.
I think back then the fight could have come too soon for Froch, who was still green. But who'd win aside (different topic), the fact is, Calzaghe was going nowhere fast.
You could definitely make a case for witter living off Hatton's name as he struggles to draw flies unfortunately and has little support on the forums either - wheras Ricky has fought the No3 and the No1 pound for pound fighters in Kostya and Mayweather and is set to take on Pacquiao.
Who's Joe fought? a broken hand Kessler and he nearly got scalped by Hopkins. We all saw what Roy Jones had left.
If it wasn't for Hatton losing to Mayweather, thus a load of his fairweather-fans falling off the bandwagon, then climbing onto the Calzaghe bangwagon, he'd not be held in such high regard.
Its not much of a secret to see that Calzaghe was in Vegas during the Mayweather fight for his own reasons - and standing on stage with Hatton at the weigh-in did him no harm did it? a sceptic could actually see that a Hatton-loss would elevate Joe's standing in the British fight game would you not agree? afterall we all place such emphasis on being 'unbeaten' - well the armchair fan does.
I found his presence there a bit in bad taste, given the whinging he has done about Hatton beating Tszyu and leaving Warren. He poured scorn on Hatton in a BBC interview. Yet rode his coat tails.
Another factor is, Froch was calling out a fight with Joe when he was the British & Commonwealth champion - back when Calzaghe was fighting Evans Ashira (before all his 'names' at the end of his career).
He wanted to expose Joe for the Wazza-backed cherry-picker he was. As it is, he managed to salvage his reputation by beating Lacy in style. That performance over a (what everyone completely agrees now) mediocre fighter gave Calzaghe a huge boost both personally and professionally and inspired him to take on bigger fights.
If Hatton had not trail blazed his way from Wazza and gone over to the States to fight all round Vegas, then i dont think Joe would have either.
The fact which everyone overlooks is that, who'd Calzaghe be without Hatton's name and profile ?
That my friends is the true question here.

I don't think Joe will come back to fight Froch, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him fight Taylor should he win, that would really piss Froch off!metropol wrote:there are some who believe that cal will return, i think he will stay retired, but if froch were to win against taylor would cal be able to resist

Why wouldnt he fight froch if he were to win but would fight taylor. Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
I just think Joe is that type of person, he would see Taylor as potentially a fight he could win handily, bank some money and be spiteful to Froch in the process. Then he could say 'told you so' about Froch.metropol wrote:Why wouldnt he fight froch if he were to win but would fight taylor. Just a thought that's all!
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
Well said Gomez, totally agree with you.
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
Joe retired in the final round of his cash out with Jones. I doubt he'll be back.
Jones hit him with a hard body shot and Joe ran for the last minute.
Home free, man-ney, tee hee, look at me.
Who'd want to watch any of that shite ever again?

The Hatton v mayweather fight was a big big event for British boxing .. and Calzaghe wasn`t the only guy out there was he.
Calzaghe had already beaten Lacy and kessler by the time he went over to watch the Hatton v mayweather fight .. he had his eyes very firmly on one of the fights promoters .. Hopkins
Who to really say it wasn`t a joint agreement between both of them to use such publicity to help a proposed match-up between them?
But Froch calling out calzaghe more or less since he turned pro is little more than Audley Harrison`s claim he`d beat the existing world champs within 3yrs and Khan claiming to be good enough to beat mayweather over 4rnds soon after turning pro.
Froch though, like Witter would be considerably less well known if he did not make these claims and desperatly clings to Calzaghes name .. he may already be a WBC world title holder .. but in these days that doesn`t mean a great deal .. Glenn Catley wore the same green belt for some time yet he too struggled for recognition from it :(

The thing is, Froch backed Calzaghe into a corner by getting himself right up there and ranked as the #1 WBC mandatory challenger.
Calzaghe showed his colours by vacating the title the following DAY ! despite having discussed defending it right up until that point.
His other title, the WBO, was also presumed to have been made available. Even the WBO announced an eliminator the 'vacant' WBO belt. But quick as a flash Calzaghe issued a public message saying he was keeping the WBO title !
Strangely during all this, Froch vs Inkin is made for the WBC title..... inkin pulls out with a week to go....it gets rearranged for several months later..... then Inkin pulls out with a week to go again.
THEN he declares himself unfit for the immediate future - so Jean Pascal comes in for the vacant title fight.
Suprise Suprise - Inkin miraculously recovers then fights Zuniga before Froch vs Pascal even happens...
... and then by SHEER COINCIDENCE Calzaghe vacates the WBO title with just 24 hours to spare before Inkin's fight, thus making it a fight for the World Title.
Does that inidicate a measure of the guy? how 'sporting he is' ?
One minute he says he is going to continue fighting at super middleweight after Hopkins, then the next he says he cant make the weight anymore when Froch arrives on his coat tails.
Yet he weight 166 for Kessler.

That would be four years ago when Froch was "stepping up" to face the likes of Matthew Barney, Ruben Groenwald, Damon Hague and Dale Westerman.
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
I guess we can read different things into how Calzaghe behaved towards the end of his career.
I wouldn`t count myself as one of Calzaghe or Froch biggest fan, so I`m trying to give an unbiased opinion. The way that I read it, is that Calzaghe was very much on the countdown to retirement, if he fought Froch then there would have been somebody else calling him out .. if he fought that guy there would undoubtly be another to take up the calling out .. I guess thats how it works...
Calzaghe very much wanted to earn the big purses, and as has been seen by the lack of interest in Froch v Taylor, a froch match whilst mouthwatering to us anoraks .. wouldn`t mean alot to the guy in the street who would in all probability never heard of Carl Froch.
So I guess he really wanted another high profile, high earning and high recognition fight .. neither of which Froch could bring to the table.
I guess Froch is very much in the position that Calzaghe was when Steve Collins sought similar things before retiring.
Let Froch do the hard work (which he looks more than willing to do) as Calzaghe did for so long then see if he too will risk it all towards the end on a risky low gain fight.

collins had fought all his adversary's in there prime,kalamby,mcallum,johnson...then came back to our shores later on to defeat pyatt, eubanks,& benn all at the same stage as one another in career terms.tonyevs wrote:I guess we can read different things into how Calzaghe behaved towards the end of his career.

collins had done it & was ready to pass the torch on,jc had avoided the best .he shared bills, defended against journeymen & tested yanks that had been beaten on german shores prior.
then fights two old boys, roy jones who had been sparked cold twicw in his last five, who he could of fought years ago
jc wants all the accolades only is intrested in talking about himself,he's career is rememberd for defeating eubank who was drafted in on 10 days notice & was drained & was retired as a 12st fighter, then 4 defeating a legend like jones who's been in loads of big fights & was shot,. jc is the biggest conman in boxing.
Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
i thought jc lost agAinst career middle b-hop who became champ by defeating a drained tarver.b-hop dropped him & was doing what he wanted 4 the first half didnt have him losing a rd!!but he decided to shut up shop & jc gallantly fought back even tho he didnt really get threw.
reid was a close one who many felt he won i scored it 4 jc just!!reid was docked for fouling.& jc never gave us fans a return.![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

no way did JC beat Reid, that decision was a joke.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: "Someone Tell Carl Froch - I've Retired"
I was in shock that so many people had Calzaghe winning by big scores. I think I had it 114-113, and I feel I was generous on Joe. Hopkins was just so accurate if not necessarily a workaholic on fight night.
