Look, let's be realistic, Tyson is a 38 year old, inactive fighter, with indifferent training habits, and a less than spartan lifestyle. Just how much is needed to stop him advancing, maybe not that much.
I don't know the answer to this, but at his age and with his recent form, Tyson could be completely and utterly shot.
exactly. noone knows what kind of miserable character may be standing opposite danny williams on friday. it may be a totally decrepit fossil who can no longer even muster the rudiments of technique after all that's happened to him, plus the long layoff, plus the heart not in it syndrome, plus the mental instability. on the other hand, tyson may just look like he did in the 1st round vs lewis. If he does, this standard probably will be enough for him to win in the 1st.
right, i'm off to watch said round and try and see danny williams in lennox's place.
If Danny can somehow replicate the LL template he has got a decent chance.
Keep Tyson at bay with his good fast jab and bring in well timed big rights and uppercuts. Plus be on his toes to avoid the first few waves on assault he could well be faced with the unambitious plodder that Lennox picked apart.
But as everyone says he has all the tools, that's not the issue. I reckon a trim version of DW is possibly the best physical HW specimen around at the moment.
Hey - if there is a mad scientist who could somehow transfer the mind and fighter spirit of Holyfield into Danny i'd put my house on Tyson being stretchered out of the ring...
Trying to make my mind up on this fight - last night, as I drifted off to sleep, I could see Danny covering up well and Tyson bouncing punches off his high guard, getting more and more frustrated ( think Watson/Benn )
and running out of ideas after 6 minutes or so.....
Then Mike staying on his stool after round 8, complaining of a bad back.
This morning I'm back to thinking Danny's nerves get the better of him and Tyson blows him away quick time.
Two weeks ago this fight must have excited the hell out of Williams, but as he's getting nearer to the crunch, and the fact he's getting in the ring with a legend pulls in to focus, he's going to have a lot of demons to deal with.
When Danny Williams flattened Draskovic a short time ago he looked great to me. Relaxed, confident, and the right hand looked as destructive as it ever has.
But everything we've seen of Williams suggests that in a super high pressure situation like this he's going to crack. How can he possibly fight smartly or confidently against this kind of fire power and in front of this size crowd? It's just not going to happen.
IMO the best we can hope for is that Williams manages to avoid the early bombs, doesn't get tired inside when wrestling, and hangs on until the storm blows itself out. In other words, Tyson has to beat himself for Danny to have his arm raised at the end.
Its a test of wills, and both fighters self-belief and strength of character is questionnable.
I suppose on that battle, the fact Tyson has been in with much badder men than Williams gives him the huge pyschological edge. Physically, WILLIAMS SHOULD win this fight.

Williams isnt fit too lace up LL's gloves! No comparison can be made at all.
Williams supposedly hits hard at british level, but Tyson has taken countless big shots from Lewis and Holyfield who are on a totally different level to Williams. Danny's only chance is on points, or DQ he cant ko tyson. I cant see any way he wont $hit his pants at the first bell and get clocked. Being relaxed and confident against Draskovic is a far cry from facing Tyson.

As I said in my own excellent and well thought out article (plug) Tyson had the advantage of a history of winning and being top flight, whilst Danny is plagued by self-doubt, Tyson's doubt is whether he can get anywhere near that level again. Big difference.
I think its clear Brewster is being looked after, given a freebie v Meehan, to keep him in place until Tyson is ready either after Williams or a nice easy-payday versus Tarver.
From the Brewster fight who is worryingly game, would presumably come either Ruiz or Holyfield.
I think a hungry fighter could be Tyson at the moment, but I don't think Williams is hungry enough. His confidence is low and he doesn't believe in himself, or in recent interviews, seem to have much love for the sport.
If somebody who was up and coming and wanted more success, and knew beating Tyson would be a huge springboard, I think Tyson would lose. Unfortunately this is not that fight.
This is a fight between two going nowhere heavyweights. Its like they are both in shit creak. The winner might get a paddle, but thats about it.
