Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Why is this post made? Doesn't he actually have to... you know, BEAT Taylor first?
You're talking about it like it's already happened. Even then, I think a lot of it will be about the style in which he wins. I get the feeling that you'd say Froch was better even if he was a game loser over 12.

I think you are forgetting Mikkeal Kessler

He mentioned kesller
Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
We haven't seen kessler struggle with spinks and get ko'ed by pavlik also. Both kessler and taylor are good win and until each faceoff it almost impossible to rate them.search wrote:Let me present the case.
Froch is going in there against a Taylor who, in my opinion beat bernard hopkins (a better version of hopkins that did joe in the eyes of some people and one of the judges).
Taylor is coming up yes, but he is a top class performer. he beat pavlik in his rematch on my scorecard. The only win that joe has that contests this win for froch is his win over Kessler. But we haven't seen Kessler beat a bernard Hopkins twice.

Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Spinks won that fight 7 rounds to 5 i reckon. Taylor was sooooo negative at middleweight.
I thought he should of got a draw or a close win in the Pavlik rematch though. Pavlik is awful and was owned by Bitchkins.
fornicate Hopkins, that guy is a bitch the way he wanted to lose against Joe.
Beating Kessler would be a bigger win since Taylor hasn't done nothing at the weight yet, his achievements were 8 pounds south.
Still though Taylor's jab is enough to beat Froch. Froch won't ever achieve anything close to Calzaghe.

Awful thread, and no it won't be bigger than any of Calzaghe's wins.
Another anti-Calzaghe waste of time.

is this a prime Taylor who has been ko`ed by Pavlik .. and wobbled by a seriously shop worn Lacy

Because Kessler hasn't fought a Taylor level opponent yet. And we don't know how good he really is. We know he was ood enough to give Calzaghe problems and lose narrowly, but that doesn't make him a great fighter.
Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Didn't one of the judges also think Hopkins won in the first Taylor fight? Your post is clearly bias. If Froch wins it will be a great win for him, but don't try telling me Calzaghe wouldn't kick Taylors asssearch wrote:Let me present the case.

What an ill thought out arguement - I blame inbreeding.
Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Taylor is overrated but he should still have enough to beat Froch, Taylor was HBOs lovechild which is why he got the nod in the two Hopkins fights which could have gone either way, then he got that ridiculous gift of a draw against Winky. Is Froch world class? I don't know because he's never beaten a world class fighter(and don't mention Pascal whose record had more padding than the local nuthouse).
Here's to hoping the title stays in the great USA

Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
To be fair, Joe went down from a forearm smash from Jones - not a punch. Joe's problem was allegedly. A fantastic promoter in the sense that he makes his fighters sh*t loads of money (not as much as himself!) and keeps their records 'clean'. (Hence his shock when Khan was KO'd - that wasn't in the script and I bet there won't be a rematch!).
However, from a fan's point of view he is the worst thing out there. Ricky Hatton was kept away from the dangerous guys until Warren spotted Tszyu was on the other side of 'peak mountain'. Hatton then dumped Warren, took top fights in the US and challenged the best in the business a weight up. Warren would never have let that happen.
I still regard the WBO as a minor belt and it is no coincidence many in the business call it the 'Warren Boxing Organisation'. For Joe to claim he was 'world' champion for 10 years is - in my opinion - an insult. Sven Ottke rained just as long as IBF (and later WBA/IBF) champion. Until Lacy/Kessler, Joe had never fought for a major 'world' belt in almost 10 years as WBO 'champ' and had avoided the best in their prime. I'm not a typical Joe knocker because you have to respect the fact he has retired undefeated. But I AM frustrated as it would have been fantastic to see him in the mix with a peak Jones Jr, Hopkins, Ottke and to a lesser extent Beyer.
I am therefore in agreement that if - and it is still a BIG IF - Carl would have achieved more in two fights by winning the prestigous WBC title and defending it in America against a top American in his prime than Joe did in a decade. Carl will also in my opinion seek to unify the belts and would rather lose his title trying to prove he is the undisputed super-middleweight champ early doors rather than stay at home and pick off 'easier' opponents and rake in the cash. It is a matter of opinion which route is the wisest, but as a fan I hope he goes the dangerous way! For what it is worth, I take Carl to stop Jermaine late on - unless Taylor 'box and runs' in which case it will be in the hands of the judges and with home advantage could go either way.
If Carl does hold on to the title, he simply won't be allowed to sit under the radar and defend in the UK only. The WBC belt is too important to the yanks and top fighters will want that strap as opposed to the WBO which they can happily take it or leave it.

Sorry, I should have pointed out that in the interests of fairness Ottke was as guilty as Joe when he came to fighting away from home. Perhaps they should have met in France about halfway!! I think Joe would have taken him apart - it is frustrating that we'll never know

Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
Unfair to Taylor he outworked Hopkins in the early rounds but got the nod in 2 close fights and although I had Winky and Spinks beating him they could go either way. However these are 3 of the best P4P that are tricky for any fighter, plus I reckon Taylor was stuggling to make 160. Plus you forget Taylor should have got the nod in the Pavlik rematchbanjo wrote:Taylor is overrated but he should still have enough to beat Froch, Taylor was HBOs lovechild which is why he got the nod in the two Hopkins fights which could have gone either way, then he got that ridiculous gift of a draw against Winky. If Froch beats Taylor, big big if, it maybe better than any Calzaghe win but is approx on par with BHOPs(controversal)/Kessler as an opponent. I'd also say this Prime Taylor is P4P better than any win Hatton has mustered to date

Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
It's a difficult one.
I'd say if Froch had fought (and beat) Taylor pre-Pavlik, then it would've been a bigger win than Joe's over Kessler.
I personally feel that Taylor went into the Hopkins bouts too soon, too green, despite winning, and he's never quite recovered since then. I think those fights took something away from him. You could see it in the rematch and I think a 3rd fight would've seen him lose. I'd guess that he was put in with smaller guys after that in order to boost his confidence, but it backfired.
Taylor beat Hopkins more convincingly than Calzaghe did, Taylor did better vs him early, Joe did a smidge better than him late. Neither were convincing wins, but Taylor's 2 wins were both individually more convincing than Joe's.
That's all irrelevant now though, Taylor's been beaten by Pavlik and has looked a far less frightening prospect than he did pre-Hopkins.
As fighters, I dont think Froch could hold a candle to Calzaghe, but a win over Taylor, and perhaps 2 or 3 more big wins, would easily see him surpass the level of opposition that Joe faced. Whether it would be enough to negate a 10 year reign, weak or not, is another thing. I think it would be, but then I've never seen longevity as being greater than the sum total of a fighter's ledger.
Again, that's not relevant as I'm pretty sure that even a slightly jaded/faded Taylor will have enough to exploit Froch's wide open defence. Unless he tags Taylor with something damaging, I can only see him losing. I'm tempted to say by KO, but given Taylor's negativity at times it could go to the cards.

Whether you like Calzaghe or not you can't argue with Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and even Reid, Mitchell and Eubank

if froch beats taylor away i can see the logic of putting it on a level with beating kessler at home but not as high as beating Nard away (i thought hopkins at least went 1-1 with taylor).
But still has to go some way to build his resume up to that of JC's.

Confirmed Taylor`s stamina problem .. raises once again the myth of Froch`s punch power .. he only got to Taylor when he was seriously gassed, Taylor was the one who put Froch down early when the tanks were full
Nobody can seriously now argue Froch would have beaten Calzaghe .. Calzaghe has a better engine than Froch, no way does Calzaghe tire like Taylor did, Joe would most likely win just about every round as easilly as his Lacy fight.
Re: Froch beating Taylor is better than any of Calzaghes wins
I agree Joe would be way ahead on points and be boxing Carl's head off. But I have a feeling Carl would catch up with him in the end and stop him. Although I agree Joe had an incredible engine and was probably one of the fittest fighters I have ever seen considering the amount of punches he would throw and not even be out of breath!
Shame we'll never find out although it must be tempting for Joe, the Millenium Stadium would sell out and the ppv would go through the roof not just in the UK but also in the US thanks to Carl's win over Taylor. $$$$££££!!!
The positive if it doesn't happen will be that punters like us will always have an opinion and argue for years about who would have won! That's why we love this sport!
