So I'm at the wrestling and who do I see.....
Cue comments about how sad I am for going to watch Wrestling right about nowwwww.....
Anyway, I'm at the Wrestling in Doncaster on saturday night and I'm in the cheap seats, and I think I see Ryan Rhodes on the front row. After much deliberating about whether it is him or not (I'm convinced it is, my mate not so) we move to near the front to get a closer look. Sure enough, its Ryan Rhodes and sat next to him is Johnny Nelson! Blatantly didn't expect to see them there, so I go up and have a quick word and get photos with them both. Both were really nice, and I asked Johnny is predictions for the upcoming big fights-he said Froch to beat Taylor and Pacquiao to beat Hatton.
So I go back to my seat and realise Kell Brook is now with them as well. They were all there with their kids and seemed to be enjoying it loads.
They even teased at a Rhodes wrestling match (their next show is conveniently in Rhodes' home city) with a staredown with one of the wrestlers.

Thats a bit weird but they were with there kids so its not that bad. i never was interested in pro wrestling but since realizing what goes on behind the scenes find it downright disgusting

All the drug abuse, finishing a night getting in your car going to the next night to punish your body even more, promoters not giving a shite about the health of the wrestlers , basically just a lot of abuseAsterix wrote:What happens behind the scenes?metropol wrote:Thats a bit weird but they were with there kids so its not that bad. i never was interested in pro wrestling but since realizing what goes on behind the scenes find it downright disgusting

The wrestling is a Quality night out , took the kids the other day in Glasgow
the trash talk and banter is funny and sold out venues everywhere
They do put there body through the mill though with touring and performining everynight

Im sure someone else can verify this , look at the amount of pro wrestlers that have died recently . Ive seen a couple of decent documentaries on youtube , One talking about your very own british bulldog.

Re: So I'm at the wrestling and who do I see.....
Yeah considering it's all 'fake', these guys do put their bodies through a lot of damage, and that tells over the years. All these guys now dying in their late 30s/early 40s of heart failure, yeah that's got to be the roids.
I bet you Hulk Hogan feels like absolute shit when he gets out of bed in the morning!

I seem to remember Steve Foster Sr having a small role in a WCW event in Manchester in the late 90s. He reffed a match and got involved in a bit of push-and-shove, or some such. Presumably a budget version copcyat of Tyson's involevment in Wrestlemania.chrisfinch wrote:They even teased at a Rhodes wrestling match (their next show is conveniently in Rhodes' home city) with a staredown with one of the wrestlers.

Boxing has been a figure in the wrestling for years
Muhammad ali , Mike Tyson , Floyd Mayweather , Evander holyfield
and even Clubber Lang

Ah, Mr T v Roddy Piper... a boxing match for the purists there!
Speaking of which, Butterbean v Bart Gunn at Wrestlemania was a "for real" boxer v wrestler match and ended very quickly in a violent knockout win for the Bean.

We're the other boxing matches in the run up to it, i.e the tournament to decide who fought Bean, also real? I dont remember who fought who, but I do remember there were WWF (as it was) superstars facing each other along the way.oliverfennell wrote:Ah, Mr T v Roddy Piper... a boxing match for the purists there!

Re: So I'm at the wrestling and who do I see.....
lol fair point...
My main concern with Rafferty-Witherspoon, though, is that both had been refused licenses by the BBBC. And beyond that, it's sad to see Witherspoon fighting - in any format - at 51, and especially losing to a journeyman.
At least Butterbean and Bart Gunn were young guys at the time.

Re: So I'm at the wrestling and who do I see.....
Yes they were. Apparently Bart Gunn winning the tourney was a big upset. Poor guy got knocked into oblivion by 350lb of prime Bean for his reward, and then got immediately sacked afterwards by the WWF for his poor performance!Wales wrote:We're the other boxing matches in the run up to it, i.e the tournament to decide who fought Bean, also real? How old is Oliver McCall? He's fighting this weekend. He must be what 48?
Remember when the Spoon had that mini-revival in the late 90's-early 00's, was it Bostice and Barrett or similar he beat.
He was pencilled in for Danny Williams for some spurious WBF belt wasn't he? Or am I remembering it all wrong.

Re: So I'm at the wrestling and who do I see.....
The Mr T vs Roddy Piper Boxing match at Wrestlemania 2 was an absolute shocker. The "shot" that knocks Piper out of the ring lands about 6 feet away from him terrible.
Mike Tyson leading up to Wrestlemania XIV was actually done pretty well, even if the ending was predictable.
I've always wondered whether Bart Gunn v Butterbean a year later was a legit match or staged, but according to here it was real. I always presumed "WWF its all fake" but fornicate me Gunn takes a couple of hard, hard shots. This was back when Butterbean was the privileged "IBA Super Heavyweight Champion"
And last year they did Big Show v Mayweather Jnr which again was pretty good. They played off Floyd's natural "bad guy" actions and although the match was a bit odd, it was certainly better than I expected.
