Which current world champ (proper belt) lost on his debut to a man who had been a 'proper belt' world champ just 30 months earlier?

His manager must have been mental throwing him in so deep for his first contest!

Marquez. I thought it might be Juan Manuel, i remember he had a DQ loss in his first fight. But i checked out his brother on the off-chance (i knew he'd lost a few).

Rabanales doesn't ring a bell, although i'm pretty sure i've seen his fight with McCullough.

Yes, Rafael Marquez. Rabanales was a tough boy. Lost a few certainly, but usually in good company. Had loads of title fights.

Rabanles was an animal. He was robbed against McCullough; rocked him to his boots with a right hand. Was a good champ, too. He eventually lost his WBC title to the Korean who staged a ring sit-in at the Seoul Olympics.

Nah, Rabanles was robbed big style. He backed McCullough up. The Belfastman can't fight off the back foot.

Nah, it was a hard fight but Wayne did enough. Judges cards read: 116-110, 117-110 and 115-113.

I was thinking the same thing this morning when I looked up the Marquez record ( for the prediction league ). That's one hell of a brave manager he had, what exactly was he thinking?!

Marquez looked dynamite last time out, but his chin looks suspect and he might even get found out this weekend....

i remember that korean fella, didn`t know he turned pro, nice to see he won a respected belt.
didn`t they switch the arena lights off on him because his protest lasted so long or was that the other korean bloke who`s sit in record he beat?
it happened a couple of times.
wasn`t it seoul where they had the two rings side by side and one had a bell and one had a buzzer (and both rings had flashing police car style lights on the corner posts). it almost decended into farce with some fighters stopping and others carrying on.
if you include the jones fiasco the seoul olympics nearly sounded the death knell for boxing at the olympics.
