i know he had a great record and a few titles , used to be a poster of him at our boxing club
i just always thought he was one of these eastern Europeans that always had hometown fights and didnt fight the top guys.
i never really watched Light heavys though unless it was RJJ so didnt really know much about the scene.

Simply no way. Even though MICHAELCZEWSKI w2as my favorite fighter of the 90's from europe (not including GB) RJJ would of stood him on his head.

Michalczewski was very good. He was slow, though. In this day, his achievements would have earned him a prestigious "Ring mag" title. A lot of good modern fighters he would have beaten. Great jab, excellent strength and stamina, easy to hit, often too easy, and not very fast.

Nice wins over Hill, Barber, Rocchigiani, Piper and Prince. Lot of crappy defences also but what do you expect, Germany and WBO etc.

he was gonna make a come back against Ottke last year wasn't he until it got binned...he should come back for a fight against RJJ to settle the dispute once and for all.

Adamek remind me a lot of Dariusz.

I'm undecided on the RJJ debate.

I don't think 'Tiger' would have beaten RJJ but either way he was still a great champion.

Good solid jub, HUGE heart, and he seemed to take great pleasure in walking down his opponents until their legs had gone!

The poor Mensa Man took a really bad beating at the hands of Dariusz. I was watvhing it from behind a pillow, afraid to look. A bit like a kid watching a horror movie! PAINFUL!

I'm in the minority but I actually thought Michaelczweski beat Gonzales.

As good as he was, Jones would have toyed with him.

Michaelczweski vs Calzaghe would have been something.

Very basic, well conditioned but really nothing that special and fought weak competition for the most part. Not in Jones stratosphere ability wise and possibly should have had 2 losses to Rochiagani 1 and Hall 1

Roy Jones would have stood him on his head, and i suspect Dariusz knew that. I saw him box live a couple of times, when I travelled down from the family home in Denmark to watch him in germany. I also saw him training in Hamburg. He was good, but not even close to Roy Jones level. Hopkings and Calzaghe would beat him too.

Rocchi 1 should have been a loss. He got beaten and then quit. However, Rocchi was on some kind of banned substance. DM won a superb rematch. He was obviously very good to have taken Hill's WBA and IBF belts, to have beaten power pinching Barber for the WBO. Most of his opponents were crap, but he did beat Barber, Rochi, Hill, as well as Griffin, Thadzi, Piper, Prince.

His strength and pulverising jab were definitely special. But I do think he was too slow for Jones.

My view is that from around 97-2000, he was a very good pressure fighter, kind of like 122 champ Israel Vazquez. Strength, stamina, toughness, some underrated skills. But he wouldn't have done well vs moble fighters.

He wasn't very good from 2001 onward - slowed down to an absolute crawl. Not seen 1st Hall fight, but after getting cut up in rd one of rematch, he dominates rest of fight with those jolting jabs and right hands. The stoppage wasn't a bad one.

If he had been younger and fought in the post RJJ era, I think he would have beaten Tarver and Johnson and could have had a great fight with Adamek.

I severely weight drained Roy Jones with dulled reflexes was ko'd by Tarver and Johnson.3-4 years earleir he would have wiped the floor with the pair of them.tarver was very, very ordinary. he threw very basic and effective punches.

Roy Joens was the star, and if Michaelczewski wanted the money and glory, the onus was on him to go to the states and fight roy jones + how many terrible decision have you seen in germany? I think after the soul olympics, roy, was genuingley reluctant to fight abroad again.

I was at 1st Hall fight, and very, very close. I thought the stoppage was BS from my head, and wrote up report like that, but I was wrong. Hall's eye was closed shut and he couldn't see. And DM won rematch handily. Jones was KTKO by Johnson, who couldn't put Clinton Woods down in 36 rounds, and by Tarver. I think RJJ's speed would have won the fight, but that's not my point. My point is RJJ avoided him all the while saying there were no real challengers and forcing gimmicks like him playing basketball on after noon of fights on us.
yeah i agree with that, jones would have beaten him, got some of the vacant belts, passed himself off as "undisputed champ". Dariusz had beaten some worthy foes and had unified 3 belts, so that was the fight jones should have gone for. i think they were both happy to make their money seperately.

i think DM earned loads of money in Germany, probably drew massive crowds and was probably a decent star over there. both did what they wanted, ultimately

I hope DM is a rich man, becuase I think I read an interview with him recently that said he had spent all his money on ex wifes etc. I hope he's got some left. I like him and saw quite of few of his fights a) on tv in denmark, and a couple live, and he seems like a good guy to boot. that said, i think Roy was too good for him.I think Roy, like Mayweather at his best was really something.

I don't doubt Dariusz got paid well, but he would have earned mega against roy in the states.

If you trained all your life and went to the olympics (when a boxing gold medal really meant something) and were blatantly robbed, you too would lose some confidence in fighting abroad, I'm sure.

I saw DM with his wife/girlfriend in 2001 and let me assure you, it was money well spent! :P :P
HBO thinks boxing starts in Vegas and ends in New York; they wouldn't pay DM what he deserved to be paid. They waste money on RJJ v bum of the month, but not spend to get DM v RJ on.

Have to remember, these are the same assclowns who sent camera and full HBO crew to Manchester in 1998 to cover Hamed fight, but didn't take Eubank v Thompson 1 which was on the same effing show! Knobs
re: his fit wife. Noted

re:HBO.I have to admit that they let RJ get away with everything, and he boxed more than his fair share of soft touches -a real shame as his talent was breath taking.

What is DM doing thse days? I hope he is onvoled in boxing in some capacity and doing well

DM has lost a LOT of money and from what I hear doesnt have too much left at all (but then again it's all relative to how much he had in the first place).

Dont underestimate how big he was in Germany as soon as Maske retired (he was barely known before that) and he came along to beat Virgil Hill. He was HUGE and he made a mint. However he has wasted a fortune, and my Germany mother-in-law always says to me "Michalcewski - no good with women, loses a lot of money".

My memory says he actually married the same woman twice within his 3(?) marriages - but I am very willing to be proved wrong there.
