Very true although the Cuban battered him in the rematch. I think the only other Americain future Pro to beat Stevenson was Craig Payne, although Stevenson was on the slide by then.headhunter wrote:bobick did something that a lot of fighters didnt manage to do.
he beat teofilio stevenson in the amateurs.
its something that michael dokes, greg page, tony tubbs and john tate couldnt do.
Larry Holmes still speaking his mind...

It's a true story. Picked it up somewhere ages ago. Bobick went through a terrible time when his career floundered and then came to an end. You can feel his anger and frustration on board that plane. He said he couldn't watch a fight for 10 years after he retired. He's found peace now. Perversely, the terrible injuries he suffered in that paper mill helped him. His hands were fucked and he knew it was really over.

Yeah I can well imagine the scene on the plane. The accident was around 18 years after his last fight though, was he still considering a comeback? The Foreman factor probably.
He really was The Great White Hope for awhile, having won 38 straight before running into Norton.
The Spinks saga he's complaining about must've been Leon opting for an Ali rematch, rather than face No#1 Norton.
Norton was given the WBC title, then had to face Holmes in his first defence.
