It was always a serious offence and failing to face the original charges can't have helped but thats a big sentence. I hope he uses the time inside to think about his life after boxing because the light is now close to being extinguished on his career.

That's pretty much the end of his comeback now, the only thing that could save him is if the Spanish authorities allowed him to have fights from within the prison(which has been done for boxers in other countries previously) but I seriously doubt the Spanish will be so accommodating.

Oh sorry I wasn't aware something published in a paper in November 2000 quoting someone who's opinion that Barlinnie was the worst jail outside of Russia makes me a liar

bar ls not the nicest of places its the y os u need 2 watch out for.but im sure an ex world champ will b able 2 handle himself enywer.besides the ;ast time he was in the prisoners were helping him train apparently

Whilst he deserves whats coming to him - it is still sad to see a demise of a courageous boxer and one who had money etc etc - such a shame he let it all go to waste.

Barlinnie is no holiday camp my friend ask anyone unfortunate (or stupid) enough to have served time there and i never once called you a liar i was just pointing out that the jail he is going to will probably be no worse than the one hes already been to,sorry if i offended.Being locked up in a strange country is never going to be pleasant but if anyone can handle it you would think a hardcase ex boxing world champ would be able to.There will be plenty of brits on drugs and assault charges in there to mingle with him any way i would imagine.

You quoted and said that my post was not true therefore your implying I'm a liar, my guess is he was treat with some respect in Barlinnie even off the guards due to who he was and probably had it easier than most, he won't get that sort of treatment where he is now.

Although it's difficult not have a shred of sympathy for someone with anger and substance abuse issues, you can't go around hurting people and expect to get away with it indefinately.

The worst thing is, he had a clear escape route from all of those demons too. An attrocious waste of talent.
