Terry Dunstan (How good was he ???)
I was watching Eurosport a few months back & i heard Steve Holdsworth talking about Terry Dunstan - Saying that he was a brilliant fighter and should have become world champ (Holdsworth was saying Dunstan sholud never have lost to that Mayfield fella), can anyone give me any input on how good Dunstan really was.
talent wise he was one of the best....
he was well ahead on points against Mayfield, then got caught late. I have it on good authority that he was out clubbing the night before the fight.
i am not sure if he was doing hard drugs but the fact he ended up doing armed robbery suggests he was doing something wrong.
His fight with Carl Thompson was a classic... he battered Thompson for teh first 6 rounds then Carl started coming back into it then knocked him out cold in the last round.....
If he had the work ethic and discipline to match his talent he would have been world champ for a good few years

Vauxhall Cavalier showed so much promise but ended up a clapped out Vauxhall Nova!
I worked on the newspaper that reported the crime he committed before going down for the eight-year (if I remember correctly) stretch and although I can't remember it graphically he terrorised some poor woman during the break-in (won't go into further detail as I can't remember exactly what happende but I think it was a pub on the Fulham Road).
Plus, if you read about him in David Matthew's excellent book 'Looking for a fight' – he sounds like what they call 'a piece of work!' and not a particular nice fella at all.
I phoned up Steve Bunce and asked him if he'd be so kind to give me any background details on Dunstan and whether he had any family and Buncey, the affable, or should I say, arrogant wannabe big-time Charlie bollox he is, virtually put the phone down on me. Annoying thing is I wasn't digging for dirt as Dunstan had already been put away.

I think he abducted the landlady and forced her back to the pub at knife point to open the safe. I think it was the slug and lettuce in fulham.
Scary when someone as hard as he is has no control like that....
I remember clinton woods telling me that he Terry used to try and kill him whenever they sparred

Boxer jailed for assaults
Former European cruiserweight champion Terry Dunstan has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years for two attacks on women.
Both assaults were on staff of Slug and Lettuce pubs in central London in a bid to make them hand over keys to the bar tills, the Old Bailey was told.
Dunstan, 32, of Battersea, south London, admitted charges of false imprisonment, blackmail and aggravated burglary.
He told the court: "There is nothing I can say apart from I am very sorry.
"I know it will not help them but I would like to say sorry to the victims, their families and colleagues and for wasting the court's time."
Dunstan, a former British champion, won the European cruiserweight title in February 1998 when he beat Russian Alexander Gurov after just 20 seconds at the Elephant & Castle Leisure Centre.
One month later he lost his only world title bid when he was stopped by IBF champion Imamu Mayfield in Hull.
