Were the scales dicky?

Post by bennie »

Someone on the current scene forum has suggested the Tyson-Williams scales were dicky. Tyson asked to be weighed again. We all know how bad the Kentucky Commission is from the Greg Page disaster that took place in the State.

hmmm, not sure..... if Tyson asked to be reweighed it suggests he thought he was lighter than that. but if the scales were weighing heavy then you would expect the little boys fighting for the title would have come in a couple of lbs over. Dieppa was only 1/4 over and Solis was 1/4lbs under

Jimmy Lennon announced that Tyson weighed 243 initially, but it was his mistake. the weight was 233 as it was when they re-weighed Tyson.

Yeah, just looked at the weights on fightnews.com. Danny does look big. He takes the N'Gou fight late and weighs heavy. He trains hard for Tyson and weighs even heavier - his heaviest ever in fact. Danny wasn't kidding when he said Buster Douglas had inspired him for this fight.

Although I couldn't see the stomach area, Danny looked big, rather than fat. I cannot believe he wouldn't have trained hard for this one. If that is the case, he should retire.

"I'm 229 pounds right now and I feel incredible," said Mike Tyson on June 22.
Five weeks later, he weighs in at 233.

Going on the reputation of Jimmy Mac alone, I'd concur in saying that Williams must be fit for this fight.

he may well have been telling the truth, assuming he was training hard then and had been for a while... he should have eased off training this week and put on a bit of weight...

Fighters always seem to think the scales are a bit off the mark.

Personally I would have like to have seen Danny come in about 6lbs lighter.

of course it is...... :TU:

if he was 229 after a training session he could well have been close to 240 before the training session....

so a day or two off hard training, even five weeks later he could weigh in at 234

I dont' see what the fuss is about for Tyson's weight. I mean, the guy's not fought for two years and is 38. Joe Frazier weighed alot heavier for his third fight with Ali than he did the first but it didn't hinder him.

Danny's also a big guy and despite his weight, when you stand up close to him, he doesn't look that heavy (I saw him in the changing room just b4 he was due to fight Sprott and I actually told him he looked in great shape, which he did from where I was standing).

Come on Danny boy!!!!

Good point about Frazier, Dirt. But I don't think it applies to Danny. The heavier he weighs, the worse he fights.

Um, if I'm not mistaken Frazier won the first fight, but got bitchslapped for 14 rounds in Manila.

No, Frazier fought well in the third fight. He ruined Ali as much as Ali ruined him.

Frazier had his moments in the early going but after about the 7th it was all Ali - that tells me Frazier's stamina was no longer what it used to be. Both were damaged goods at that point, but Frazier more so than Ali.

If Frazier didn't have the stamina to force the issue, why was Ali demanding that his be gloves cut off and retire from the fight himself at the same time that Eddie Futch was retiring the hugely courageous Frazier?

When Douglas was in final training for Holyfield he was sent to the sauna to sweat a littleof the blubber off. Legend has it that he ordered a room service pizza be delivered to the sauna. Some people, when nervous or anxious eat to relieve the stress. I hope this isn't the case with Danny.

I would love our lad tocome away with the win but I just can't see the desire/mental toughness in him. Its a shame because physically he certainly has the tools.
