Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
Maybe Taylor needs to be trained by Enzo Calzaghe or something. Maybe he needs some red bull. Something to sort out that stamina. Otherwie he is just gonna get rope a doped by any half decent operator knowing that he is going to gas. I wouldnt rule him out in a rematch if he can sort this.
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
he was nervous as fuk though. The american atmosphere and big fight status hit him from round 1. He woke up after the 3red round beating..But thats not good enough , he needs to sort that defense. Shyt!!!
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
Carl Froch you fcuking beauty!!!
Bring em all on, come on Calzaghe stop pretending you've retired
What a fight!! That had me and my Dad screaming at the telly like lunatics in the 12th. Carl is a championship fighter, tough as nails with excellent stamina and an ironwill
That's my best ever night at the bookies, had an inspired £20 at 11/1 for Froch to win in rounds 10-12 on top of £50 at 11/10 for Froch to win and £60 at 11/4 for Froch to win by KO

Just watched the fight definitely saw it closer than the radio made it sound. I think Taylor looked good when he threw shots but that wasn't frequent enough.
I genuinely think that froch will have learned from this fight as well as he said himself it is only his 25th fight and he came through serious adversity against a very tricky style, he looked better defencivly when he started holding his arms around his chest (I don't think he'll ever be suited to a hands up style but I think he needs to get his hands higher when opponents are closer).
If I were him I'd take an easier fight next and then go for Bute. Ideally I think he should fight Bika, a fighter who has never been KOed but I believe Froch has it in him, a recognised name in the states because of the contender, and if he can do something nether Bute or Calzaghe did that would be meaningful and give him something to shout about, I also think an easier fight would b a good opportunity to put into practice some of the learning he should take from this fight.
Oh and I think he looks better when he fights often I would like his next fight to be in 4-5 months.

How do you think he'd fair against Kessler?

watched the fight on itv 4 having avoided it all day , and am delighted . im a fellow notts man and carl is the man in nottingham , the modern day legend .
i had it level going into last round but must have been biased cos i seem to be in minority but at the end when froch was interviewed in ring the guy said 2 judges had it 106-104 going into last round so even if the ref didnt stop it would have still been a draw and froch would have kept his "o"
i can understand people saying taylor deserves a rematch buy cant see hennesy having any of it to be honest , next fight will imo be ward in nottingham and ill be there just like i was his last home bout vs pascal , froch is a nottingham legend .
and despite everyone saying it for years its still infuriating to see his hands so low.
i love him but still dont think hes ready for kessler though

I had JT 2 rounds up going into the last.
Great win for Froch, im buying into the theory that the same as Naseem Hamed and Calzaghe that he was a little over awed on his american championship debut and was caught a little cold for the first few rounds, where Taylor looked the far better boxer. As froch relaxed and got down to it there was no real difference with many close rounds although the better technical work was by JT, until the power, stamina and determination from froch pulled him through.
As exciting a fight iv seen in a long time and shame on ITV, Sky and more so Setanta for not showing it Live

Well the only Kesslar fight I've seen was vs Calzaghe and I think that he looked good in that fight but styles make fights nd Froch and Calzaghe offer very different problems to oppoents, froch is much more powerful and it's difficult for his opponents to see where froch's shots are comming frm because of his low leading hand however he doesn't have Calzaghe's speed.
I thik Froch is on a tragectory where the more he fights at a high level the better he gets and Kesslar's last two opponents would suggest that he's not confident at worl level, so in short I think it'd be a good fight in 18 months time providing both keep winning.. would be a good unification fight in 3 or 4 fights time.
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
What a brilliant win, really pleased with that, well done Frochy
he looked a bit nervous and not very fluid but when he got going he was able to hold his own, didn't come a second too soon tho the win cos it was slipping away big time.
I'm sure he could have come again had he lost but thankfully he won.......that win gives calling out Calzaghe some real credibilty.......I'd have Joe a nailed on cert to beat Froch 99 times out of 100, but I wouldn't bet against this match coming off now.

i like carls supreme confidence. its like he knows he is destined for greatness.
strutting around the ring after the stoppage like he knew that result was inevitable

Yes but how highly do you regard the boxrec ratings i Know they try to be fair but i think (for me anyway) the ring ones are the best
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
They're very good for getting an idea of what is going on, but obviously miss the mark on some things. I'd put Froch at #3, below Kessler (#1) and Bute (#2).metropol wrote:Yes but how highly do you regard the boxrec ratings i Know they try to be fair but i think (for me anyway) the ring ones are the best
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
I think Carl has to be #1 on the basis of Taylor and Pascal. Kessler at #2 although very close between them, Bute quite a bit behind now at #3.

6. Anthony Mundine (Australia)
7. Edison Miranda (Colombia)
8. Robert Stieglitz (Germany) INTL
9. Sakio Bika (Cameroon)
so im taking it Froch can fight anyone in his next fight?
Well, there you have it, he's beaten the only one on that list that would have serious capabilities in beating him.
I suggest he has a few 'calzaghes' until someone decent comes along, or maybe Pavlik or BHop.
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
Saw the fight on ITV4 last night and was surprised at how nervous Carl was at the start, really couldn't see a way back for him after the 3rd but full credit to him the way he came back, fantastic finish. I see know problem with a rematch as long as Taylor is willing to come to Nottingham.
Thought the interviewer after the fight was a bit out of order. Kept pushing people on whether the ref should have aloud the last 14 seconds of the fight. Still pushing it after Froch, Taylor and the ref said they had no problem with it. I'm just glad the ref wasn't as brave as the interviewer as Taylor was clearly done at the end.

Barry McGuigan was an annoying cunnt throughout the fight, I don't mind his punditry, but he shouldn't be allowed near a commentators mike. He was constantly negative about Carl from start to finish.
He REPEATEDLY went on about Carls low left hand throughout the fight, OK make your point, but don't go on about it.
Towards the end of the fight Carl is stalking JT applying the pressure and throwing BIG shots and Barry's going on about how tired Carl is

Barry McG was a good fighter but he lost his hard earned title when he took it to the States, and it wasn't vs a top fighter!
Who is the top super middle?
I definitely have Froch ahead of Bute, a true hometown boy.
Froch is the only champ with a really big scalp and the only champ with consecutive COMPETITIVE title fights. Bute was gonna fight Lacy, Balzsay DID fight Masoe, Kessler is just fighting the bums that the WBA put in front of him.
Whether that makes him best or not, I think it makes him the bloke most likely to get on American TV.

He left it late but just about pulled it out of the bag. He does hit hard and that tends to get him of trouble so good for him.
In my very humble opinion he needs to change to a new trainer and learn some new things, defense being one of them. He's manged to win and defend a title on pure determination and his bring right hand and that is a truly great achivement. I really can't see his title run lasting long if he keeps fighting the way he does. If he can't detonate his big right hand then he will lose some fairly wide decisions - so he'd better forget getting Calzaghe out of his armchair because he would effectively end his own run if he goes for Joe.

There needs to be a super middleweight Tournament like the middleweight Tournament 9 years ago featuring. Hopkins, trinidad, joppy and daniels.
Re: Carl Froch POst Fight Discussion Thread super merged
Showtime said they were interested in maybe something like that.
Semi final 1 - Froch v Taylor
Semi final 2 - Bute v Green
or start with Bute-Green, Froch v mandatory (Ward-Miranda winner?), then winner v winner.
