Bradley stripped of WBC LW belt

Post by Croydon1 »

Means Alexander and Witter has been ordered for the vacant belt, Witter is lucky to get a chance so soon if this goes through smoothly.

(For Bradley refusing to fight Alexander next)

Whats the reason behind Bradley getting strpped from the belt?
i would not put it past if warren gets in there for khan to fight for the belt against the winner.

And risk Khan being decapitated by Witter :-?

WBC not happy that Bradley won the belt as a mandatory challenger but now won't face his Mandatory challenger in Alexander.

The article is on fight news

Didn't fulfil his mandatory in time.

I fancy Devon for the win here and shock a few people.

FW was willing to stick Khan in against MAB, and is putting him in v Kotenlik(sp) so he must be willing to match him against the likes of Witter and Alexander who are the weaker fighters at this level

I hope Hennessey is not stupid enough to try and have this at home. Witter doesnt have a fanbase and won't get one now so let himm have one last try of erasing showtimes memory of his fight with JudahThis needs to be in America UNLESS it is the undercard of Froch's next fight in Nottinngham

Isn't Alexander a Don King fighter? Probably means the fight would be in the US anyway.

Witter deserves a bit of luck. Not sure how good this Alexander is, could only find 1 15second clip of him, another undefeated young possibly very good prospect for Witter, he better be on fire this time.

How is Witter the weaker fighter, he has already beat Kotelnik?
Witter still is a massive puncher for that division,

Many had Kotelnik winning that fight and Witter has been on the slide since then. He still carries the power though which would probably be enough to get him a win against Khan.

Many were wrong then it was a clear 7-5 for Witter, Witter is a certainly a worse style for Khan than Kotelnik due to being a big hitting accurate counter puncher, no way Warren lets Witter anywhere near Khan

Khan will be dropped in the deepend against Hatton in a superfight within 18months

Good news for Witter surly if he wins he'd want his first Voluntary to be vs Bradley to undo the damage.

2009 WBC strips Bradley!

By Boxing Bob Newman

Three weeks ago, WBC Super Lightweight Champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley scored the biggest win of his career as he came off the floor to unanimously outscore WBO champion Kendall Holt in the unification bout. In breaking developments, the WBC has contacted fightviews exclusively to inform the boxing world that it is stripping Bradley for reneging on his promise to defend against #1 rated Devon Alexander after the Holt fight. Read on to see the explanation of WBC president Sulaiman as well as Bradley’s earlier communication to the WBC expressing his loyalty and requesting same from the organization.

WBC STATEMENT:

José Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council is officially announcing that the WBC is declaring the super lightweight championship vacant, as the former WBC champion Timothy Bradley has definitely rejected to make his mandatory defense against Devon Alexander, who is the official challenger designated by the past 46th annual WBC convention celebrated in Chengdu, China. Timothy Bradley won his title from Junior Witter of England, when he defended mandatorily his title against Bradley. Bradley stepped on the rule that gave him the WBC title, tarnishing the prestige, the image and the honor of all WBC champions.

Therefore, with Devon Alexander, USA, the # 1, and Junior Witter, England, the # 2 of the WBC world ratings, the organization is ordering a match among both of them for the vacant WBC super lightweight championship, with the free negotiations starting on April 28th and with a purse offer to be held on May 22nd, in Mexico City, if no negotiations are reached before that date.

The WBC is attaching a letter by the former champion Timothy Bradley, who stepped on his commitment and his word by accepting the exception made to the rules by the WBC, to approve his fight against Kendall Holt, knowing that his next fight should have been against Alexander, of who he must be probably afraid, or what is worse, following the pressures of his representatives, as the WBC was informed that SHOWTIME would not buy the fight of Bradley against Alexander, which would be a significant fact that would show the actions taken by people of the boxing industry to control and monopolize boxing.

Hopefully McCloskey will get a crack at the vacant European belt now then against another highly rated challenger, with O'Donnell-Haughian on the undercard.

As for Witter, I think his time has come and gone. He has a puncher's chance but if he has to travel to America to tackle a hungry, fresher, unbeaten fighter then I think he wil struggle.
