Tyson, torn ligaments?

Post by tonyevs »

If this is true then they will be able to show the MRI report.
I tore the cruciate and the meniscus ligament last year and I can tell you when it pops it is very, very painful.
Tyson is said to only have tore the meniscus, if this is true it is unbelievable he even stood up for the following three rounds.

And I bet he won`t have to wait the 2 yrs I have to to have it sorted, f----- NHS

I think it's a load of bullshit, straight off the "I broke my back" line of excuses. Tyson is a 3 round fighter plain and simple, both mentally and physically.

Yes it certainly is hard to see the former "Reign of terror" man a muddled 3 round brawler living on the past and heavily in debt. My fears for him are that if he eventually leaves Boxing he will end up one of two things either in prison again or dead....

Shelly Finkel knows all the tricks. Grab a wheelchair, wrap a man's leg up in bandages and tip off a few photographers...

Shelley Finkel was a disgrace after the fight, bitching on about torn ligaments and how Danny was pushing and leaning on Tyson. Don't like it up 'em do they?

Referee was a homer of the worst kind and should be sacked.

Well done to Williams, I'm just gutted he didn't take him out in the next round as I'd have won over £600!!!!!

Nice to see the good guys (Williams and Jim McDonnell) come first. Had a quick chat with Jimmy yesterday and he was delighted. I said it would have been a shame that someone with Danny's ability looked back onhis career and didn't have that kind of win on his resume and he agreed.

I'm not sure who this Dwight character is though. Sounds like a bit of a leech to me and from what I've been told but there you go. They're always lurching waiting to latch onto someone for their next wheel.

That's what Danny wants to watch now because all of a sudden everyone's going to want to be his best mate. I think he'll be okay though because from the times we've met he comes across very humble, affable and a good family man.

Did feel sorry for Tyson purely that he could have had it all and blew it, but you can't go on about how you're a victim when you've earnt $571m in your career and pissed it up the wall. Shame this so-called 'mellow' version didn't come along after three years in prison (not saying he was guilty or innocent of rape, but he shouldn't have put himself in such a position in the first place).

I think Danny should get an eliminator and then go for Klitschko, because he's the best guy out there. Just hope he steers clear of a certain spiky-haired fella on the promotional and management side.

Exactly the way i feel mate.

The first fight i ever saw was Tyson destroying Berbick to make history as youngest ever Heavyweight champ. I remember my Dad waking me up early in the morning to make me watch it and from there the fascination with boxing began. I will never forget that morning as had never seen anything like that before.

Tyson has always been my favourite fighter due to his ferocious style which will never be seen again in the heavyweight division (in my opinion) To see him get beat on friday was hard to take in as i honestly thought that despite his age and inactivty that he had a chance to make some money and get a portion of the title back and maybe retire happy.

Unfortunatly i think he will end up being seen as an opponent with a good name to put on a record.

If the story of the knee injury is true then i would expect him to carry on in order to make £££

You were right, Dirt: Danny's weight had nothing to do with poor conditioning and everything to do with bulling Tyson around and pushing him back. He pulled off a truly great win - one of the greatest wins ever by an Englishman abroad.

I think the pic posted by Freiheit yesterday was quite revealing as to the real state of Tyson's left knee.

My fornicating arse, there was nothing wrong with his bloody knee. He was throwing plenty of shots in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with full power, he just ran out of gas because he was shitting himself.

The turning point for me was the 3rd round. Tyson bulls Williams into the corner, and Williams spins and and just shoves him into the corner, and then starts teeing off. 1 point to danny psychologically.

Then when Tyson drives him to the ropes later, Danny fires back, cutting Tyson, and then when they are broken up, Danny hits him on the break, which is precisely what he was advised to do by former fighters. Tyson gets cut, and starts whining like a bitch because he can't handle being bullied. The look on Tyson's face was just like that look of anxiety between rounds against Lewis, he couldn't hack it, and was hyperventilating in the corner after round 3. He tried desperately to get Danny out of there in the 4th, but then he was completely spent.

Since when do you need your entire leg in bandages to protect a damaged ligament, that looks like something you would get out of a joke shop!

Shelley Finkel is just trying to protect his cash cow, but it's too late, the American public will never forgive Tyson for getting battered by a guy who was meant to be the fall guy, it's over, he won't be a PPV draw, and nobody will want to put their money up to back him.

Having said that, I was saddened to see Mike slumped there, very sad. He's just not got it any more at the one time in his life he really needs boxing, he's just left it too late, and taken too many short cuts with his body. He's finished, totally finished.

Go on Danny! Well done my son! I had a flutter too, 6-1, not bad. Wish I had a bet on round 4 at 80-1 though.

Tyson's ex-wife, Monica, a doctor, revealed the results of the MRI scan on the fighter's left knee. This happens to be the same ex-wife owed millions of dollars by Tyson. She is to be paid off as part of Tyson's seven fight package over the next two years.
She has no reason to lie then.

What a fornicating joke. She and Finkel are vampires. Tyson has to quit, do they want the poor guy to end up getting killed in there. He got a real beating from Williams, he was on unsteady legs on the way to the dressing room and was being held by someone on either side.

Poor fornicator.

That's just what I was thinking, surely only the knee itself would require strapping up?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I work in a hospital, and I have seen someone with a torn ligament, they were in absolute agony and could barely walk.

The first thing which was done was to strap up the knee in a support bandage to stop the kneecap deviating, and then a cold compress applied to prevent swelling. Then the leg was put in a plaster to immobilise the entire leg and prevent further damage, after reparing the damaged ligament with surgery.

We've all seen footballers with cruciate ligament injuries, they are invariably lying on the floor howling in agony, not sitting on the ropes casually with their leg bent at over 90 degrees.

This story is bullshit of the highest order.

When they bandaged mine they strapped from the ankle up to the top of my thigh, the meniscus does not prevent bending the knee quite like the cruciate, don`t know if its true or not, just if he did tear it I am surprised he could have an 18stone fella lean on him so much without the knee giving completely.

This is clearly wrong.
When Tyson was on top, (and it looked like Danny wouldn't last much longer) Tyson clearly grabbed his knee and bitched about it to the Ref.
Everyone saw that. That was the point at which the injury occured.

To claim otherwise is pretty pointless. As it happened at a time in the fight when he was smacking Danny about, I think it's fair to say Tyson was not looking for a way out of the fight at that stage.

The real question is whether the knee injury effected his game or not.
He seemed to be planting his feet OK in the remaining rounds but his attacks didn't rock Danny in the same way as they did in the 1st. Might be injury related, might be stamina, only Tyson knows that.

From what both Tyson and Roach were saying before the fight, I don't think either of them were mentally prepared for a fight longer than 4 rounds, but I had assumed Tyson was at least Physically prepared. But during the 4th, he was shattered, no doubt.

I think any fighter who can keep Tyson at bay for a few rounds has every chance. As it happens, Danny didn't keep Tyson at bay at all, but still got through the first 3 somehow.

Hmm, you may have a point. However, I thought at the time Tyson was complaining about a low blow. I would need to review it on tape to see it.

I thought he was moaning about a low shot too. Either way I didn't notice any significant drop in Tyson's punch output after that "incident".

Williams just punched his way through him.

From fightnews.

"Iron Mike tore the ligament in the first round of last night's bout which hampered the leverage on his punches. It is not known when or if the 38-year-old Tyson will continue his comeback, but promoter Bob Arum told AP that a four-fight $100 million deal he had planned to offer is now off the table."

Notice it says the FIRST round. If that's the case, this is all complete and utter bollocks, Tyson came out roaring in rounds 1-3, he was landing full blooded shots to the head and body, and those hooks to the body could never have been delivered with a ligament tear.

So this stuff about how he injured it in the third is bollocks, Tyson's camp are claiming he did it in the first.

hmmm, not sure what you are getting at here.
I've only seen the fight once, but from reading fight reports, my understanding is the incident happened in the 1st round.
BBC wrote: Tyson dominated the first round, rocking Williams with shots to the head, before apparently motioning towards his knee and grimacing.
So I don't understand why anyone is suggesting there was a 3rd round injury.

While I agree Tyson was throwing punches in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, I remember Danny was walking through them. He wasn't walking through them in the 1st though. Tyson appeared to plant his feet really well and hit Danny with some big shots in rds 2&3, but Danny didn't get rocked.
It's hard to see exactly how much Tyson got behind those punches, and how solid his stance was (well hard for me at least).
Seeing as how Danny got knocked sensless in rd1, but not in 2&3, I have to conclude that either Tyson was punching with a lot less power (Injury or Stamina related) or they replaced Williams chin with a new one after rd1.

And at what point in the 1st round did Tyson point at his knee and grimace, I never saw that happen. The only time Tyson motioned downward and grimaced was in the third round. So this story is shot full of holes.

Danny was hurt in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, just not as badly.

It is very common for a fighter to get badly rocked in the first round, and then walk through their opponents best shots after that.

Tommy Hearns had Hagler in trouble in the 1st round of their fight, Hagler's legs stiffened and he lurched into the ropes. In the 2nd and 3rd rounds, the same shots had no effect at all.

Using the fact that Danny took the shots without as much effect as in the 1st round is bull, he just got accustomed to Mike's power, and Tyson's level of fitness meant the snap came off of his shots.
