Tak said he was very strong, but he also said he felt weak as a kitten during their fight so it's hard to know what to think.

But, Eugenio was soundly beaten on points by Thomas McDonagh, who let's be honest, isn't exactly Atlas when it comes to physical strength and not Thomas Hearns in the power stakes either – then Montiero basically walks through and hammers beats two very strong guys in Farnell and Tak (although both gave viruses as reasons for losing other than just plainly not being as good as Montiero) so we'll have to see.

Surely any positive test will come out into the open if he took one before/after beating Farnell.

Very sad if he has cheated because he's come out of nowhere!... mmm, come out of nowhere!!!????

Not sure what to think really.

Manchester's Eugenio Monteiro could be stripped of his WBU middleweight title after failing a drugs test.
The Portugal-born fighter tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone, and an amphetamine.
Traces of the drugs were found in a urine sample he provided following his WBU title win over Anthony Farnell last month.
Monteiro returned a positive A sample and is now waiting on the results of a second - or B - sample, expected in the next few days.
If that is also positive, he is likely to be stripped of the WBU title - and could even face a life ban.
Monteiro, 33, has been automatically suspended as a result of the first positive test, and said: "I don't want to say anything until the B sample results come back, but all is not what it seems."
His trainer, Bob Shannon, said the news had come as a "total shock".
He added: "I hope for Monty's sake that the second test comes back negative but we will have to wait and see."
Farnell, who claims he fought Monteiro suffering from viral meningitis, said he would be demanding the WBU belt back if the second test proved positive.

then the fight should be made a NC. and farnell keeps his belt.

Farnell is still the best :P

Looks like the rumour was right.Farnell as viral meningitis before the fight and the oppoent as speed and nandralone. Even the farnell haters have got to say that isnt right
Or perhaps a few may say its a warren farnell con
But to be serious for a minuite if the B test is positive Farnell should have his title back.
ANYONE DISAGREE?

Maybe not give Farnell the title back, but a match up between Farnell and the #1 (or#2) condentor (if the WBU have such a thing) would suffice. This is how the IBF handled the Frans Botha drugs failure - I think it is probably the best way.

Is there an official ruling or have the boards all go different rules for this. Stevie Johnston wasn't stripped when he tested positive after the Billy Schwer fight

I cant understand why people believe farnell should be number 1 or 2 contender. It was his title and he got beat by a cheat!
No matter what happened between 2 other fighters if an athlete finishes second and the man above him wins by takeing drugs they reverse the decision even if its years later(athletics)
So what we say in boxing is that cheats prosper?
Boxing will always be a minority sport untill it comes clean and by that i mean in all mainstream sports this guy would be crucifed but there are still people in boxing who think the man hasnt done much wrong.
Wake up smell the coffee or boxing will fade into oblivion.

MF,

You have a point, what I am mearly stating is what normally happens. Look at it from the #1 contendors perspective. He is preparing for a match aswell for the title - should he be denied the chance (against whoever). I agree maybe the victim of a cheat should be awarded the belt, but then I think he should fight the #1 contendor in a alloted time limit.

Somebody tell Farnell to go for a proper belt. Why has he never challenged for a British title?

True. Monteiro's disgraced himself and our sport. It makes you wonder about his wins over Takaloo and Gilbert Eastman, too.
I'd like to see Farnell move on from the WBU title now (which, after all, he's held twice) and concentrate on securing a shot at the winner of Dann-Bendall for the vacant British title. On the form he showed against Lawrence Murphy, he's good enough to compete with those guys.

fornicating disgraceful.....

This is the one sport where you have to have ZERO TOLERANCE for drug treats..... the drugs allowed Monterio to perform at a higher level than he could have done naturally and consequently gave Farnell a beating which could have led to long term injuries.

I am sure he wasnt tested against Takaloo and Eastman as they werent tite fights

I totally agree but this applies to people like Jones also, we cant have one rule for one and another for another just because they are higher profile..
the only way you set thre standard and clear the sport of drugs cheats is to be fair and consistent accross the board.

Agree that there should be zero tolerance for Monteiro if he is found guilty. Certainly do not agree that Farnell should be re-awarded his title or should be given an automatic shot at the WBU title again. Farnell is a specialist at making excuses after he gets beat (Takaloo - blamed his camp; Groenwald - blamed the judges...in Manchester; Elcock - blamed his camp and new born baby!) Now he claims he had meningitis after this loss (read his quotes before the fight about he asked to be on the bill and how he would KO Monteiro). Farnell should be made to work his way back into contention and should fight the winner of Lockett and Elcock for the vacant title. What has he done to warrant another opportunity?

Eugenio Monteiro returned a second positive test for nandrolone - plus an amphetamine.
He will now almost certainly be stripped of his WBU middleweight title and could even face a life ban from the sport.

Maxium ban for steroids 3 years ,stimulants 6 months plus a fine in each case.
The board will prob ban him for a year and fine him a couple of grand.
The cost to Farnell and Taks careers irreparable.

One question. Dont BBBC follow the WADA rules when it comes to doping? (They just started during that in Denmark, so if it was here it would be a 2 year ban)
