Chris Webb paid Danny 50k for his greatest win

allegedly today revealed he is to begin legal proceedings against Chris Webb, promoter of the Danny Williams-Mike Tyson bout.
Warren, who manages Williams, is furious the 31-yearold Londoner wasn't paid his purse before going in the ring against Tyson at Louisville's Freedom Hall.
His representative in the stadium on Friday, Andy Ayling, almost pulled Williams from the fight as the Londoner was gloving up just half an hour before the opening bell.
With 17,272 people crammed inside the venue and 90 countries showing the clash on television that drastic course of action would have caused a sensation.
However, in a dramatic transatlantic telephone call, Warren told Ayling to secure as much cash from Webb as he could and Warren himself would guarantee Williams's purse of £150,000.
"I put a bet on Danny to win, so I'll get my money back," Warren said. "I always believed Danny could beat Tyson, that's why I made the fight."
On the night of the bout Ayling came away with £50,000 in cash, understood to be proceeds from the box office.
He said: "The promoter was telling me he had run out of money."
Webb, a former male stripper who has been under investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, admitted: "There was a little confusion on broadcast rights."
A periphery figure in American boxing before he persuaded Williams and Tyson to come to Louisville, Webb is no stranger to controversy.
He was scheduled to appear before a Louisville court today for allegedly violating a domestic violence order and threatening the mother of his child.
Webb has pleaded not guilty. He has previous convictions for the assault and "terroristic threatening" of one woman, and for menacing and harassing a second woman.

This promoter certainly lived down to all expectations then.

Remember there was a similar story over here - think it was a London show with a first time promoter in the 90's ( I believe John Mugabi was on the bill? ) and the promoter ended up doing a runner at the end of the night, with non of the boxers getting paid....

can"t remember the promoter of that show but it was a good one,at the brixton academy,my friend ross hale won,my other friend dean cooper lost to kirkland laing,good atmosphere there that night,mugabi boxed an "exhibition" with andy wright,nice spar for half a minute then they both bombed away,ref warned them both a couple of times then called it off
