Danny Williams Getting Very Mouthy All of a Sudden

Post by knockout artist »

He says, Ive KO'd one old man and I might as well do another (Holyfield).

First I want to prove the Tyson win was not a fluke, so I'm gonna beat him up worse than the first time.

Danny seems to have a short memory. He was slaughtered by Sanil Sam and was beaten by Michael Sprott.

Danny would do well to remember that the old man (Tyson) nearly knocked him out in the first round.

Danny did the business, but he's getting a bit mouthy which is unlike him.

I could see Tyson or Holyfield beating him in his next fight.

He's earmed it, it's about time Williams had self belief, I like it when a fighter is cocky, and it's something Williams could have done with earlier in his career, all this Mr Nice guy stuff hasn't helped him much.

Holyfield is shot to shit, I don't think he could beat Williams.

I'm not saying Holyfield would, but he could.

A lot depend on what DW turns up for the fight.

i'd rather see this confident Williams rather than the very modest quiet one. Williams has gone through this confidence change at the beginning of the year, and it has grown as a result of the Tyson victory. But he's been feeling more confident and relaxed since the 3rd Sprott fight, where that confidence turned to arrogance....lets hope he can control this confidence, because he could do very well for himself if he does.

If James Toney can say whatever he likes and still be praised around here for being such a character then I'm sure we can forgive Danny Williams for a few minor outbursts.

Good for Danny. He's walked the walk now so let him talk the talk. And Danny's a good talker. It's all good for British boxing.

To be honest his mouthiness has irritated me.he was'nt so brave when he pulled out of the Klitschko fight or when he was getting dusted by Sanil Sam.He talks about Tyson making excuses but what about him blaming his defeat against Sanil Sam on shingles.Classic.

I would like to see him in with James Toney or Vitlai next.I bet you he would get smoked.

He's just pulled off one of the greatest wins ever by a British fighter. Let him crow a little.

I think all those times we heard Danny say "I couldn't fight the way I wanted to for some reason" he was actually telling the truth.

So why did he perform so well this time? I think it could have a lot to do with being part of the biggest fight on the planet at that time. Everyone is watching. Absolutely no reason to lack motivation. Williams had never been in anything like that position before. I bet you if he went back to York Hall and faced Skelton he'd look terrible.

Did it come from his mouth or members of his team?

just like a lot of people are criticising Tyson for making excuses, he hasnt actually made an excuse... its is handlers.

Tyson (bar Holyfield 2) has always took defeat like a man.... never made excuses

Trouble is, Danny is so erratic you could easily imagine him getting outpointed by Sprott if they met again.

But onwards and upwards - he doesn't need to drop back to Brit title level again, unless something catastrophic happens in the near future.

Vitali's the one to shoot for - he'd be the underdog, but he might just have too much heart for the Ukranian giant.

I'd just like to see Holyfield retire. I really don't want to see him get beaten up any longer.

I agree with Williams. He deserves to let some steam off.

The amount of pressure he must have been under in the run up to that fight can only be acknowledged by people who have been in similar situations.

He deserves to call out anyone in the division now, and he is capable of beating any heavyweight in the world. His technical ability has always been there, and considering the confidence level he must have now hit, has put him right up there. Surprised me, as I thought he would freeze, but it just goes to show how unpredictable boxing can be.

He's obviously a fighter who thrives on confidence, it will bring the best out in him. :TU:

Williams is a good talker, he has a down to earth way of talking which is really endearing. (contrast to the crap Audley come out with).

But he's never been too shy to speak up. Remember him talking about Herbie Hyde on BBC?

I hate him, I want to Bash him up, I want to end his career.

etc.

I think maybe he's been asked to talk himself up a little though.

Come on guys, let's be honest. Who's at their best every day. When he's had a cack fight, Danny admits it straight away.

However, after the way he beat Mark Potter, with his arm hanging out of it's socket, beat Kali Meehan in great style in his first fight after the injury, and now after beating Mike Tyson at his own game, ie in a slugfest, I think we can cut the man some slack. Remember he kept getting up against Sam too and was pulled out (rightly) by his corner.

I've never understood how people have questioned his courage. Abillity to rise the occasion, yes, but bottle... no way!

I saw Danny training for the Sam fight at the Kronk St Pancras gym. It was three or so weeks to go, and he really looked out of sorts. Alarm bells were ringing in my head then, and if you are sparring the likes of Mike Simuwelu (yes, the same guy who lost to Lennox Lewis in 1990/1991) then you deserve all you get.
This time Dan was ready. Hard sparring, brutal fitness training with Jimmy Mac and he was buzzing. You could see that when he went toe-to-toe with Iron Mike without a care in the world.

Yeah but how shot to shit was George Foreman before fighting Michael Moorer?

Class (can) tell, and heavyweight mattchups like this would always be open.

I disagree.

I feel he was under less pressure than Tyson. But there is the massive fear element in fighting Tyson, which Williams coped well with and appears to have used to motivate himself.

Danny was not expected to win. If he lost, he still had big fights against Audley and Skelton, wheras Tyson may have nowhere to go and huge debts.

Tyson was literally fighting for his life.

I would argue that Foreman was less shot to shit. One thing people forget, is that Foreman had 10 years out of the ring, during which time he hadn't taken any beatings. Holyfield by contrast has been taking shots to the head consistently for the better part of 2 decades now, and has been involved in wars throughout his career.

Foreman was old, but not shot. Holyfield is shot, his brain has taken a pounding and his reflexes are gone.
