British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
If Afolabi does not get rated purely because he is a transplanted Brit, the same should apply to Duddy
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Jimmy Wilde has not fought since 1923 and has been dead for over 40 years. Ken Buchanan has not fought since 1982 and lost his last 4 fights. Neither deserves a place in my opinion.TheGoods wrote:Calzaghe at one eh? Then why no Jimmy Wilde? And Ken Buchanan is a shocking omission.
Joe Calzaghe last fought just under 6 months ago. If he announced his return to professional boxing tomorrow he would still be considered one of the World's top 5 P4P boxers.
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Duddy was ranked at number 14 last month, so I thought to drop him out of the rankings completely would be too much. I decided not to drop him below Rees, as Rees is the most inactive fighter in the rankings having not fought in over a year.SOUTHPAW wrote:John Duddy should not be in the top 30
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
He is not in the rankings.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Ola Afolabi?
where?
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
You haven't explaine why Duddyis eligible and Afolabi isn't?
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
As I have said before, beating someone good twice is better than beating them once, especially if he beats him more convincingly the second time.twenty six wrote:You want Lindsay to beat Derry Matthews to move up - having already ko'd him ?
WTF ?

That is what I was originally going to do, but I thought that Murray deserved his place more than Appleby, so I dropped Appleby out of the list instead of Murray.alexpaterson wrote:I dont think Appelby should be out of the top 30 he was 24th and had a bad night i would have him about 28th or 29th
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Why is Dunne behind Woods and Witter? Dunne holds half of a world championship in the deepest division in boxing, while neither of them have done much of note lately. Also, why is Enzo Maccarinelli ahead of Rogan and Arthur? The man should barely make the top 30, never mind the top 15.
One more thing. Drop Calzaghe. He's retired. If he makes a comeback, rank him #1 again, but for now, leave him out.

Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Just one thing regarding Dunne, he was born in the Republic Of Ireland so he can't compete for the British title so you can't really rank him in a British P4P list, Lindsay and Rogan yes because they are eligible for British title fights.
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Napa ahead of Macklin? Gavin Rees still in there? John Murray only #30?
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
His best win is against Oakey, but Oakey only had about a weeks notice. His proposed fight against McIntosh would very likely get him a place in the top 30 if he wins.gunners9191 wrote:i dont know why nathan cleverly aint in the top 30,
Pretty much. I don't rate beating these unknown Africans as much as some other people do.Coco wrote:He has only fought unknown Africans
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Duddy has fought on three domestic shows. He also represented Ireland as an amateur and was an Irish amateur champion.Coco wrote:So why is Duddy on there?
Did Afolabi represent Britain as an amateur?
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
I feel that it is a different situation.Coco wrote:If Afolabi does not get rated purely because he is a transplanted Brit, the same should apply to Duddy
I try to answer posts in order. That is why I hadn't explained my stance on the subject before that point.Coco wrote:You haven't explaine why Duddyis eligible and Afolabi isn't?

Horse is my favourite poster of all time, for that statement alone.Horse wrote:Jimmy Wilde has not fought since 1923 and has been dead for over 40 years. I can only assume that his dinner is served to him at 6pm every night, via a tray, shoved under his reinforced steel door.

I believe imagining hypothetical scenarios is an acceptable part of deciding a fighters P4P worth. "If Nicky Cook and Ian Napa were in the same weight division: Who would be ranked higher?" et cetera.Asterix wrote:Rankings should not be based on ifs.Horse wrote:Joe Calzaghe last fought just under 6 months ago. Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Well that's the whole point of the pound for pound concept. But you don't go, "if Naseem Hamed came back at featherweight, where would he be? 14th, OK, I'll rank him now, even though he's retired and will probably never fight again."Horse wrote:I believe imagining hypothetical scenarios is an acceptable part of deciding a fighters P4P worth. Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Woods and Witter proved themselves against world class opposition multiple times. Dunne has only done it once. If he can make a defence of his title then he will probably overtake them, unless Witter or Woods do something impressive in that period of time, like win a world title.hitman09 wrote:Why is Dunne behind Woods and Witter? Martin Rogan has only just entered the list and I would rather he proved his ability a bit more before putting him so close to a top 10 ranking. Maccarinelli has fought twice since Arthur's last fight, so I preferred to keep the active fighter above the inactive fighter, due to previous problems I have had with inactive fighters in the past.hitman09 wrote:Also, why is Enzo Maccarinelli ahead of Rogan and Arthur? What happens if I take him out? There will just be another decent domestic fighter that enters at the bottom of the rankings to replace him. If he doesn't fight for a significant period of time then I will take him out.hitman09 wrote:One more thing. Drop Calzaghe. He's retired. Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
In my eyes if a fighter announces his retirement then he should be scrapped from all P4P lists until he successfully makes a comeback.
Like Mayweather - he won't re-enter my P4P global list until he actually fights again.
I think this should be adopted to your list, Horse.
But great list.

Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
I decided to start ranking all Irish fighters, 1 year and 8 months ago, to ease confusion about which Irish boxers should be eligible for the list or not.banjo wrote:Just one thing regarding Dunne, he was born in the Republic Of Ireland so he can't compete for the British title so you can't really rank him in a British P4P list, Lindsay and Rogan yes because they are eligible for British title fights.
Re: British Top 30 P4P May 2009
Napa won the Lonsdale belt outright and was the European champion until his last fight. Macklin has only just won the British title and has not proven as much as Napa.iwz678 wrote:Napa ahead of Macklin? Gavin Rees still in there? John Murray only #30?
Rees has been inactive and he will likely fall out of the list in the next 6 months if he doesn't fight. Gavin Rees was scheduled to fight today, but the fight card has been moved to the 24th May, that should sort out the Rees problem.
Murray's best wins are against Meager and McAllister, both decent wins but nothing special. Murray isn't staying active enough to maintain, and build on, his place in the list. Hopefully, the Thaxton fight happens and sorts his situation out.

What the F&&K ???Horse wrote:(4.) Carl Froch
4. (3.) David Haye
Haye has unified Cruiserweight division, moved up and beat a top ten fighter. Even if Haye loses to Wlad i'd have him safely above Froch.
Froch has ONE world title fight and beats a guy who's hardly world class, then luckily beats a blown up middleweight after being outclassed for the first 35 minutes and 46 seconds !
