- Frazier mid round KO of Mr. E. H. Field after fireworks. See Frazier/Quarry for how that works.chiricahua wrote:How do you see this fight?
Poor boy barely got past past Frazier lite, Qawi, the first time around.

Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
I see Frazier laying Holyfield in 7 rounds with his huge left hook
Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
holyfield was in his 12th pro fight when he faced qawi, a hall of famer. holyfield had one of the best chins in the history of boxing. i love frazier but prime for prime i'll go with a holyfield decision. see holyfield/tyson for how that works.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote:- Frazier mid round KO of Mr. E. Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
Frazier was very much a different and much superior fighter to the Tyson Evander beat.
I like Holyfield but he gets way too much to survive a prime Frazier.

Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
Frazier by razor-thin decision over twelve, & he stops a fading Holyfield (who falls on work-rate) over fifteen, perhaps around the thirteenth or fourteenth stanza. Both men made to work extremely hard, but Frazier has the conditioning the Heavyweight Holyfield ultimately lacked.
Brutal, enthralling battle.

Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
Thinking about the Bonavena Frazier fights gives me pause to consider that this fight WOULD go the full distance. A few years ago I'd call this one for Frazier, and I still would, but instead of UD..I now think it would end in a SD still in Frazier's favor. I know Bonavena and Evander do not fight in a similar fashion but they both are helatiously durable. They both would "lose" the fight....no one really wins a fight like the one i imagine they would have.

A) THe first Bonavena fight in which Joe was knocked down was Frazier's 11th professional fightBoxBuzz wrote:Thinking about the Bonavena Frazier fights gives me pause to consider that this fight WOULD go the full distance. B) Bonavena was a harder puncher than Holyfield
Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
So Holy's fight with Qawi counts, but Fraziers with Ringo doesnt ?
How do you figure that Bonavena hist harder that Holy?
I think Holy's fight with Cooper is the best indication as to how this
plays out.
Frazier has a very nice style that meshes well with Holy's to make
for an entertaining fight.
In all honestybest for best this is really a coin flip prediction fight.
Their is not clear cut favourite, just personal bias or preferences.
Thats great, but have some good opinions and reasoning for your
'predictions'.
While a stoppage is on the cards, I am more partial to a very close
decision going in either direction for both guys. Say they met for
Frazier around 1969-71 and Holyfield 1990-91. We got ourselves
a fight.
I see a SD win with the fans and boxing in general demanding a
rematch.
Sorry to sit on the fence on this one, I have every Holy fight and nearly
every Frazier fight and have watched all their bouts a lot, hence my
reluctance to jump into one camp.

Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
How to tell Oscar was a harder puncher? Just look at their fights, and know Oscar's respect as a guy who could take top guys out with his left hook. Holyfield's left hook was good but he practically had to throw the kitchen sink and living room at guys before they caved in. Bonavena was a stronger and harder hitting guy but less precise than Holyfield and not as quick.Robinson wrote:So Holy's fight with Qawi counts, but Fraziers with Ringo doesnt ?

I never brought up the Qawi fight, although Qawi is a much better comparison to Frazier than Bonavena is to Holyfield. Just look at the Cooper or Dokes fights showing guys bothering Evander with their inside fighting ability and pressure.
On the other hand, Frazier never struggled with a standard boxer-puncher like Holyfield. Quarry had everything Holyfield had and was pulverized in both fights. It would be a typical Holyfield where he'd look good the first 2-3 rounds doing his in-out out style and using foot movement, get tagged hard, and then go into a slugging match, which he'll lose vs Frazier. Joe is not Alex Stewart or Bert Cooper.
Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
I think Frazier is too good an inside technician, and as good a boxer as Holy was, I don't think it was good enough to keep Frazier at bay.
I lean toward Frazier by decision or late stoppage.

Frazier by decision in a furious fight in which he floors Holyfield once, maybe twice (if he's lucky
DD ).

I can't believe all the KO picks here. I'd give a slight egde to Holyfield over 12, and the same edge to Joe over 15.

Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
Frazier should win a pretty clear UD. Holyfield was great, it would be a tough fight, Holyfield does not get stopped in my opinion, but Joe was the better fighter.
Re: Joe Frazier vs Evander Holyfield
this is my fav all time fight
it would be a total war but i feel frazier would win by a close decision 8-6-1

one things for sure......it would be a very lucky break for whoever fought either of these men in their next outing.

I think Holyfield - Quarry is an incorrect comparison.dempseyfire wrote:How to tell Oscar was a harder puncher? Can I ask what Bonavena fights you have that you watched that makes you
think he has more power ?
I have every Holy fight and I have a good sized collection on Bonavena's and
I must say I do not draw the conclusion that Bonavena had such a hard shot,
he hit hard and thumped lesser men out but I am not convinced he is that great
a power puncher. He did get a lot of stoppages but not against the guys he
needed to. What top guys did Bonavena take out with his left hook ?
But if you say so.
I have said I do not think this is an easy fight for either guy. This is a superb
marriage of two guys in one of the better hypotheticals of greats in my
opinion. You are the one who is convinced that Holyfield is going to be steam
rolled. I can see either mans hand being raised after a tough fight.

DF
What top ten guys did Bonavena stop ? Or upper tier fighters ?
Or are you basing his power on the knock down of Frazier?
Some of Holy's better stoppage wins I can think of are in chronology..
Tillman, Occasio, Qawi, Delon, Tillis, Thomas, Dokes, Rodrigues,
Stewart, Douglas, Cooper,Tyson, Moorer, hecck even Czyz...

I agree. It will see both these guys pretty well spent and drained.BoxBuzz wrote:one things for sure......it would be a very lucky break for whoever fought either of these men in their next outing.
Both would have earned a good rest or easy fight there after.
