Kirkland Laing!!??

Post by Boxingmad »

Any news on old Kirk? Saw last year's profile on him with Buncy, then heard he'd had a nasty fall and was in hospital.

Is he better? Has he sorted himself out?

P.S. Which of his fights would be worth watching in terms of his skill/elusiveness where he really manhandled his opponent?

He's living with family in Nottingham. That's about all we know. Refuses to do interviews or have any photos taken.
In terms of his fights, he peaked in the late 80's in my opinion. He played with the likes of Sylvester Mittee, George Collins, Rocky Kelly and Trevor Smith - and won the European title with a crushing second-round knockout of Antoine Fernandez in May 1990. It's incredible how Mickey Duff was never able to secure him a world title shot.
The two fights he had with Colin Jones are also well worth watching. Both times Laing virtually outlassed Jones till he got caught in the ninth.

I heard he was on Trisha as just 'Kirk' discussing some topic with his wife and he wasn't even name checked - he was just this guy called Kirk.

Again this is second hand.

You are the only man who has ever given me reason enough to watch Trisha. "Bogle, bogle, bogle just say rice and pea!" :D

Mind you, 'Kirk' is certainly fucked up enough to warrant a slot on the showcase of the slum.

The Trisha apparence was before his accident, he was known as Kirk and Trisha said he's a boxer (notice, sounded like he was active) he even tapped the hands (like working the pads) of one of those producers beofre a commercial break.

I think he was there cause he wanted his missus to lose weight, it wasn't anything to do with his problems and generally he had a good reception all through.

Trisha is the students choice of top crumpet (only J/K) but most students are addicts. I'm not but did see that episode (mainly because I wasn't certain if it was Laing and wanted to find out). Now this is sad of me, but I actually posted on the Trisha website asking if Kirk was Laing, but the thread got deleted.
