Holyfield TKO11. Cards read 7-3, 7-2-1, 7-3 for Holyfield at the time of the stoppage. Holyfield did just about everything better in there. He would brawl like crazy against an opponent as mean-spirited as Bonavena, & that would be Holyfield's only way to lose a round or two throughout this fight. Eventually, punch volume & combinations are the difference, & bring Bonavena down.
Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
And yet Frazier could not accomplish that feat. Bonavena was pretty rugged.

Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
Ali was the only man who koed Bonavena in 15 rounds.
So i say that Holyfield wins by UD.

Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
He spent much of his return with Frazier clammed up, attempting to survive & spoil. In their earlier meeting, that was a very green Frazier, not on the same level as a peak Holyfield. I think Bonavena fights, & fights damn hard, when he realises Holyfield doesn't have special power, but takes too many shots down the stretch.BoxBuzz wrote:And yet Frazier could not accomplish that feat. Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
Just watched a few Ringo fights. Tough, square stanced battle ship
of a by gone era. Worked himself to a good level in competition,
always seemed to be in decent shape.
I see a peak Holyfield stopping him courtesy of a compassionate
Ref, around the 10th. Their are some game rounds, but for the
most part at most ranges Holy wins with speed and accuracy
while Bonavena does his best to slug himself ahead on points.
Entertaining all the same, but a clear win for Holy at most stages.

Oscar a natural 200 lb strong man, not a juiced lightheavy. Mr. E. H. Field prone to brawling where Oscar was King. Oscar would break Mr. Field across his knee.
Put Oscar on Mr. Field's vitamins, and he'd pull Mr. Field apart like a Thanksgiving Turkey and feed him to the homeless.
Please, need to find a better match for Mr. Field if you want to gild his lily.
Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
Alot of great athletes take vitamins and so on. So what ?
You know steroids in boxing and the likes is not a recent
thing ? Imagine how many athletes in the sport were using
before the banning of such 'vitamins' around 1988.
In any case, Bonavena, tell me about his good stoppage wins
over top ranked fighters ?
Tell me of the examples of how his power is superior to that
of Holyfields ?
Regards to Evanders weight, he is a bigger man than Frazier,
Frazier is under modern standards a CW. Regardless of how you
look at it. Holy would have been a HW from the get go had the
CW div not existed when he turned pro...or jr heavyweight.
But Brougton, your contiuning dislike for Holyfield is your priority
it just makes discussing boxing with you a tad hard as you have
an absolute opinion and stance.

Almost as much nonsense as in that thread where you claimed Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson fought a scheduled 10 rounder up in Canada.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote:- Indeed, nonsense seems to prevail in this thread.BoxBuzz wrote:And yet Frazier could not accomplish that feat. Nah, only joking, numpty. THAT thread will live on as the biggest pile of stinking elephant excrement ever.
This picture sums up THAT thread and what happened to the fellow who started it.

No, he would have been a light heavyweight. Weighing in the 170s at 23 years old, whereas Frazier was a natural heavyweight trained down to 203 at 21 years old. Frazier did not need months of weights and shakes to get up over 200 lbs.Robinson wrote:

That said, I favor Holyfield here, but by a hard fought and close decision, no knockout. Bonavena had an iron chin, only stopped by a left hook from nowhere in the 15th when he was already badly fatigued.
Looking at Bonavena beating the very Holyfield-esque Leotis Martin gets me thinking of a fantasy Martin-Holyfield fight . . now that would've been one hell of a scrap.
Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
Its funny you should mention Leotis Martin. The other night
I was watching some snippets of him and thought along similar
lines.
I was trying to imagine how he would have fared against the
CW's of the early days. The Holyfield opponents...DeLeon, Qawi,
Occasio, Tillman. I think he would mix it up well in that lot.

- Sweet Mother of all that is Moe, Larry, and Curly, when did turning pro fighting at or below the LH limit constitute being a bigger man than a legit 200lb heavy?Robinson wrote: Bonavena, tell me about his good stoppage wins

He ain't bigger than Frazier, but in the World According to Mr. Field's Vitamins, he's bigger than Niko now. He faded down the stretch against a bloating, aging Qawi the first fight, Foreman, and Holmes, and was hurt badly against Cooper and Foreman. This was Mr. Field at his best in his first run with the title.
The Wild Bull of the Pampas Oscar that showed up in his unrefined state and knocked Joe Frazier down twice would've knocked Mr. E. H. Field down and kept him there.
You poor gents ain't yet got the clue: I could care less about Mr. Field. He's just a tool I use to whack his deluded supporters with. Bigger man, my Moe, Larry & Curly....whooop, whoooop, whoooooop, whoooooooooop!!!!!!
Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
...as a sort of "aside" to that statement, I noticed that Ricky Hatton claimed a few days ago that he was the bigger man....and though he is taller, I also noticed that the tale of the tape seemed to indicate that Manny was bigger in most of the catagories that one might use as a benchmark. I'm thinking Manny will probably have no problem in some of the bigger weight classes.

I know it's just low grunting noises to me and you.
But for him and his ilk, it passes as witty reparte.
And don't forget he discovered that Jack Dempsey once fought Jack Johnson in a bar up in Big Lonely. He doesn't seem to want to talk about it anymore though...

It disturbs me that much that I have
to share it.
Does that make sense?

Re: Oscar Bonavena vs Evander Holyfield
Evander would win this by a unanimous 12 round decision...in my opinion.
