Hatton was no-where near pound for pound NO 1

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

At his peak Hatton was a top ten pound for pound fighter.

He fought the pound for pound NO1 in Mayweather and got taken out fair and sqaure. But people made excuse for Hatton and said that the referee was against him etc, and that in a rematch it could be different.

Despite being knocked out convincingly by Mayweather it still didnt humble him and he was still banging on about Mayweather rematches and becoming pound for pound NO 1.

Hatton was World Class - but he has never looked like a pound for pound NO 1.

Thank God Manny Pac destroyed him and put him in his place once and for all.

If Hatton had won then we would never heard the end of this "pound for pound king" bollocks.

Manny Pac was the true down to earth guy in this fight - humble throughout - he made modest claims of "doing his best" and "hope to give a good performance"

It was Hatton who was full of bollocks saying how he could beat Manny Pac and become "pound for pound champion"

Despite being portrayed as a down to earth guy - Hatton who is a regular guy in some ways - is also a ego maniac - who was not humbled by the Mayweather defeat - and still talking bollocks as always.

Manny Pac done his talking in the ring with his fists and exposed Hatton in this fight as anything but "pound for pound king"

Thank God - the best man won - the true down to earth guy -

Manny Pac I salute you as a great Champion !!!!!!

I can't believe I paid £15 to watch that fight only for Sky to go down after the Moore fight effing robbing bastards :x

As for the fight itself, well at least Ricky put his balls on the line there and took the opportunity, if he never he'd be sat on his ass 10 years down the line wondering "what if?" at least he knows now.

Yeh agreed, at least he knows now, and the nature of this defeat should tell him a lot more than the Mayweather defeat, in terms of the fact he had a lot of excuses for the Mayweather fight in his mind, as if he has told himself really he wasn't to blame instead he was a victim of circumstances. The Pacman KO should tell him he really ISN'T P4P material, but I have to say fair play to the guy for having usuch ambition and living the dream.

Does make me laugh people talking about Hatton avoding people when he's been done by Mayweather Jnr and Pacquio in the last 18 months.

So he might have lost and comprehensively but at least he had a go which I thought was the main premise of people's argument of him being no good.

In my eyes he couldn't win with many. People would probably put Mailliwhathisface on the list of obscure champions he 'avoided' if he hadnt' fought him for example.

The people calling Hatton to lose almost every fight were always going to get it right one day because it happens to (almost) all fighters.

When the dust settles and you back at his career he acheived far more than you thought he would, certainly acheived more than I thought he would and I thought he was half decent.

I remember losing a lot of money and dignity to friends when I was telling them Hatton would be crushed in 3 against Tszyu

I like Ricky Hatton and I'm sure he will be remembered fondly as an all-action scrapper (although his hit and hold tactics take the shine away from some of his fights), if not an all time great.

However, for all the talk of him being the best LWW fighter in the world since his victory over Kosta Tszyu, we now know that there was a fighter campaigning - for the most part - at SFW who was vastly superior.

Please retitre, Ricky.
