Lets give Pacquiao his due
So far the majority of the comments on here have been aimed at Hatton. This is unsurprising as it is a British forum. However, I think no matter if you think Hatton is shot since Tszyu, if him leaving Warren affected him, if Ray Hatton is an idiot, Billy Graham should not have been sacked etc etc etc.
Why the excuses, lets just say WOW - the was mighty mighty impressive Manny Pacquiao.
Its just a shame that he doesn't seem to get the credit from his two biggest wins. The lack of credit for the DLH fight was somewhat justified, but it was punch perfect. This was, sorry I think Pacquiao is just too damn good for Ricky... any Ricky, at any time.

Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
Pacman is 1 of the greatest of all times. No ones ever gone 112-140lbs before, I'm not sure many have gone up in weight to destroy a linear champ so fast, especially when it makes him a 6 weight champ, amazing. I really don't think he gets his due for what he did to DLH either, Oscar wasnt as far gone as they're saying imo.
I reckon Pacman beats the slower Cotto too, Berto is probably too open for him, Mayweather will likely outbox him, Mosley would probably be too big for him, Williams and Clottey both too big really. Pity there aren't many big fights for him at 140
Looks like Mayweather-Pacquaio and I reckon it'll be a 144 or 142 catch weight, Roach is going to make FMJ come down

Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
yeah quality fighter...for some reason I get an image of him in my head getting bamboo shoots whacked over his legs, even though that would just be plain fckin pointless.
Like that guy in the van damme flick kicking the concrete posts to harden his legs up. I just think he is one tough, unbreakable little fcker.
Forget your inner city council estates, that's like a fckin cake walk to the poverty in a lot of the Philippines.
I've said on other threads I was surprised this fight even came off cos I never really saw it as a 2 sided contest tbh.
Also , on the photos thread that got locked, I though it was a tad ironic to see Ricky laid out over another advertising logo...after all that advertising of the various energy products etc.. in the past.
I am a bit alarmed at Spud's response personally.....who was upset or alarmed or whatever phrase he used at seeing a BRITISH fighter laid in out that state......
My view is that all them Yanks , Pakistanis , Australians , Philippinos etc..etc.. are all some mothers' kids as well. Just my view.

Utterly fantastic fighter. Surprised how he carried such power up.
Hatton was good, but Pacman is another level altogether.

Pacman destroyed him, easy fight.
Hatton took the kind of risk that keeps Boxing alive. So what he come up short, it took massive bollocks to even face such a beast as Pacman.
It's easy looking on, but this isn't the current scene, credit where it's due.
Pacman-Brilliant
Hatton-Tip my hat, but come up short against the best, as many thought he would. Still fought them though didn't he? Very few Brits can say the same.
Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
People go on about Hatton being humble, I don't think I've seen a more humble or friendly guy than Manny yet this guy fights like the devil. Grew up in dire poverty and had to fight his way out of it, he got nothing handed to him. He's already a legend, anything else he achieves is a bonus.

If it was that easy, why didn't you get in the ring and do what he did Bertie Fvcking Big Bollocks?search wrote:hatton fought nothng but bums and old men. even tszyu was 36 and had fought 3 rounds in two years and coming off career ending surgery. he was on his last legs. Hatton always had the one style and could never adjust or deal with a smart boxer. Collazo could have KOd him and stopped the charade a long time ago. floyd treated him like a punch bag. lazcano might have had him if the ref didn't give hatton recovery time. i could go on here.
who has hatton beat? an old tszyu, thats it basically. the rest are not worth mentioning.
Pacman beat an old Oscar and a pretty average CONJOB in Hatton. Mark my words, Hatton would have been easily beaten by Mitchell, Judah, Corley and Witter.
The biggest CONJOB in British boxing history and I for one am glad its over. Did you hear the sh*te he was talking about pound for pound last week too? i mean, come on.
Full of shit. Simple as.
Tszyu, Urango, Collazo, Mallignaggi were all top vicotries and match up aganst any other British Fighter of the past 20 years in terms of wins.
He fought the best at the end of the day, so what he got smashed. WHat would have happened had Calzaghe fought Jones in his prime? He would have been fvcking laid out like Hatton was like last night.

Listen to Manny beng interviewed my Larry 'Drunken Master Piss arse' Merchant.
He said the fight was 'easy' and he should know!
For £20M I would fight Wlad!
Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
I'm sure you would DG. Now, if you can just beat a series of decent enough contenders, topple an ageing, but still respected champion, build a following in the tens of thousands, make a name for yourself across the atlantic, beat a few more decent names, and play the media well enough, you could get the chance.
FFS, it's not like the big money matches fell into Hatton's lap, he worked hard to put himself in that position. Why does the fact that Hatton had made himself a big-name star, capable of earning huge money diminish the fact that he did fight the best that was out there? Should he have asked for less money against PBF and Pacman? Of course not.

In answer to the thread title - yep definitely you have to give Pacman his dues - absolutely!!!
I honestly thought there was no one absolutely no one who could give PBF a real fight - Pacman could keep him busy all night long.
I think PBF is a favourite still but things are narrowing!!!

Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
I cannot believe I am typing this, but it is something I thought of before the DLH vs Pacquiao fight, and certainly comfirmed in that bout (I haven't seen the Hatton fight yet, have the fight lined up for me when I am home from my break)..... but I struggle to see how Floyd beats Manny. I really do. I think Manny is too quick for Floyd, DLH's speed and work rate had Floyd in all sorts of problems, not physically but on the cards. Manny isn't as strong or as technically as good as DLH at 154.... but he is faster and he has a better engine.
I think he outworks Floyd, looks silly at times, but sneaks too many rounds on work rate. I don't think Floyd has the power to trouble Pacquiao or the work rate to win the rounds.

Floyd has an immense amount of skills - he is also has very quick hands as well as footwork that would keep him out of the way of the really big shots the Pacman would throw!!
Whilst the ODH fight and now the Hatton fights are really good results for Pacman - I honestly cannot see him getting things all his own way with PBF.
Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
I think the Pacman of last night beats the PBF that turned up against DLH.
Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
I just remember a the Hatton vs Mayweather 24/7 documentary and Oscar talking to Ricky, and describing the way to beat Floyd and he actually said the words its not hard to figure out and even "its easy".
Whilst Floyd made DLH look silly at times with his defensive work, DLH through his superior (compared to Ricky) skill, jab, workrate and speed dominated the cards early on. Pacquiao will sustain it for 12 rounds. Floyd has a habit of looking amazing defencively, but not "making them pay" with offensive work, and he came within a whisker of losing to DLH. Now, an important factor to consider is weight..... was Mayweather not at his best vs DLH at 154.
Also, look at the two's last opponents, against the same two fighters.... massive difference in their results. Okay, DLH certainly wasn't the same fighter at 147, but Ricky was back at his best weight.

That I agree with, and a better way of putting my argument - I would like to know if it was DLH's speed and workrate that troubled Mayweather, or was it the 154 lbs weight limit.jBacca wrote:I think the Pacman of last night beats the PBF that turned up against DLH.

Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
Pacquiao was great, no doubt there.
But I am getting somewhat disturbed by the canonising of Manny that's started to go on here, because Hatton ran straight in to him with his head static & hands down by his nipples. Ricky essentially offered him first, second & thirds at twatting him on the chin. It was like hitting a heavy bag.
People are running around screaming that because David Diaz lasted seven more rounds before getting flattened, Pac has improved vastly in the last ten months. This I feel is patently ridiculous. The reason Diaz lasted that much longer was that he had his hands up & his chin down & didn't recklessly storm after Pac-man looking to "prove" something from the opening bell.
I'll get in now -- PBF will beat Manny, & I'd favour JMM again (or again again, if you prefer) to nick their next meeting on points. Great fighter & typically great performance but I saw absolutely nothing new from him.

Yep, there's no doubt about it Pacman is simply astonishing and he showed Ricky Hatton exactly why on Saturday.
Don't get me wrong I'm a big Hatton supporter and was genuinely shaken by what happened to him but realitically he was just caught in the path of the tornado. Nothing to be ashamed of and it certainly doesn't alter the fact that I think he is a cracking fighter himeslf.

Re: Lets give Pacquiao his due
Manny is a classy fighter, no doubt, but (and I hate to say this and there's no bias here) Oscar was over the hill when he fought him and Hatton was a bit done too. Take nothing away from Manny was a great achievement moving up to beat bigger guys, but it's not like he beat really top guys at those weights (despite Ricky being the LWW champ). Manny V PBF (who I'll remind you is already considered past his peak by many) will be a different story and should be a cracking fight.
So, in conclusion, Manny is brilliant and it is a fantastic achievement, but he's been kind of fortunate to fight those two larger guys at that point in their respective careers.
Roll on Manny V PBF.

Any 13/14 that can 'SWITCH ME OFF' is a bad dude, I suggest you harness that chaps energy to something that would benefit them rather thsn you putting him in a position that might end his career befoire it has started.
The point is, Hatton is not elite and thats all there is to it.
