was hatton just hype, froche get props, haye all the way?

Post by junior pepa seed »

I said to my mates hatton would lose but never saw it coming that quick....hatton peaked 2 years ago he beat castillo and kosta but was a meal ticket for years. Was the hype why so many believed in hatton or was it just the brit spirit? I would have been sick as a dog to go out there and watch that.
The press love hatton he has the charm but did he ever have the skills to be p4p best in world?
I hope froch starts gettin the coverage he deserves....he has already stuck two fingers up to joe by having 2 classic fights that joe wanted but never had in his career...lacey you say...nah it was so one sided....hopkins nah that was a bore fest great result but not same league as frochie taylor or froch pascal.
He shouldn't chase joe there's better fights out there.
I hope haye can do it he will shake the heavy weight div up as its a nasty car crash of shite at the minute.
The brits are coming and mr kevin mitchell will be wearing a strap soon with out a doubt.....but is it time for the hitman to quit or did he just get beat by 2 great fighters.? I think he will carry on sadly....junior witter must be lovin it.

i agree he shouldn't chase Joe as he's made his point plu his focus should be on himslf now.

Jeff Lacy's credentials shouldn't be detracted from due to hindsight...50% of this forum I bet, although I wasn't on it at the time, would have been expecting to see Joe get Kayoed, just cos he took him to school and effectively ended his career, doesn't mean it wasn't a good win. It was a brilliant win.

And Hatton can lead with his face etc...but boxing requires a mix of attributes, so while he didn't possess the skill of a DLH or a Mayweather, he nevertheless had a hell of a lot of strength and ability at 140lbs and sat at the top of that tree for a couple of years.

I like Froch and hope he gets some good fights. I'm not as keen on Haye cos what I see in the ring doesn't seem to match up with the way some people rave about him like he was the second coming of Ali. But I still think he's a good fighter with a very admirable outlook when it comes to taking risk, so good on him.

As for Hatton - and obviously being a lifelong fan of a big city football fan is a massive help - but NO British fighter has ever, or will ever, take that many fans to America, FACT.....I take my hat off to him.

True hatton had an army and yeah he had an unreal level of support and no fighter may never have that support again.
Lacy was a great win...but what I ment was it was not a classic back n forth war like the cobras last two fights the kind of fight joe wanted. But joe did take him to school, gave him detention and then gave him home work too.

The Carl Froch that started so hesitantly and looked like he had steel girders attached to his legs....how do you think that THAT Carl Froch, or okay that's unfair, say Froch in general.....would have got on against Lacy....the Lacy BEFORE he got done by Calzaghe, the Lacy that had Rob Reid down 4 times.
That would have been a good fight.
Calzaghe and Froch don't have anything like the same styles, Calzaghe had Lacy worked out light years before it got near a ring.

I accept your point that Calzaghe had relatively few "classics", you are right on the money....but whereas a lesser fighter might have had classics, Calzaghe was far too good for a lot of them to be anything like a classic.

That Brewer or the other black fella, the one who decked Joe in a round or 2, that could have been a see-saw battle but Joe got up an stopped him...and that was a flush knockdown very early on in a fight..No mean feat to get up and win the following round!

I also think Joe gets to much stick for the scrappy Bika fight, when in truth Bika was big, strong, physically very fit and "game" and also was a very dirty fighter in that fight. It was a good win in my book, it's no crime that he didn't take him apart like Lacy.

Kessler was a brilliant win against a YOUNGER STRONGER, technically very good fighter.......most people are of the opinion however that Kessler would hammer Froch.

I like Froch, don't get me wrong, big fan of his and I went to see him in person versus Tatevosyan, KO2....he was great that night, can cut the ring off in 2 strides and really bang the shots in, great chin and heart too.

Hatton did perhaps reach his peak a few years back, but he stepped up in class when he fought Mayweather and that defeat affected him pyscholigically, as it was his first defeat and the first time he had been knocked out. At that moment Hatton knew for sure, that he was'nt as good as he thought and thing like that stay with a fighter, in much the same way that the Douglas defeat stayed with Tyson. Hatton was a very good fighter, who could mix at world level, but he stepped up in class against Mayweather and Pacquaio and was found wanting, regardless of tactics and so, no, he was'nt or should'nt be classed in the same light, but that does'nt diminish his fights against Tszyu or Casstillo. Froch is a pretty ordinary fighter, who relies on his power and granite chin. He has some bad weaknesses and it's only a matter of time before he gets sparked out. The saving grace for Carl, is that there is only Kessler out there at super-middleweight, who is easily a better fighter, because i feel that green and Bute are winnable fights for Carl, but with his style, he will come a cropper very soon and in all fairness, Froch was totally out-classed by Taylor, before the big punch, Taylor's stamina and 12th round naivety saved the day. Haye, in all reality, has a 50 - 50 chance of beating Klitschko, it all depends who lands first, because whilst i can see Klitschkp surviving a Haye bomb, i can't see Haye surviving a Klitschko bomb. Still undecided about Mitchell, i don't think he has world class attributes, thought that's not to say that he can't win a world title, aka, Amir Khan - Kotelnik.

Froch looked like he was gonna puke on way to ring and he looked so stiff untill the 7th round even then he wasn't fluent like he can be.
I agree.his worse habbit is that left hand being down by his nuts all the time!
Good point about haye....I would love for him to beat klitchy and I hope he don't get hit by that big s o b or it could be night night.
Dissagree with you about kevin mitchell I get the feeling he is special..got that tyson type scowl when in the ring shark like...he is tough got grit and can box...still a youngster too think he will go far follwed his career from day one, I do think he should get another trainer tho as I don't know how far cook can take him....just my view
