Pacquaio vs Mayweather - Who wins and why ?

This fight is likely to happen within the next 6 to 12 months, assuming that Mayweather beats Marquez, which i definately see happening. I think that Mayweather would prevail over Pacquaio, because he has good defensive skills and has the attributes to pick off Pacquaio as he comes forward, wear him down and either stop him late on or get a victory by unanimous decision. As daft as it sounds, Pacqauio has yet to fight a guy at the higher weight class that could trouble him. Diaz was a decent to good fighter, who was made for Pacquiao style wise, as was the case with Hatton and De La Hoya was just plain old and shot. So i think that Mayweather offers the first true test to Pacquaio, at the higher weight classes, assuming that this fight would take place at welterweight or a catch weight of around 143lbs. Mayweather is a far different prospect for Pacquaio, than was the case with Diaz, De La Hoya and Hatton and i can see Mayweather claiming back his p4p title in some style.

What do you think ?

mayweather cos he's the best P4P fighter on the planet.
plus he was bigger than Hatton so he'd be a good bit bigger than Pacman.
Maybe therein might lay Pacman's chance though....being smaller and lighter might help him get to the ultra-elusive Mayweather......it's like Naseem Hamed once said, you can't build muscles on your chin.

But for the sake of an answer I would say Mayweather, although naturally, like 95% of us, I'd like Pac to.

I think weight may play a part say if its at 143 , who is better at that weight i say pac. Also it has been rumoured that pbf has been out on the hooch since retiring and it is unsure if he can even make 147 . Anyone know or have ideas what weight this fight will be made .?

Pacquiao all the way and I'll be putting a lot of money on it.

DLH had success with his tactics against Mayweather but just didn't have the 12 round stamina. His coach for that fight... Freddie Roach. Pac will definitely have the stamina and be far busier.

Pac is also faster than Judah who gave Mayweather trouble.

I don't think Floyd is beyond getting KOed either. He has been hurt a couple of times when caught.

Floyd has back and hand problems and has been very inactive, while Pac is still sharp as ever and at the top of his confidence.

Maybe the answer will be shown by what weight the Marquez fight is set to take place at ?

Is it 140lbs ? Last i knew, Marquez was fighting at lightweight :box:

Is that for the marquez fight ? or Is that what you think it should be at?
Say if the pac fight is at 143 do you guys think manny will have the upper hand as far as weight goes? I do He seems strong under 147 .
One thing that came to mind was the Duran- Leonard 2nd fight duran was on the booze before and we know what happened there

I think a good barometer, will be the Marquez fight. If Mayweather beats Marquez in style, then Pacquaio should present no problems. As for Freddie Roach, the guy is a good coach, but someone, maybe Manny Steward, once said that there was no such thing as good trainers, only a trainer, training a good fighter. People are now starting to think that if Roach is in their corner, that the result is an absolute certainty, but i remember when Roach was training Tyson and saying stuff before a fight that all came to a big fat zero. So, whilst i applaud Roach as a trainer who knows his stuff, it's still all down to who he is training, just as was the case with Enzo and Joe Calzaghe. The difference for Roach this time, is that he wont be dealing with a fighter who is as predictable as the British weather (Hatton), this time it's floyd Mayweather Jr :box:

Mayweather and a bit of a no brainer. Pacquaio has problems with boxer types and when an opponent fights defensive and hes never been near anything like FMJ yet either. He lost the majority of the rounds against JMM who doesn't do anything better than FMJ and is smaller.

I wasn't saying he'd win just cause Roach was in his corner. I was saying that Roach sent DLH out there with the right gameplan, but he just couldn't match Mayweather for 12 rounds. I think Roach knows what you need in order to beat Mayweather and with Pacquiao he has a fighter with better tools to do it and who listens to him 100%.

With regards to Pacquaio losing the majority of rounds to Marquez, are you refering to the first fight ?

Well both in total, but he did a bit better in the second, think I had that 7-5 for JMM though

Agree totally. Even if you think the scores were correct in both fights (I don't personally, I scored them both for JMM), less the points for the knockdowns & the Mexican won more rounds.

Back on topic: Mayweather.

It was a general comment about Roach and not soley directed at your comment :D

I think it's true that Pacquiao will benefit from Roach's tactics, but i think that Mayweather has too much for him and Pacqauio is still a fighter who loves to come forward and have a tear up, even though he has been refined by Roach and given one or two extra weapons, like the improved right hand. Mayweather will pick him off all night, lead from behind the jab, stay on the outside and when Pacquaio does come to exchange punches and work on the inside, Mayweather has the defensive capabilties to neutralise Pacquaio. Mayweather is a very smart fighter and i feel that he will prevail, take away Pacquaio's attributes and win comfortably

I think pacman will beat mayweather...he is quick, got the power and has been in action on the regs.
Mayweather is great but there's the hand issue and how much ring rust is there? Marquez will give him a good fight he is no mug.
Roach knows his shit, mayweather took 11 rounds to do ricky....pacman did took him apart in 5 mins .59seconds.
Anyway....what a fight it could be.

I think in all honesty, Mayweather could have finished Hatton a lot earlier, but he was prepared to sit back and wait for the opening. As iv'e said in a previous post, yes Roach does know his shit, but this time he is'nt training his fighter to face an opponent as predictable as Hatton. Mayweather represents a far greater challenge to Pacquaio than any of his three previous fights, whether Mayweather has been out of the ring for 18 months or not. Unlike Hatton, Mayweather has'nt been in many wars and will be freash at 32 years of age and it's not like he fought three times a year, in recent times is it ? Also, Hatton was caught cold quite early on in the fight and never recovered from the first knockdown, plus he showed tactical naivety, which wont be the case with Mayweather.

I think Pac is ALWAYS improving. The drastic improvement he's had in a few short years is just frightening. You could see on one of the first round knockdowns against Hatton, he landed on Hatton AND slipped a punch at the same time.

He is also very precise with his punches now and spots the openings. If Mayweather gives him a slither of an opening, he'll nail it.

Probably the most improved fighter of all time cause he has improved himself all the way to elite level... Makes you wonder how many other under achievers out there could have improved to that level with just a little bit of guidance.

We need to see what Mayweather's like against JMM first but gut instinct tells me he outpoints Manny. Maybe even stops him late. Though I would be rooting for him to knock PBF out like nobody's business. :TU:

I'd say Mayweather at his best would outpoint Manny but he really would have to be on his best form because Manny has a great engine and fights with the sort of ferocity that I can't recall Mayweather ever facing before. I'd make Floyd the favourite based on past form but Manny isn't as big an underdog as you might think.
