I can't see who the other fella is, but seeing as how that's the pose Mills was in when he was counted out vs. Joey Maxim, I'll guess the fella is him.

Snake playing the violin? (cryptic clue!)
I didn't need the clue.witherspoon wrote:Yes, Harold Johnson. You got the easy part right.
Did you make any sense of the clue, though?
Help. I been trying to get this one all day. All i have found out is that the mid-parting was all the rage in the early 1900's.raylawpc wrote:
Come on then Terrible Tim, let's hear your logic.witherspoon wrote:Yeah but i went to the trouble of thinking, to come up with that!
What jurisdiction are you talking about, mate?jaclem2 wrote:..wanted to get on this one right away, but got side-tracked.....
re: arguello and the koby. A kayo means that a fighter cannot or will not continue. if he is knocked cold for the count of ten....if the referee stops the fight because he feels the loser has taken toomuch punishment....if the fighter steps out of the ring to say hello to his mother...if he has a coughing fit and can't come out of his corner he has been kayoed...knocked out...knocked out of time which was the original meaning.
for example..delahoy was kayoed twice. down for the count from that body punch by hopkins. fully concious but he couldn't get up. An earlier example...jim corbett...breath knocked out of him and he couldn't get up ..kayoby fitzsimmons....delahoya..last fight. didn't come out of his corner. kayo. nothing technical about it.
maybe i should have started a separate thread on this, because there may be some disagreements. well, let's see if anything happens...

Well, ermmmm, i think i meant to invoke an image of a snake playing second fiddle, snakes natural rival being mongoose - Johnson, as gifted and capable as he was, is usually seen as being under Moore's shadow.Collins2000 wrote:

I am hopeless with those cryptic crosswords and even with the answer I can see no link...
