allegedly trying to Wreck Breidis Prescott's Career?

Edwin Valero-Bredis Prescott Fight In Doubt

According to two sources - Fightnews.com and Boxing News magazine - the fight has a depressingly good chance of not happening, either on the originally planned July 25th date or at any other time. Firstly, a few days ago, it was reported in the British magazine that the fight was in jeopardy because U.K promoter allegedly, who has options on Colombia's Prescott, had not been approached by or dealt with by Bob Arum or Top Rank and, quote, "unless they deal with us it's not happening."

It's not yet clear whether or not Valero will actually still be fighting on July 25th, or against whom. As for Prescott, it appears he has legal obligations to allegedly that have to be dealt with before he can fight again (according to Warren in Boxing News, Prescott's last fight, a DQ win over Humberto Toledo, "slipped under the radar and the lawyers are now working on it.")

This is indeed a shame. Once again, boxing politics appear to have robbed us of a potentially explosive and thrilling fight. Valero seems to be in a better position than does the man who has thus far failed to build on the sensational one-round win he scored over Amir Khan last September. Valero, due to his bigger name and his world title, will be surely be able to land big fights down the road. But will Prescott?

In any case, the lightweight clash that would have seen two fighters with a combined 43 KO's meeting in ring centre seems to be one we fans can now cross off the calendar. Damn!
I'm angry about this

If Warren has options on him than why the hell hasn't he got Prescott a Fight since Sep 08?

Its funny that Warren said Prescott's fight against Toledo 'slipped under the Radar', whats Prescott supposed to do? just sit on his ass and starve! Prescott comes from a Dirt Poor Family in Columbia and has to support his mother and brothers and sisters by fighting but isnt being allowed to!

Doesnt he just! Its a shame for him and for Boxing.

He brutally brushes Amir Khan aside without even raising a bead of sweat. Subsequently, Khan gets and beats Barrera, and then gets a title shot at Kotelnik.

What is Prescott's contractual position?

It's a disgrace, but Warren shouldn't be getting the cop for this. Options on a fighter are standard practice, and it's not just Warren who exploits them.

They are, however, a disgrace, nothing less than a restraint of trade and fair competition. Options should be looked at closely by the monopolies and mergers commission and under European labour law and promptly made illegal, whereby boxing would become a far fairer and more interesting place.

I feel for Prescott. After that win over Khan he should be allowed to flourish.

DG,
It is for now !
It is no coincidence that "options" are regularly inserted into fight Contracts i.e. across the whole spectrum of Promotion - but how many times do you hear of problems flowing from such conditions ?
Not that often.
Maybe you could conduct a survey for us DG.
We could then maybe come up with a new catchphrase, like "8 out of 10 cats prefer ......"

But it's Warren who is letting Prescott rot. He says the Toledo fight slipped under the radar which shows us how much attention he has been paying Prescott. It's totally wrong that he should be able to prevent someone boxing and earning whilst having zero plans for them himself.

In my opinion he is acting like a c*nt. Just because there are other c*nts around, doesn't make him any less of one

The options on Prescott are no worse than the options on David Haye should he knock Klitschko out..I mean they will be telling him who he's fighting in his next 3 fights..Let's not forget that the same thing has just happenend to Tony Quigley after winning the British Title!!

Options are something EVERY promoter with a brain uses...

But Warren isn't using his options Bomber, he is stopping him working and letting him rot.

If Frank pulls out a fight for Prescott that is comparable to the Valero fight in the next few months then I take this back, but the main reason i'm sure for the options in the first place would have been to get Khan a rematch should he lose. Obviously the circumstances of the loss meant this was never going to happen so why should Prescott be banned from earning a living because he won a fight?

Obviously if Haye wins the options are there for a older brother revenge, not to let him rot. Difference is the Klitschko's can make money out of Haye and Warren can't make money out of Prescott.

When interviewed Valero seemed to be the 1 pulling out, alledegedly after watching a Prescott tape he said 'this isn't the usual Columbian taxi driver I'm used to mate, don't fancy him 1 bit, pull out and blame it on his red faced brit promoter geezer'

those are the worst options ever, with haye and the klitschkos!

with khan going up to light welter i can see why warren could make use of a lightweight of prescott's power and talent, now.

however, won't it be embarassign for Khan if Prescott starts fighting over here?

What are the exact options with Haye + Klitschko?
Is it?
If Haye beats Wlad they have to rematch, then if he beats him again he has to fight Vitali???

Well it really does show how "proffesional" Warren is.... How in the hell did Prescott vs Toledo slip under the radar. I'm sure most of us knew about it and it was discussed on here and, most of us, are simply just fans and not have a vested interest in one of the fighters.

Can't he just let him go... he's not going to make a penny on Prescott over here, except in a Khan rematch - which I am sure Khan will not need if he has the WBA belt.

I don't believe it did fallunder the radar, FW just didn't care because it was a small money fight. However, i'd imagine there is a bit more on the table for Valero/Prescott, so FW probably wants his cut.
