Would Audley Have beaten Tyson?
Would Audley Have beaten Tyson?
For a start, he wouldn't have taken the fight even if Shelly Finkel had offered a free set of Pyrex dishes as a sweetener, but say they HAD met, could A-Force have pulled off a similar result?

Audley has potential, I think he looked good against Hersisa, but has looked sluggish and too cautious at times. Especially in his last two fights. If they fought on Friday Audley would've lost. But if he actually fights Skelton then steps up, and he shows some improvement and Tyson continues downward possibly. But definately not at the moment.
Audley SHOULD beat what is left of Tyson but wouldn't. His last two fights IMO have shown he doesn't like being hit so those shots Tyson fired in the first round would have taken him out or put him in negative mood for the rest of the fight.
Audley seems to be going backwards right now. The Hersisia fight was good but against Francis and Bonin he was too ponderous.
More than ever he needs to step up. Williams and Skelton are both over shadowing him and with the next Olympics days away there will be new fighters coming through.
Don't want to be too negative as I do like Audley but right now he's letting himself down.

I was thinking the same thing the other day.
In my opinion he would have, basically by mimicking a lesser quality copy of Lennox's plan against Tyson. I reckon anybody capable of hanging on for dear life and still having something left after 2 rounds should beat Tyson in this day and age. That probably now applies to the top 25 Heavyweights in the world.
That, coupled with Audley's size for leaning down on Tyson and a decent long range jab to discourage him would see Harrison to a mid rounds stoppage, probably taking less shots than WIlliams did. I reckon Audley must be kicking himself he didn't get to Tyson first.
Let's hope we can get the winner of Skelton-Harrison in against Williams to decide the true British Number 1. My bet is Harrison will be the last man standing if it does come about.

No.
Tyson KO1 Audley.
Looking at it again last night, Tyson was sensational in that first round. In the first 3 minutes he looked the the best in the world.
All credit to DW, he showed a huge heart and good chin. He was good tactically as well.
Tyson did hurt his knee in round 1. Whether it had a bearing on the outcome. Only Tyson really knows the answer to that.

Yes despite all the talk of Tyson being shot, which he is, he was sensational in the first round, looked like the old Tyson, although not as quick, he was still pretty awesome. Danny did very well to make it out of the first round, he was under heavy fire.
Mentally though, Tyson is shot, he can only maintain that intensity for a brief period, and then panics if his opponent starts firing back.

Do you think it is more mental than physical with Tyson?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes despite all the talk of Tyson being shot, which he is, he was sensational in the first round, looked like the old Tyson, although not as quick, he was still pretty awesome. I think its both, I dont actually think he hasnt trained I just think that years of abuse, incarceration, fast living and stress have taken their toll on Mike.
Contrary to some reports he is not superman. Its bound to take a toll all those years of medication and drug taking etc, he just cant cut it at the top level anymore after 3 rounds. I think personally that is what his body's capacity is now, he wont be able to go any further than that, all the heavies now know this and realise if they can survive the early onslaught its theirs for the taking.
In short theres not much to fear after the first 2-3 rounds.

Yes I do. I don't think he gets gassed as such, it's just he loses focus, and gets anxious when his opponent is still there after 3 rounds, or more to the point if they are there and firing back.
Even as an amateur, Tyson always had problems when he was firing away and they stood up to it. They had to pull him out of sparring sessions sometimes for that very reason.

Come on now. Johnny Tapia is a fornicating crackhead, and he can still manage 12 round fights, Tyson hasn't abused himself anywhere near Tapia's level, he's just a weedhead by all accounts. If Tapia can manage it, so can Tyson. I think fear and anxiety are what knacker Tyson out, more than being physically shot.
fair point but not everyone is the same James, some people have a better resistance and recovery to certain substances and where did you get Tyosn is only a weedhead from?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Come on now. My impression is he has tried more or less anything going and on numerous occasions.
Not only this but smaller men would find it easier if you think about it than 16 stone plus men to go the 12.
Also I m not sure what prescribed medication he is but in many vcases thats just as bad for your metabolism long term as the harder illicit substances.
Downers (barbs and the like) for instance are particularly bad for your overall well being long term.
Add to this the incarceratin and long periods of inactivity and yes I do think he doesnt have it in him to go longer than 3-4 rounds.

an interesting question. one thing audley has shown so far is an ability to recover well. he has got hurt but it never affects him for long. i think audley would have been rocked by that uppercut but would have had the heart to stay in like danny did. after that, it's tough to speculate what would have happened. Tyson was easy to hit in the fourth, but audley wouldn't have strung together such an accurate or powerful combination.
audley's pondering might have allowed tyson to land more in that first round which would've spelt the end early for audley.

Incidentally, talking of drug abuse, that no good slag, Patrick Collins of THe Mail on Sunday called Tyson a Coke Head in last Sundays paper.
Surely thats defamatory?

I don't think Audley would have had the experience to handle that early onslaugh, Danny really got hit with everything but the kitchen sink.Riddick Blowe wrote:an interesting question. one thing audley has shown so far is an ability to recover well. he has got hurt but it never affects him for long. i think audley would have been rocked by that uppercut but would have had the heart to stay in like danny did. after that, it's tough to speculate what would have happened. True, he looked like he could have got up after that barrage from Williams he watched the ref count him out.
On the other hand he's never been one to take a knee or hold on when in trouble, if he had taken a knee after Williams landed a couple of shots when he first hurt him he could have bought more time.

Yeah, his survival instincts have never been the greatest have they? In all four of his defeats he has been bludgeoned all over the place takings lots of unanswered shots. He takes a shot very very well, but the problem is, when Tyson get's hurt, he generally tries to fight his way out of trouble, rather than grabbing on.
