It beggars belief that no-one has in his entourage has dropped him a hint about how odious he appears when he slips into the 'Ricky Hatton' tourettes. No good Hatton preparing in a sweat pit with John Breen, running up hills where camera's cant get with Enzo Calzaghe.
You need some colour, something quotable, someone to help convince people change is possible, to sell the dream, sell the fantasy. DLH cant do that. So you need lead parts being handed out to good actors.
I'm sure Kenny Branagh could have done The DaVinci Code better than Hanks, but Hanks puts bums on seats, he's guaranteed box office.
Its abvout numbers, promos - Mayweather is wrong for Ricky on every aspect you look at. Time-Zone, Style, History, Personality - everything.
But he's had good box-office lately, so he gets the job. Lee Beard is clearly who Hatton has gravitated to rightly or wrongly but Mayweather helped hype the fight.
The first was that DLH and Hatton seem pretty chummy, and if DLH was called, he would have said Mayweather straight away, because, for some reason, the Golden Boy is gushing when it comes to Mayweather’s abilities.
Second, Hatton's got a strange logic: “If I beat Pacquiao, I'm pound for pound champion,” was not, I think, only a case of promoting the fight. There was a hint of belief in there, and one or two other things that I heard in the build up to this (which I can’t recall this instance) were the logic I'd expect from a dullard down the pub who repeats whatever he reads in the Sun rather than an articulate young man. Given that, I wonder whether something in Hatton's brain clicked: I need a big name American, and since Floyd sr created Floyd jr, who beat me, therefore I should get Floyd in the corner. Silly, but I have a horrible feeling that had something to do with it.
Third, he loves Lee Beard, and, given that Beard learned everything he knows (which I'm not sure is worth a pitcher of warm spit) from Mayweather, and got into boxing from working with Mayweather, that he recommended him, too. If Hatton wanted to keep Beard, he might have figured that Mayweather was the best mesh.
I might be wrong with all three, but I’m just throwing them out.
Anyway, why on earth anyone thinks that a world class fighter going into hard, hard, elite level fights would pick a novice trainer who has about as much experience of boxing as the average martial arts trainer or gym instructor with a healthy interest in watching the big fights, is beyond me.
The difference between Roach -- whose tactical, strategic, technical and training knowledge literally oozed through the TV/computer screen every time I watched him -- and the Hatton camp was palpable. Hatton had enough disadvantages against a perfect fighting machine without being further stymied by being led by Captain Mainwaring in a battle against a man led by Georgiy Zhukov.
Blinking flip, Carbo!

I really do not believe Lee Beard should be taking stick here!!
He is an average guy who has been thrust into the limelight and has a chance to make some money for himself - good luck to him I say!!!
Beard is taking sh*t here and other places that should be specially reseved for certain other personalities of Team Hatton - Lee is okay - have any of you lot bothered to speak to him?

there's a recession on as we all know about.25'000 brits go to support him,& he gets wiped out shockingly easy.
there was issues of mw snr running late to training they even filmed him stop of at a drive threw!!
the sparring wasnt filmed of hatton as they wouldnt allow it as he was taking a beating reported from the 24/7 crew to roach who they know well over previous shows.
he was running the day b4 etc.which is poor.couldnt look @ mw when he got back to the corner as he was late again so beard got him ready.
nobody expects an apology, but would like to know the stories behind the cracks rather then hatton flog a book or somthing.

Mayweather Snr.'s an asshole and recovering junkie who struggles to string a sentence together and dresses like a pimp. Hatton was stupid for going with him. He should have stayed with Billy Graham. I seriously doubt he would have been clocked so quickly under the Preacher's guidance though I still would have no doubt that Manny would have won.hurlock wrote:there's a recession on as we all know about.25'000 brits go to support him,& he gets wiped out shockingly easy.

Re: Hatton speaks.....
I have always been suspicious of Mayweather as a trainer as all of his talk is about himself. Contrast with Roach, who commented he looks good because of what Manny does. Different class.
Hatton should retire I think. He can't top what he's already achieved and he owes nothing - he's given his all and fought the best (Witter nuthuggers please ignore....). Pacquiao confirmed what the Lazcano fight suggested - his punch resistance has gone. Unfortunately I think it will be too hard for his pride to go out following Saturday so I think he will fight again.

Yeah I think his punch resistance may have gone now, at top level, as a KO like that, in the twilight of your career, is going to leave a major fault line, in his chin and his confidence.
No worries, he'll still be a folk hero in this country, once the shock wears off, having gone out on his shield like that. He kept getting up, didn't he.
I think Graham would have helped some, as you have to credit the way Billy drilled into him NOT to get hit by the Tszyu right hand - he was barely clocked cleanly that night, so aware was he that he had to steer clear of the right hand all night, at all costs.
Against PacMan, chin in the air, he didn't give a toss if he was hit ( untill he really was HIT ) so confident was he that'd he'd walk through the smaller man's punches like he was facing a peashooter.

Who actually see the interview on Sky Sports News last night? Ricky was nearly in tears & if he was not wearing sunglasses, I think we may have seen a tear or two! I think he's really devastated, more-so than he was when he lost to Mayweather!
Its the manner of the defeat which is probably the hardest pill for Ricky to swallow! Going by the way he spoke yesterday, I'm not too confident he will be able to get over this mentally enough to enable him to box on & box well!
He was talking about promoting & how he wants to pursue that, so going by this sort of talk, maybe he will call it a day! I think Ricky will take his time over making a decision.
Has Billy Graham said anything since the defeat? He tipped Hatton to win in about eight rounds!

Utter shite? I od not say Hatton was utter shite.
Every word I posted is the truth.
He was destroyed by the ONLY 2 FIGHTERS he faced that were elite/prime.
Did he even hit PBF?
Freddie Norwood and Chris John were better ( and were in their prime unlike KT) than all the fighter Hatton faced bar Pacman and PBF.
Castillo and Corralles were deadly fighters when they faced PBF, does Hatton hae anything on his record to match them?
NO!
JMM - PBF and PACMAN all had fights against world class fighters and held their own and won!
JMM and PACMAN were never 40-0 against mediocre fighters.
Hatton = KT
Every other victory was a dead cert.
Hatton had a very good career, but he was hurt by being over protected and not fighting good hungry fighters on the way up.
Its no coincidence that he became Pacmans quickest win in over 7 years, and the only fighter Pacman has stretched for over 3 minutes.
Levels, my friend, levels.
Pacman A
Hatton B-

Anyway, Mayweather was clearly better than Hatton, in the ring and in terms of record and legacy. But Mayweather is probably, along with the Pac-Man the best fighter of his generation, and one of the best ever, so of course Hatton is below that.
But saying Corrales was in peak condition shows how much you know about boxing.

DG. wrote:Ricky Hatton has told Sky Sports that he intends to become the "greatest promoter in the world", even though he is still not sure if he will box again.
The Hitman saw his hopes of becoming the best pound-for-pound fighter disappear inside six minutes against Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas at the weekend.
A stunning stoppage loss saw the British boxer surrender his IBO light-welterweight title - and was quickly followed by talk of his retirement.
Still devastated at the outcome, Hatton admitted in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News that he was yet to decide over whether to hang up his gloves or not.
Future plans
However, the Mancunian already has plans for a future outside the ring, insisting he will not "drift off into the distance" and leave the sport entirely.
"I really don't know at the minute because I never thought that (the second-round knockout) was going to happen," he said after being asked about his future in the ring.
"People are still going to see plenty of me. I'm going into promoting now and I've got a future with the youngsters. They are going to be fulfilling my dreams from here on in.
"I've worked with so many promoters and I believe I can do a great job at it.
I believe I've been a great world champion, the best in the world.
![]()
I believe I can be the greatest promoter in the world, that's the next avenue down which I'm going to go.
"But as far as physically boxing myself, I don't know what I'm going to do at the minute.
"I'm not going to drift off into the distance - boxing is my game. Sky Sports have been with me from absolutely day one. Whatever decision I make on my future Sky will be the first to know."
The 30-year-old believes the bout at the MGM Grand could have had a different outcome if he hadn't suffered such a horrendous start.
Pacquiao put him down twice in the opening round before finishing the fight just before the bell to end the second with a chilling left hook.
"If we'd have gone a few rounds it could have been different, but he caught me with practically the first punch he threw to be honest," Hatton insisted.
"I'd rather have been knocked out in two rounds than have somebody that has out-classed me for the full duration.
"I've lost twice and I've lost to the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, it's not a bad way of looking at it, but I'm devastated.
"Maybe it could have been different, but that's boxing."
Support
Hatton - who had previously only suffered defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jnr - was quick to pay tribute to his army of supporters.
"I'm not going to say I'm the greatest British world champion we've ever had but one thing that isn't up for discussion is that there's never been a world champion from Great Britain that has had a fan base like Ricky Hatton," he added.
"In a credit crunch 30,000 people have come here this weekend. I think the most anyone else has ever had is 10,000. Nobody has ever had support like that.
"Whatever I decide to do, the following that I've had throughout my career has blown every other champion out of the water. For that I will be forever grateful."
