1984 US Olympic Team

Post by Boxingmad »

Who was the most talented of them?

Who was the most overrated?

Holyfield is still fighting, as is Meldrick Taylor, I believe. Whitaker has drug problems. What of the others?

Who was the biggest underachiever?

Pernell Whitaker was the most talented. Most overrated were Steve McCrory and Mark Breland.
Of the gold medallists, Steve McCrory is dead, Jerry Page and Mark Breland are trainers, Henry Tillman is in jail and Meldrick taylor is walking on his heels. Not sure about Paul Gonzalez, Frank Tate and Tyrell Biggs.
Virgil Hill, who won a silver, is still about as a fighter.
The only non-medallist on the team was Robert Shannon.

pernell more talented then holyfield??? tough question...i really like them both, hard choice, but pernell even beat (or should have) gotten the decision over oscar, and pernell was way out of his prime,
i dont even need to mention what holyfield did,
sad story about taylor though, the guy cant even talk right anymore,
he sounds like tommy hearns now

Tommy Hearns sounds like a english professor compared to Taylor. Meldrick should have retired after that fight. It saddens me horribly to see him now.
