And lets face it even if he had beaten them then we would be able to factor in something else to denigrate those wins like Manny used to be a flyweight and Floyd was past it. In fact when you think about it they were both shite aswell. I mean Manny was held to a draw and many thought he lost to JMM ( a guy who lost to Freddie Norwood and Chris John for crying out loud) so he was obviously all hot air. And Floyd. I mean who did he actually ever beat? Hatton, Gatti, Corley, Mitchell, N'Dou, that Argentinian at welter, and old ODLH and Hernandez and Corrales, Castillo ( won robbery in the first) and Manfredy who were hardly all time greats. Now I think of it pretty much every fighter operating today and indeed in the last 100 years can have all sorts of stats and facts used and twisted in order to belittle what ever they allegedly achieved. Its all smoke and mirrors. Ever fighter ever has sucked period. Thank you!

Why do people look into what Hatton says too much? I get annoyed as anyone about his P4P claims... but more because he doesn't understand the concept of it, than because he actually says it all the time.

The way I look at it - Hatton is a great lad, his fans and support mean the world to him, and he's bought into a lot of the hype he's generated for himself. He's always wanted to fight the best, and done whatever he can to make those fights happen. Unfortunately, he's fallen short when it really mattered - but that's hardly anything to be ashamed of - losing to the 2 best P4P fighters at the time of the fight.

Regarding what he says, and his statements etc. I think to be honest it's down to the fact he's not actually that sharp, and a little naive. He repeats a lot of what he says, he's got a well practiced set of statements etc that he just rolls out in interviews... saying all the cliched things he thinks he's supposed to say. He probably doesn't even realise the repetetiveness of it all... he's just genuinly not that quick, and he's done incredibly well handling the media in that case.

Anyway... yes, he's a bit repetetive, seems infatuated with yet doesn't quite grasp certain concepts (p4p being the main one)... but all in all, he's a great fighter. Always gone after the best fights, and only fallen at the highest level. Has made himself and his family a fortune... and other than pissing off a few of us anoraks, has more fans and support in this country than any recent boxer.

Lee Beard is part of Hatton's coaching team, I think that Hatton you are refering to (well the one member of team Hatton you haven't mentioned is "okay") is his manager. His manager, whilst not be experienced at the role or considered a "boxing man" ... has done a remarkable job since he has taken over the duties.

His role is to get Ricky the fights.... and he's delivered, well I say he's delivered.... depends on your perspective of "delivered"... personally if I was managing my son, I'd get a career DVD's of Joe Calzaghe and say - "there you go, my boy I'll make you a millionaire and keep your good looks intact, I'll even sell a make a PPV out of a fight in which you have written in an auto biography as a pointless fight".

However, Hatton wanted the big ones the P4P'ers.... and he got them.

Who needs to take the blame is not the match maker or manager, but the trainers who have though out the years allowed the years of body abuse, and those who thought that those telegraphed left hooks haye makers would land against Pacquiao. I've never seen Hatton as wild and as reckless as he was Pacquiao. His head movement has gone since the Tszyu fight, but his punch form was terrible at the weekend.

Whether you like Hatton Snr or not, its not his role to train Hatton... from what I have seen he did everything right - the money was good, the time to prepare was good etc, just tactically and technically he was awful... and if you want to "blame" anyone - it needs to be the principle trainers.

What did shock me this morning is that within hours of my boxing column for the DP going online I had 15-20 e-mails from Filipinos with questions for Ricky and lauding Manny.

Very respectful, knowledgeable messages.....was a breath of fresh air.

Here is one of them:

I am a Filipino and great fan of boxing and my being a fanatic of this sport knows no racial boundaries. To be honest, many Filipinos like your ferocity and aggressiveness inside the ring and the humility you display outside the ring. Unfortunately, when two great boxers are pitted against each other, the likelihood of both being the victor at the end of the fight is simply very remote especially when both boxers carries tons and tons of powerful loads in their hands like what you and Manny brought inside the ring last May 2, 2009. With regards to your first paragrapgh - in your quest to be "correct" - unfortunately you are wrong mate - firstly I have not been referrring to what you call his manager - my comments have been directed at a completely seperate member of the team.

Secondly - you state whoever you perceive as his manager as doing a remarkable job - sorry complete and utter b*llocks!!! - the man was in the right place at the right time - and it wasn't his manager who made those fights!!!

The Castillo fight was made by Fight Academy & Top Rank - and there were already strong indications that the Floyd Mayweather fight was going to be made or there certainly had been conversations between relevant parties concerning the possibilities of a fight - then Golden Boy squeezed in and I acknowledge it is they who have promoted Ricky Hatton in an excellent manner!!!

With regards Ricky Hatton's credibility after the PBF fight - its a no brainer - It was Golden Boy and Bob Arum at Top Rank who made the Pacman fight - they made that fight due to Hatton's popularity knowing that it would sell big time - Oscar has even come out after that defeat and implied Ricky should carry on why do you think that is - money!!! - and as such without much help from your words his "remarkable" manager there will still be plenty of people wanting to fight Ricky Hatton.
