Roy Jones Jr Vs Anderson Silva, MMA rules?

According to fiveouncesofpain.com , professional boxer Roy Jones Jr. has offered to fight current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva under MMA rules, and do so inside of a UFC Octagon.

Dana White turned this proposal down, saying the following…

"You won't see a Silva versus Jones fight while Silva is under contract with me. I don't want to say anything bad about Roy Jones, I like Roy Jones and was a fan of his, but he mattered like fifteen years ago. He's not anywhere near the best boxer in the world. He must've spent all his money.

I could do it, make it huge, make money. But I could have done a fight like this when we were bleeding money (in the early 2000s). The fight would make some money, but it hurts MMA in the long term. We don't do that because we love the sport. That's a Pride or K-1 matchup. It's not what we do."


I don't think Dana is so much worried about Jones being 15 years past his best, but more worried about how the UFC would look if a 15 years past his best boxer beat one of their top champions.

I know this is a who would win in a fight: Mike Tyson or Bruce Lee type thing, but who would.

Would RJJ's accuracy be able to KO this geezer in 20 secs?

Anderson Silva challenged RJJ over a year ago to a boxing match with full boxing rules, but Dana was saying the same thing back then he's under my contract so you will never see this fight.

Although Silva's last two outing haven't impressed Dana or the UFC fans in general so maybe wont be to long before Silva give's the UFC the push and naffs off to Japan and start fighting over there again for big money.

Then who knows i reckon it would be a massive fight over there. (anywhere really)

Silva would be a lot bigger than RJJ if it were mma rules Silva would win.

But boxing would have to go to RJJ but never count Silva out when he's fired up he has destructive power he easy knocks guys spark out over 14 stone.

I would love to see either MMA or a Boxing match.

Glad its not happening - its a freak fight that does little for either sport.

Anderson Silva would have a HUGE advantage under MMA rules. If they fough straight boxing, then there is only one winner there too.

A pointless exercise either way.

In a boxing match RJJ would have the choice of playing with Silva and making him look stupid or knocking him out when he fancied it.

In MMA, Anderson Silva could finish RJJ in a few seconds or, if he has a sadistic side, could choose from a variety of ways to destroy him slowly. With his Muay Thai skills - Anderson could stand off and leg kick him until his legs collapse or clinch up and knee him till he didn't have an intact rib. Alternatively- he could use his skills as a jiu jitsu black belt and do whatever he wanted with him on the canvas before submitting him.

there's millions of boxers that can beat silva @ boxing,he's versed in muay thai to the highest standard & a master of bjj.
there's no boxer out there that would last 3 minutes in a cage with him.infact there's no mma fighter that can live with him.
i think he likes the challenge as it's the only form he cant compete highly @.
& to see the greatest mma fighter ever to get a whooping from a shot fighter would tarnish the ufc.fair play to dana he hasnt let any old boxing bums into the ufc to be made spectacles of.
