Tsyzu was 35 , he quit and then he retired after the fight....hence he was there to be taken.........plus styles, Zoo had ZERO footwork had already been beaton into a hoe by vince and people were basing their hero worship of Zoo on beating Mitchell & Judah & his joga exercises......Fwank knew all this then factor in the hand picked ref just like he knew Barrera was safe for Khan to feast on.............don't take much working out does it boy.

It's always nice when one's opponents can craft eloquent, cogently presented arguments, isn't it?

It's interesting the number of quality fighters Hatton has pounded into submission, isn't it? Off the top of my head, I can think of Malignaggi, Castillo, and Tszyu. But of course, nothing to do with Hatton.

Age, as Hopkins and Marquez the elder have proved, is not necessarily demonstrative of quality, and just because Hatton beat him to a pulp, doesn't mean he was past it -- especially not when looking so completely devastating just seven months and one fight earlier.

As I say, it all relies wholly on circular reasoning: Hatton is no good, therefore he couldn't beat a prime Tszyu, therefore Tszyu was past it, which means Hatton's win against Tszyu was not worth much, which helps prove Hatton is no good... and round and round it goes.

Conflicts, preparation and all the rest aside, Hatton is getting stick for losing a fight against the best fighter in the world, for the second time in a few years, that is hardly a decent stick to beat him with. When the guy defended the WBU at the MEN he was given grief, he then fights a #3 P4P guy in Tszyu (who had just destroyed Mitchell, a fighter Hatton was 'ducking') and he beats Tszyu by spotting his weakness, Kostya did not like it up him, and exploiting that weakness. Suddenly Tszyu is 108 years old, and everyone knew he would lose anyway, oh and the ref was in on 'it' an all.

Shortly afterwards the guy who has been 'picking on smaller men' takes on the huge Luis Collazo, beats him in a really tough fight, and gets slated for it. A few years later Berto struggles with Collazo and people go all coy, despite the fact Berto is a big guy, and was getting rave reviews.

Then Hatton takes on Urango, who does not just talk about knocking people out, he actually does it, Hatton is clearly suffering in the fight, and yet boxes the ears of Urango, only for people to say Urango is shit, and will never contest at world level, Juan does well, people go all coy, again. F-me, Tim Bradley threw a one-two at the body of Witter, then a looping right hand to the head, for 12-rounds, and he is suddenly Nic Locche x Sonny Liston, on crack.

Castillo was seen as a tough hombre, finally at his optimum weight, Hatton KO's him with a body shot that was classily worked, and Diego is not to carry Jeff Lacy's jockstrap.

Then you have Floyd, enough said, Hatton calls for, pursues, and gets a fight with the best fighter in the world, above Hatton's natural weight, and people say he was only in it for the money.

Lazcano was a justifiable fight, Paulie was seen as a test, of sorts, and Manny was another attempt to scale the mountain, in this attempt Hatton was lumbered with a trainer who cannot speak English and the ravages of age, yet he went in there, despite the alleged turmoil, and gave it a go.

It pretty much goes:

"This guy is happy to defend his WBU bauble at home against guys who cannot beat him."

"Hatton just battered the shell of a great fighter for the linear title."

"Hatton may have bullied the spirit from Kostya, but he will always be a bully who picks on smaller men!"

"Hatton has just defeated a big, strong, tough welterweight (southpaw also), but Collazo was crap, I knew this, I have never seen Luis fight, and won't ever watch him again, but he is crap."

"Ah well, Hatton was playing at being a welterweight, he is not going to fight Floyd Mayweather, he will just fight bums and count the money."

"Hatton has just defeated two useful guys in Urango and Castillo, but one was crap, the other was old, crap and a cheat, Hatton has no intentions of fighting Floyd."

Saturday night's incarnation of RH was not quite the man who mauled Tszyu into submission but I don't think he was a shot fighter either, whether or not that is still the case remains to be seen.

Whatever specific drama unfolded behind the scenes, I get the feeling that Hatton experienced a psycological meltdown sometime between the weigh in and the bell for the first round.
Throughout the entire buildup many of RH public statments put great emphasis on the likelyhood that he would be the bigger, stronger man in the ring thus possessing a definative advantage.
Perhaps this whole size thing also made him so overconfident that he felt that he didn't really need to listen too closely to Floyd Mayweather's tactical and practical advice. Perhaps Floyd Mayweather became conscious of this and started to lose interest. Who knows?
Certainly RH must have felt disconcerted when he saw Manny tip the scales. Hatton may have had a bigger rib cage but in nearly every other respect, Pac looked a bigger and altogether more athletic specimen than himself. A poignant hint at the sheer size (no pun intended) of the task ahead and that he may have chronically underestimated Pac just as Oscar had done several months previously.

I know how you feel about Hatton DG, we all know, but you stated elsewhere that Hatton is simply not that good. You're totally right - he's not THAT good, but THAT good is elite top 5 p-4-p standard. Unfortunately his flaws mean that he is pretty cruelly exposed against the top top fighters, but his strengths mean that only those top guys have the skills to expose him.
Hatton is a World Class fighter. Just not an elite p-4-p fighter. There's no shame in that, and for all your purist enjoyment of glimpses of Witter's style over the years, Hatton has dominated better fighters than Witter has scraped by. I'm not against Witter, just using him as an argument for you to compare him objectively with Hatton and give Hatton at least a modicum of credit.

Hatton has never been a particularly intelligent fighter. He's always had one gameplan: pressure, get in there, get rough and batter the other guy.

The relationship between FMS and RH never seemed quite right from day one, they didn't really gel. A lot comes down to personalities and I don't think Ricky really had it in him to completely revamp his whole style at this stage of his career. Some guys can move to a new trainer and adapt very quickly and get on with the job, but I got the impression Ricky didn't really feel like he should be learning anything new - despite the fact he was regularly saying "I've tightened up my defence under Floyd", fat lot of good that was when he just walked into every punch thrown at him on fight night.

On fight night I thought Ricky came in looking very dry and also extremely nervous. On the biggest night of your career you need to be focussed, but relaxed and with a corner you trust and can communicate with. Floyd just looked a bit out of place. So much, again in hindsight, seemed wrong for Ricky on the night.

But I just don't think Ricky had it mentally to ever overcome such obstacles as PBF or Manny. Yeah in the PBF fight bloody Cortez made his night more difficult than it could have been, but Ricky didn't like not being the aggressor and Floyd was slick and elusive. Then Manny... well, every time Ricky approached him a punch from a different angle smacked him bang in the face, and two early knockdowns aside, Ricky never gained the composure to adapt. It just wasn't happening.

The only one on that list that stands out as sub-par is Maussa. OK, he had a title so it was a means to an end, but his career before and since shows he was a one-hit wonder vs Harris.

Hatton took a lot of stick for Lazcano but I always thought it was a very solid comeback fight - the guy was in most top 10s, after all.

I wasn't happy with Urango at the time, but to be fair he has gone on to prove himself pretty worthy - as has Coillazo, who as Terry points out did very well against Berto too, but against him hatton was "exposed", while Berto had a "learning fight".
