102 couldn't spell Akiwande right
Re: Heavyweight game. Can you get them all
Hi gents,
109 with 1 minute to go: However I'm having the Sergei Lyakovich as I tried to smany different spellings and it wouldn't take any of them, plus "PINKON Thomas" as IBO champion was missing the L so I gave myself that one too.
109 officially, 111 in reality.
Pleased with that :-)
"T.M.K"
ps: Lee Savold and Dannel Nicholson escaped me.

89. I was super impressive from Marciano through Holmes, but where I lost it was between the fourth champ and Johnson, and then ofter proliferation. Guys like Brian Neilson and Liakovich and Brewster that, stupidly, I just didn't think of.
Tough, tough game

Thought I was leading the pack with 106 until I read this. Like you, couldn't get Lyakovich right (that's how I've always seen it spelled).T.M.K wrote:Hi gents,

Pinklon Thomas IS spelled correctly, although that may have been fixed since you played. I missed him, in any case. Couldn't for the life of me remember who beat Witherspoon, was sure it was Dokes.
Somehow I forgot Schmelling!
That only leaves Savold, Thunder and Nielsen. Somehow I remembered Nicholson!
Not at all bad, but then I am a heavyweight anorak.

No cant think but Jack Johnson was stopped in his 3rd fight who were they?bennie wrote:Can anyone name two world heavyweight champions stopped on their debut?
Re: Heavyweight game. Can you get them all
Mike Weaver was stopped on his debut by Howard Smith and Bonecrusher Smith by James Broad (Crusher had a brave manager).alexpaterson wrote:No cant think but Jack Johnson was stopped in his 3rd fight who were they?bennie wrote:Can anyone name two world heavyweight champions stopped on their debut?
They were not 'proper' world heavyweight champs, of course, but Weaver gave a peak Larry Holmes a great fight and Crusher went the full 12 with a young, smouldering Mike Tyson (it was dull, I know). In today's boxing climate there are probably even more world heavyweight champs who lost their debut.

Not at all bad, but then I am a heavyweight anorak.Well, used to be before the current crop came along...
the WBC reign is listed as Pinklon Thomas, but in the 90's era I was missing an IBO champion who the author listed as "Pinkon" with no L, therefore it would not accept me "mis"spelling it ..... if you see what I mean.

Ah, but did you know the game will accept surnames alone?T.M.K wrote:Hi there Mr Fennell, oliverfennell wrote:Thought I was leading the pack with 106 until I read this. Like you, couldn't get Lyakovich right (that's how I've always seen it spelled).T.M.K wrote:Hi gents,

How about the only former world heavyweight champion to lose to a debutant AFTER winning his title?bennie wrote:Can anyone name two world heavyweight champions stopped on their debut?

Same here. 109 with much time lost by spelling Lykhovich's name right. I somehow missed Bonecrusher Smith (as well as three IBO titlists).
Re: Heavyweight game. Can you get them all
Think that was Leon Spinks (vs the chap who used to post on here?)oliverfennell wrote:How about the only former world heavyweight champion to lose to a debutant AFTER winning his title?bennie wrote:Can anyone name two world heavyweight champions stopped on their debut?

Yep, John Carlo beat Leon Spinks for the distinction of being the only boxer to beat a former world heavyweight champion on his debut.T.M.K wrote:Think that was Leon Spinks (vs the chap who used to post on here?)oliverfennell wrote:How about the only former world heavyweight champion to lose to a debutant AFTER winning his title?bennie wrote:Can anyone name two world heavyweight champions stopped on their debut?
"T.M.K"
A feat that is somehow overshadowed in certain circles by later featuring in the only pro boxing match between two BoxRec posters (Johnny Bombs v American Clubfighter).
