Which British Boxer could gain the Hatton Fanbase?
Re: Which British Boxer who could gain the Hatton Fanbase?
I'd say very few. Most don't follow or know bugger all about boxing.

Moorsey I think could get Hattons Manc support but I think he would be down on numbers with the rest of the UK.

Ricky is a household name.
Unless your fighting on ITV prime time or summat, none of the aforementioned are going to get famous.

Amir Khan would get close - but he has to win the world title to do so.
David Haye might but again he has to beat the Klitschko's to do so.
The only other fighter who is starting out who has anything like the fan base Hatton did as a young professional boxer is Tony Jeffries - now if he is matched correctly - he is the one who could match Hatton - but then is he capable of reaching world title levels - we will see!!!
I think you could be right with Jeffries spud, especially after seeing his last fight on sky, Munroe is being marketed well with the binman thing just a shame he hasn't got a big knockout punch saying that if he were to fight Dunne and win his fan base would probably treble overnight

Munroe and jamie moore had a great welcome in Sunderland of the local tribemark thompson wrote:Spud wrote:In answer to the question in the title of the thread:

Hatton's following has been frankly phenomenal. And that isn't just because of his success and his exciting style. As allegedly once said, it's because he got out there and worked on selling and promoting himself, and had the personality to do it very well. A boxer with a stand-up comedians charisma, patter and timing, who was comfortable in front of the camera, and who also came across as 'one of the lads'. This media savvy, this saleability, coupled with his boxing ability, was a recipe for success, and i'm not sure anyone will match it any time soon.

Jeffries could build a pretty big base in time.
Another question is, do these fighters really care that much?
Hatton revelled in being a man of the people but to some it might seem like far too much hard work. Hatton worked hard to build up his base.

I don't think anyone will match Hatton anytime soon because it takes a special set of circumstances for that kind of fanbase to develop. I think we'll have plenty of popular fighters, but none who can bring 20,000+ fans to Vegas during a recession. I don't think we've ever had a fighter that popular, actually.

Noone has ever had the fanbase of Hatton before, and it will be a very long time until someone else comes along that does.
Of course we will all be dead by then
god, how depressing
I might as well do myself in tonight.

Jeffries was a good, unexpected call.
also Dunne, perhaps, if he goes on the road. After all Dublin's a massive place full of folks that like to get smashed....aren't they meant to be dead friendly over there though? would they go to fights in the same numbers.
in either case you'd be talking a fraction of what Hatton did. Never be repeated. Mark my words.
