Darren Barker vs Darren Mcdermott
Is Darren Barker the best middleweight in Britain? Will he achieve big things?

I`d put him as the best in Britain. However at middlewight that isn`t really saying so much.

Is it SKY's 'fault' that it isnt, or the promoters?Terry D wrote:Cannot wait for this fight. A really solid contest, they used to have this type of fight on Sky.

Barker to win imo McDermott didnt fight well against the journeyman he fought last but you cant judge him on that but Barker to win UD and Barker to beat Macklin as well

Fancy Barker to win this and beat Macklin, but not too easily.......should be some great fights ahead of him. Nice guy too from what I've seen, good luck to him....
Re: Darren Barker vs Darren Mcdermott
Not seen much of McDermott, but I think Darren Barker is going to take some beating at domestic level. He's a very smooth boxer, he's going to need some man strength or a very good chin to make it to the very top. I reckon he clears up the British scene
Re: Darren Barker vs Darren Mcdermott
The fight is on this weekend fellas (May 9th) or next? I am a bit mixed up here.

I think Barker is real quality and has an excellent chance of winning a world title.

Really impressed by Barker. Classy boxer with all the moves and a sensible head. The only thing lacking is power. I think he'll beat McDermott up from the mid-point on wards and score a late round stoppage. McDermott should make it pretty competitive early though and indeed I expect it to be equal before Barker takes over in around the 6th.

barker's a good fighter.
solid if unspectacular.
not sure he'll quite be good enough at the end of the day though. :(

maybe for macca but i think macklin would beat him, possibly quite brutally
i think he'd need to get Macklin's respect with his power, and I am not sure he can do that. in which case i can see Macklin walking him down and taking it to him.
anyway, the undercard????

Matthew Thirlwall v George Hillyard.......and prospects Tyson Fury, Bradley Evans and Steve Barnes.Counter-puncher wrote:maybe for macca but i think macklin would beat him, possibly quite brutally

I think Barker will get past McDermott, but this will be the first time we see him in a fight where victory is certain for him. If he wins then the Macklin fight towards the end of the year could be a classic epic.

I like DM. I was there last June in the Wolverhampton Civic Hall when that head clash ruled him out in the fight against Wayne Elcock. Big shame. I thought you lot were going to tear the place apart!!Counter-puncher wrote:oh, indeed.

Re: Darren Barker vs Darren Mcdermott
the atmosphere beforehand was as raucous as anything i've heard in 25 odd years watching sport. gutted, that night. Macca would have broken elcock down within 5 or 6 :(
