Witter v Urkal

Post by Old bones Ian »

does anyone know if this fight is going to be made?

i think Urkal has been named as the mandatory for Witters Euro title.

If i was him i'd think hard about taking this one, the German promoters have some good money behind them and could get the fight in Germany.

Urkal seems to have a good chin , lasted 12 with Tszyu and Harris, so it might go to a decision. As Robin Reid knows its hard to win those there.

Or as Beyer, Urkal and Michalzewski knows its hard to win a close fight at home. The last 1 or 2 alot of the germans (german based) fighters havelost on decision in Germany

No idea if it will be made but Urkal can obviously box. Yes, it looks as if he's got a good chin. Can't remember the circumstances but it says Harris had him down and he's no banger.

Witter certainly is. His power lately is different class. Not that you should look for horse racing style form lines but Urkal squeaked home against Battaglia and Witter crushed him.

Witter has just got a #3 rank with the WBC too - so doors COULD start opening for him. Clearly the WBC are rewarding the EBU's loyalty but even so great news for Junior.

I fancy Witter can beat Urkal I hope this fight gets made. Witter may end up fighting the top boys at 140 before Hatton at this rate. About time he got a break I say.

Urkal from what i've seen of him, has one of those hard to beat styles of boxing, long arms , good movement. Doesn't appear to have much of a punch, but if Witter keeps hanging his chin out in the air as he throws those power punches, Urkal could take advantage of it.

Mind you Urkal could also get his head taken off if Witter connects. As long as Witter keeps his boxing together and doesn't try to load up on his big punches, kind of like the way Hamed went.

Thats Brilliant news, it's nice to see Witter rewarded for his good form recently. I would like to see Witter in the ring again probably twice more this year (keep busy), then you never know what 2005 may bring for 'The Hitter'.

Come on Witter get some fights arranged, anyone know why he's been so quiet as of late ???

He left allegedly and Sky for Mick Hennessy and the BBC. Captain Mainwaring would say of him: "You stupid boy!"

"Don't tell him your name, Witter!" :D

Seriously, I don't see why Junior can't do the business without Sports Network. As has been mentioned, his rankings are coming along.

Because, at the end of the day, he can't fight.

Would Warren have Witter back, or are things really that bad between them ?????

I know Witter isn't a big ticket seller like Hatton but surely if he picked up a genuine world title Warren would be making money from promoting him surely.

Witter twice pulled out of fights with Kelson Pinto for the WBO interim title, which had a lot to do with Pinto doing his much-publicised no-show against Ricky Hatton subsequently.
Warren would never take the Bradford spoiler back.

Do you really think that? I think he's one of the best british fighters p4p at the moment.

He's another Johnny Nelson. When someone really pressurises him, he'll 'fight' as he did against Zab Judah.

Harsh. Very harsh. Nobody who can't fight becomes British, European and Commonwealth champion. So he had a bad night at the office against Judah. He learned. I hope he gets to the top.

If he left Hennessy, would you like him a bit more? 8)

He was never with Hennessy anyway, just fought on his shows as a free agent. He's stupid, but he's not that stupid.
As for the Judah fight: the lingering stink of his performance cost him the Hatton showdown we all wanted. No matter how hard he tried, Warren could never convince American-TV he was a fit opponent for Hatton (that's saying something, given some of the stiffs they have screened Hatton against).
Warren did manage to persuade Showtime to screen him against Jurgen Haeck and Witter ran around and looked awful a second time, and was even wobbled.
He even got a third chance against Kelson Pinto but pulled out a week before the fight.
People think Witter has had a raw deal. Wrong. He's brought it all on himself.

I agree on the Pinto stuff. I've heard the implicit suggestion he's pulled from these fights too.

However, I think your review of the Haeck fight was harsh - he tried TOO hard admittedly but he still sparked the guy in four rounds and as for wobbled, come on, the guy lands one shot and suddenly he's wobbled.

It's one thing to blow out fighters you consider inferior, but another alltogether to beat a fighter you know is on a par and coming for you.

I really want to see Witter in a genuine test. I have a feeling he may just do a number of Urkal, and if he does, he will become the first man ever to do so....

I'm told he's a decent enough guy - he's just not a very sociable person and is a totally different type of person to your typical heart on the sleeve boxer type.

He's different - doesn't make him bad.

Oh dear dear Mr Bennie and Mr McDonald not big Witter fans I see

On the few times I come on this board I would say that both of you represent (to most of the board members), people who actually know a little bit more about boxing than the rest of us.But I am begining to wonder, you are both starting to talk more nonsense than sense.

I would suggest you make your own opinions, instead of opinions on other peoples opinions. I think Bennie that by posting Witter cant fight you have just made a fool of yourself, when its obvious to most of us on this site he can.In the Olympic games of who is making a big TWAT of themselves you two are bronze and silver to Mr Warrens Gold.

I don't like Witter or Nelson as fighters. Never made it a secret. Anyone who enjoys watching them fight is the twat in my opinion.
